The G90’s pre-crash front seatbelts will tighten automatically in the event the vehicle detects an impending crash, improving protection against injury significantly. The CT5 doesn’t offer pre-crash pretensioners.

The G90 has standard Anti-Whiplash Front Head Restraints, which use a specially designed headrest to protect the driver and front passenger from whiplash. During a rear-end collision, the Anti-Whiplash Front Head Restraints system moves the headrests forward to prevent neck and spine injuries. The CT5 doesn’t offer a whiplash protection system.

To help make backing out of a parking space safer, the G90 has a standard rear cross-path warning system, which uses sensors in the rear bumper to alert the driver to vehicles approaching from the side, helping the driver avoid collisions. Only the CT5 Premium Luxury/Sport has a rear cross-path warning system.

The G90’s driver alert monitor detects an inattentive driver then sounds a warning and suggests a break. According to the NHTSA, drivers who fall asleep cause about 100,000 crashes and 1500 deaths a year. The CT5 doesn’t offer a driver alert monitor.

Both the G90 and the CT5 have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver and front passenger knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras and available all wheel drive.

The Genesis G90 weighs 803 to 1246 pounds more than the Cadillac CT5. The NHTSA advises that heavier cars are much safer in collisions than their significantly lighter counterparts.

For its top level performance in IIHS driver and passenger-side small overlap frontal, moderate overlap frontal, side impact, roof strength and head restraint tests, its standard vehicle-to-vehicle front crash prevention system, its standard vehicle-to-pedestrian front crash prevention system, and its standard headlight’s “Good” rating, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety grants the G90 its highest rating: “Top Pick Plus” for 2021, a rating granted to only 73 vehicles tested by the IIHS. The CT5 has not been tested, yet.

The G90 comes with a full 5-year/60,000-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire car and includes free 24-hour roadside assistance. The CT5’s 4-year/50,000-mile basic warranty expires 1 year or 10,000 miles sooner.

Genesis’ powertrain warranty covers the G90 4 years and 30,000 miles longer than Cadillac covers the CT5. Any repair needed on the engine, transmission, axles, joints or driveshafts is fully covered for 10 years or 100,000 miles. Coverage on the CT5 ends after only 6 years or 70,000 miles.

The G90’s corrosion warranty is 1 year longer than the CT5’s (7 vs. 6 years).

Genesis pays for scheduled maintenance on the G90 for 3 years and 36,000 miles. Genesis will pay for oil changes, lubrication and any other required maintenance. Cadillac only pays for the first scheduled maintenance visit on the CT5.

The G90 3.3T’s standard 3.3 turbo V6 produces 130 more horsepower (365 vs. 235) and 118 lbs.-ft. more torque (376 vs. 258) than the CT5’s standard 2.0 turbo 4-cylinder. The G90 3.3T’s 3.3 turbo V6 produces 30 more horsepower (365 vs. 335) than the CT5’s optional 3.0 turbo V6. The G90 5.0’s standard 5.0 DOHC V8 produces 85 more horsepower (420 vs. 335) than the CT5’s optional 3.0 turbo V6.

As tested in Motor Trend the G90 3.3T 3.3 turbo V6 is faster than the Cadillac CT5 turbo 4 cyl.:

To lower fuel costs and make buying fuel easier, the Genesis G90 uses regular unleaded gasoline (premium recommended for maximum performance). The CT5 requires premium, which can cost 20 to 55 cents more per gallon.

The G90 has 4.4 gallons more fuel capacity than the CT5 (21.9 vs. 17.5 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups.

For better traction and acceleration, the G90 has larger rear tires than the CT5 (275/40R19 vs. 245/45R18). The G90’s rear tires are larger than the largest rear tires available on the CT5 (275/40R19 vs. 255/35R20).

The G90’s 275/40R19 rear tires provide better handling because they have a lower 40 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the CT5’s standard 45 series tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the G90 has standard 19-inch wheels. Smaller 18-inch wheels are standard on the CT5.

The G90 has a standard space-saver spare tire so you can replace a flat tire and drive to have the flat repaired or replaced. A spare tire isn’t available on the CT5; it requires you to depend on its optional run-flat tires, which limits mileage and speed before they are repaired. If a run-flat is damaged beyond repair by a road hazard your vehicle will have to be towed.

Because it has more passenger and cargo room, the EPA rates the G90 a Large car, while the CT5 is rated a Mid-size.

The G90 has 14.2 cubic feet more passenger volume than the CT5 (113.2 vs. 99).

The G90 has 2.1 inches more front headroom, 3.9 inches more front legroom, 2.8 inches more front hip room, 2.4 inches more front shoulder room, 1.4 inches more rear headroom, 1.3 inches more rear hip room and 2.2 inches more rear shoulder room than the CT5.

For enhanced passenger comfort on long trips the G90 5.0’s rear seats recline. The CT5’s rear seats don’t recline.

The front step up height for the G90 is 2.6 inches lower than the CT5 (14” vs. 16.6”). The G90’s rear step up height is 3.5 inches lower than the CT5’s (14.2” vs. 17.7”).

The G90 has a much larger trunk than the CT5 (15.7 vs. 11.9 cubic feet).

With its sedan body style, valet key and remote trunk release lockout, the G90 offers cargo security. The CT5’s non-lockable folding seat defeats cargo security.

To make loading and unloading groceries and cargo easier, especially for short adults, the G90 has a standard power trunk, which opens and closes automatically by pressing a button or just by waiting momentarily behind the back bumper, completely leaving your hands free. The CT5 doesn’t offer a power trunk.

Unlike the driver-only memory system in the CT5 Premium Luxury/Sport, the G90 has standard driver and passenger memory, so that when drivers switch, the memory setting adjusts the driver’s seat, steering wheel position and outside mirror angle and the front passenger seat also adjusts to the new passenger’s preset preferences.

The G90 has a standard locking fuel door with a remote release located convenient to the driver. A locking fuel door helps prevent fuel theft and vandalism, such as sugar in the tank. The CT5 doesn’t offer a locking fuel door.

The CT5 Premium Luxury/Sport’s optional cornering lamps activate a lamp on the front corner when the turn signal is activated. The G90’s standard adaptive cornering lights turn the actual headlight unit up to several degrees, depending on steering wheel angle and vehicle speed. This lights a significant distance into corners at any speed.

A power rear sunshade and rear side window sunshades are standard in the G90 to help block heat and glare for the rear passengers. The CT5 doesn’t offer a rear or rear side window sunshades.

The G90 has standard heated front seats. Heated front seats cost extra on the CT5. The G90 also has standard heated rear seats to keep those passengers extremely comfortable in the winter. Heated rear seats aren’t available in the CT5.

The G90 has standard front air conditioned seats and the G90 5.0 also has them in the rear. This keeps the passengers comfortable and takes the sting out of hot seats in summer. The CT5 doesn’t offer air-conditioned seats in the rear.

The G90 has a standard heated steering wheel to take the chill out of steering on extremely cold winter days before the car heater warms up. A heated steering wheel costs extra on the CT5.

To quickly and conveniently keep personal devices charged without cables tangling and wearing out, the Genesis G90 has a standard wireless phone charging system (Qi) in the center console. Wireless charging costs extra on the CT5.
