The I-Pace has standard InControl, which uses a global positioning satellite (GPS) receiver and a cellular system to remotely unlock your doors if you lock your keys in, help track down your vehicle if it’s stolen or send emergency personnel to the scene if any airbags deploy. The C40 Recharge doesn’t offer a GPS response system, so if you’re involved in an accident and you’re incapacitated help may not come as quickly.

Both the I-Pace and the C40 Recharge have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front and rear seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, all wheel drive, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning, driver alert monitors and available around view monitors.

The I-Pace comes with a full 5-year/60,000-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire truck and includes 24-hour roadside assistance. The C40 Recharge’s 4-year/50,000-mile basic warranty expires 1 year or 10,000 miles sooner.

Jaguar pays for scheduled maintenance on the I-Pace for 2 years and 24,000 miles longer than Volvo pays for maintenance for the C40 Recharge (5/60,000 vs. 3/36,000).

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2021 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Jaguar vehicles are better in initial quality than Volvo vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Jaguar 19th in initial quality. With 45 more problems per 100 vehicles, Volvo is ranked 29th.

The I-Pace’s electric motors produce 26 lbs.-ft. more torque (512 vs. 486) than the C40 Recharge’s electric motors.

The I-Pace’s maximum EPA estimated driving range is 222 miles on a full charge, 6% further than the C40 Recharge’s 210 mile range.

For better traction, the I-Pace has larger standard tires than the C40 Recharge (245/50R20 vs. 235/45R20). The I-Pace’s optional tires are larger than the largest tires available on the C40 Recharge (255/40R22 vs. 235/45R20).

The I-Pace’s optional tires provide better handling because they have a lower 40 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the C40 Recharge’s 45 series tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the I-Pace offers optional 22-inch wheels. The C40 Recharge’s largest wheels are only 20-inches.

The I-Pace offers an optional space-saver spare tire so you can replace a flat tire and drive to have the flat repaired or replaced. A spare tire isn’t available on the C40 Recharge; it requires you to depend on roadside assistance and your vehicle will have to be towed.

The front and rear suspension of the I-Pace uses air springs for a smoother, controlled ride than the C40 Recharge, which uses coil springs. Air springs maintain proper ride height and ride more smoothly.

The I-Pace offers an optional driver-adjustable suspension system. It allows the driver to choose between an extra-supple ride, reducing fatigue on long trips, or a sport setting, which allows maximum control for tricky roads or off-road. The C40 Recharge’s suspension doesn’t offer adjustable shock absorbers.

The I-Pace has a standard automatic front and rear load leveling suspension to keep ride height level with a heavy load or when towing. The I-Pace’s height leveling suspension allows the driver to raise ride height for better off-road clearance and then lower it again for easier entering and exiting and better on-road handling. The C40 Recharge doesn’t offer a load leveling suspension.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the I-Pace’s wheelbase is 11.3 inches longer than on the C40 Recharge (117.7 inches vs. 106.4 inches).

For better handling and stability, the track (width between the wheels) on the I-Pace is 1.8 inches wider in the front and 1.5 inches wider in the rear than on the C40 Recharge.

The front grille of the I-Pace uses electronically controlled shutters to close off airflow and reduce drag when less engine cooling is needed. This helps improve highway fuel economy. The C40 Recharge doesn’t offer active grille shutters.

Unlike the driver-only memory seat in the C40 Recharge, the I-Pace has standard driver and passenger memory, so that when drivers switch, the memory setting adjusts the driver’s seat and outside mirror angle and the front passenger seat also adjusts to the new passenger’s preset preferences.

The I-Pace has a standard heads-up display that projects speed and navigation instruction readouts in front of the driver’s line of sight, allowing drivers to view information without diverting their eyes from the road. The C40 Recharge doesn’t offer a heads-up display.

Heated windshield washer nozzles are optional on the I-Pace to prevent washer fluid and nozzles from freezing and help continue to keep the windshield clear in sub-freezing temperatures. The C40 Recharge doesn’t offer heated windshield washer nozzles.

The I-Pace’s standard GPS navigation system has a real-time traffic update feature that plots alternative routes to automatically bypass traffic problems. (Service not available in all areas.) The C40 Recharge’s available navigation system doesn’t offer real-time traffic updates.

The I-Pace’s Park Assist can parallel park or back into a parking spot by itself, with the driver only controlling speed with the brake pedal. The C40 Recharge doesn’t offer an automated parking system.
