The G80’s optional pre-crash front seatbelts will tighten automatically in the event the vehicle detects an impending crash, improving protection against injury significantly. The XF doesn’t offer pre-crash pretensioners.

For enhanced safety, the front seat shoulder belts of the Genesis G80 are height-adjustable to accommodate a wide variety of driver and passenger heights. A better fit can prevent injuries and the increased comfort also encourages passengers to buckle up. The Jaguar XF doesn’t offer height-adjustable seat belts.

In the past twenty years hundreds of infants and young children have died after being left in vehicles, usually by accident. When turning the vehicle off, drivers of the G80 with its optional rear seat reminder are reminded to check the back seat when a sensor determines the back seat is occupied. The XF doesn’t offer a back seat reminder.

The Genesis G80 has a standard driver’s side knee airbag mounted low on the dashboard. The knee airbag helps prevent the driver from sliding under the seatbelts or the main frontal airbag; this keeps the driver better positioned during a collision for maximum protection. A knee airbag also helps keep the legs from striking the dashboard, preventing knee and leg injuries in the case of a serious frontal collision. The XF doesn’t offer knee airbags.

The G80 has a standard front seat center airbag, which deploys between the driver and front passenger, protecting them from injuries caused by striking each other in serious side impacts. The XF doesn’t offer front seat center airbags.

The G80 has standard Anti-Whiplash Front Head Restraints, which use a specially designed headrest to protect the driver and front passenger from whiplash. During a rear-end collision, the Anti-Whiplash Front Head Restraints system moves the headrests forward to prevent neck and spine injuries. The XF doesn’t offer a whiplash protection system.

Over 200 people are killed each year when backed over by motor vehicles. The G80 offers optional Parking Collision-Avoidance Assist-Reverse that uses rear sensors to monitor and automatically apply the brakes to prevent a rear collision. The XF doesn’t offer backup collision prevention brakes.

Both the G80 and the XF have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front and rear seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning, driver alert monitors, available all wheel drive and around view monitors.

For its top level performance in IIHS driver and passenger-side small overlap frontal, moderate overlap frontal, side impact, roof strength and head restraint tests, its standard vehicle-to-vehicle front crash prevention system, its standard vehicle-to-pedestrian front crash prevention system, and its standard headlight’s “Acceptable” rating, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety grants the G80 its highest rating: “Top Pick Plus” for 2021, a rating granted to only 73 vehicles tested by the IIHS. The XF has not been tested, yet.

Genesis’ powertrain warranty covers the G80 5 years and 40,000 miles longer than Jaguar covers the XF. Any repair needed on the engine, transmission, axles, joints or driveshafts is fully covered for 10 years or 100,000 miles. Coverage on the XF ends after only 5 years or 60,000 miles.

The G80’s corrosion warranty is 1 year longer than the XF’s (7 vs. 6 years).

There are over 86 percent more Genesis dealers than there are Jaguar dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the G80’s warranty.

J.D. Power and Associates rated the G80 first among upper midsize premium cars in their 2021 Initial Quality Study. The XF isn’t in the top three in its category.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2021 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Genesis vehicles are better in initial quality than Jaguar vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Genesis 7th in initial quality, above the industry average. With 17 more problems per 100 vehicles, Jaguar is ranked 19th, below the industry average.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2021 survey of the owners of three-year-old vehicles provides the long-term dependability statistics that show that Genesis vehicles are more reliable than Jaguar vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Genesis 8th in reliability, above the industry average. With 84 more problems per 100 vehicles, Jaguar is ranked 31st.

The G80’s standard 2.5 turbo 4-cylinder produces 54 more horsepower (300 vs. 246) and 42 lbs.-ft. more torque (311 vs. 269) than the XF P250’s standard 2.0 turbo 4-cylinder. The G80’s 2.5 turbo 4-cylinder produces 4 more horsepower (300 vs. 296) and 16 lbs.-ft. more torque (311 vs. 295) than the XF P300’s standard 2.0 turbo 4-cylinder. The G80’s optional 3.5 turbo V6 produces 79 more horsepower (375 vs. 296) and 96 lbs.-ft. more torque (391 vs. 295) than the XF P300’s standard 2.0 turbo 4-cylinder.

Both the G80 and the XF have a standard automatic start/stop engine feature to stop unnecessary fuel waste and pollution at stop lights and heavy traffic. All G80s have a standard disable switch for the system, so a driver can keep the engine from shutting off when the vehicle stops temporarily.

To lower fuel costs and make buying fuel easier, the Genesis G80 uses regular unleaded gasoline (premium recommended for maximum performance). The XF requires premium, which can cost 20 to 55 cents more per gallon.

The design of the Genesis G80 amounts to more than styling. The G80 has an aerodynamic coefficient of drag of .27 Cd. That is lower than the XF (.29 to .32) and many sports cars. A more efficient exterior helps keep the interior quieter and helps the G80 get better fuel mileage.

Because it has more passenger and cargo room, the EPA rates the G80 a Mid-size car, while the XF is rated a Compact.

The G80 has 8.8 cubic feet more passenger volume than the XF (103.8 vs. 95).

The G80 has 3.6 inches more front headroom, 1 inch more front legroom, 1.4 inches more front shoulder room, 1 inch more rear legroom and .7 inches more rear shoulder room than the XF.

The G80 has a much larger trunk than the XF Sedan (13.1 vs. 10.1 cubic feet).

J.D. Power and Associates surveys of service recipients show that Genesis service is better than Jaguar. J.D. Power ranks Genesis 9th in service department satisfaction (above the industry average). With a 11% lower rating, Jaguar is ranked 18th.

The G80 has a standard locking fuel door with a remote release located convenient to the driver. A locking fuel door helps prevent fuel theft and vandalism, such as sugar in the tank. The XF doesn’t offer a locking fuel door.

To shield the driver and front passenger’s vision over a larger portion of the windshield and side windows, the G80 has standard extendable sun visors. The XF doesn’t offer extendable visors.

The G80’s optional Smart Parking Assist can parallel park or back into a parking spot by itself, starting, stopping and changing direction automatically. Remote Smart Parking Assist will park and retrieve your car remotely: press a button and watch it park itself. This is ideal for tight locations. The XF S’ automatic parking system requires operating the brakes and transmission to safely park and it doesn’t offer remote control parking.

The G80 will cost the buyer less in the long run because of its superior resale value. The IntelliChoice estimates that the G80 will retain 42.77% to 44.96% of its original price after five years, while the XF only retains 34.07% to 34.15%.

The Genesis G80 outsold the Jaguar XF by over five to one during the 2021 model year.
