Compare the2022 Audi SQ8VS 2022 Land Rover Range Rover

The SQ8 has a standard Secondary Collision Brake Assist, which automatically applies the brakes in the event of a crash to help prevent secondary collisions and prevent further injuries. The Range Rover doesn’t offer a post collision braking system: in the event of a collision that triggers the airbags, more collisions are possible without the protection of airbags that may have already deployed.

A passive infrared night vision system optional on the SQ8 Prestige helps the driver to more easily detect people, animals or other objects in front of the vehicle at night. Using an infrared camera to detect heat, the system then displays the image on a monitor in the dashboard. The Range Rover doesn’t offer a night vision system.

The SQ8 has a standard blind spot warning system which uses sensors to alert the driver to objects in the vehicle’s blind spots where the side view mirrors don’t reveal them. A system to reveal vehicles in the Range Rover’s blind spot costs extra.

To help make backing out of a parking space safer, the SQ8 has a standard rear cross-path warning system, which uses sensors in the rear bumper to alert the driver to vehicles approaching from the side, helping the driver avoid collisions. Rear cross-path warning costs extra on the Range Rover.

Both the SQ8 and the Range Rover have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front and rear seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, all wheel drive, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems and rearview cameras.

For its top level performance in IIHS driver and passenger-side small overlap frontal, moderate overlap frontal, side impact, roof strength and head restraint tests, its standard vehicle-to-vehicle front crash prevention system, its standard vehicle-to-pedestrian front crash prevention system, and its available headlight’s “Acceptable” rating, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety grants the SQ8 the rating of “Top Pick” for 2021, a rating granted to only 135 vehicles tested by the IIHS. The Range Rover has not been tested, yet.

The SQ8’s corrosion warranty is 6 years longer than the Range Rover’s (12 vs. 6 years).

There are over 60 percent more Audi dealers than there are Land Rover dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the SQ8’s warranty.

Power and Associates’ 2021 survey of the owners of three-year-old vehicles provides the long-term dependability statistics that show that Audi vehicles are more reliable than Land Rover vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Audi 20th in reliability. With 117 more problems per 100 vehicles, Land Rover is ranked 33rd.

The SQ8’s 4.0 turbo V8 hybrid produces 145 more horsepower (500 vs. 355) and 203 lbs.-ft. more torque (568 vs. 365) than the Range Rover P360’s standard 3.0 turbo/supercharged 6-cylinder hybrid. The SQ8’s 4.0 turbo V8 hybrid produces 105 more horsepower (500 vs. 395) and 163 lbs.-ft. more torque (568 vs. 405) than the Range Rover P400’s standard 3.0 turbo/supercharged 6-cylinder hybrid. The SQ8’s 4.0 turbo V8 hybrid produces 107 lbs.-ft. more torque (568 vs. 461) than the Range Rover P525’s standard 5.0 supercharged V8. The SQ8’s 4.0 turbo V8 hybrid produces 52 lbs.-ft. more torque (568 vs. 516) than the Range Rover SVAutobiography’s standard 5.0 supercharged V8.

On the EPA test cycle the SQ8 gets better mileage than the Range Rover:

Both the SQ8 and the Range Rover have a standard automatic start/stop engine feature to stop unnecessary fuel waste and pollution at stop lights and heavy traffic. All SQ8s have a standard disable switch for the system, so a driver can keep the engine from shutting off when the vehicle stops temporarily. The Range Rover P360/P400 doesn’t offer a way to disable start/stop.

For better stopping power the SQ8’s front brake rotors are larger than those on the Range Rover:

For better traction, the SQ8 has larger tires than the Range Rover (285/45R21 vs. 235/65R19). The SQ8’s tires are larger than the largest tires available on the Range Rover (285/45R21 vs. 275/45R21).

The SQ8’s standard tires provide better handling because they have a lower 45 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the Range Rover’s standard 65 series tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the SQ8 has standard 21-inch wheels. Smaller 19-inch wheels are standard on the Range Rover.

The SQ8 Prestige offers an available adjustable active suspension system, which counteracts cornering forces actively, limiting body roll and improving handling and stability. Land Rover doesn’t offer an active suspension on the Range Rover.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the SQ8’s wheelbase is 2.9 inches longer than on the Range Rover (117.9 inches vs. 115 inches).

The SQ8’s liftgate lifts up in one piece, completely out of the way of loading and unloading, while sheltering the cargo loading area. The Range Rover’s tailgate’s top part raises up, but the bottom part lowers, getting in the way of loading and making an uneven surface for sliding cargo.

If the windows are left open on the SQ8 the driver can close them all at the outside door handle or from a distance using the remote. On a hot day the driver can lower the windows from a distance using the keyless remote. The driver of the Range Rover can only close the windows from inside the vehicle, with the ignition on.

The SQ8’s power window, power lock, power mirror and cruise control switches are lit from behind, making them plainly visible and easier to operate at night. The Range Rover’s power mirror switches are unlit, making them difficult to find at night and operate safely.

To help drivers see further while navigating curves, the SQ8 Prestige has standard adaptive headlights to illuminate around corners automatically by reading vehicle speed and steering wheel angle. The Range Rover doesn’t offer cornering lights.

To shield the driver and front passenger’s vision over a larger portion of the windshield and side windows, the SQ8 has standard extendable sun visors. The Range Rover doesn’t offer extendable visors.

A manual rear sunshade and power rear side window sunshades are optional in the SQ8 to help block heat and glare for the rear passengers. The Range Rover doesn’t offer a rear sunshade.

The SQ8 has a standard heated steering wheel to take the chill out of steering on extremely cold winter days before the vehicle heater warms up. A heated steering wheel costs extra on the Range Rover.

To quickly and conveniently keep personal devices charged without cables tangling and wearing out, the Audi SQ8 has a standard wireless phone charging system (Qi) in the center console. The Range Rover doesn’t offer wireless personal charging.
