To provide maximum traction and stability on all roads, All-Wheel Drive is standard on the I-Pace. But it costs extra on the ID.4.

The I-Pace offers an optional 360° Surround Camera to allow the driver to see objects all around the vehicle on a screen. The ID.4 only offers a rear monitor and front and rear parking sensors that beep or flash a light. That doesn’t help with obstacles to the sides.

Both the I-Pace and the ID.4 have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front and rear seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning and driver alert monitors.

The I-Pace comes with a full 5-year/60,000-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire truck and includes 24-hour roadside assistance. The ID.4’s 4-year/50,000-mile basic warranty expires 1 year or 10,000 miles sooner.

The I-Pace’s corrosion warranty is unlimited miles longer than the ID.4’s (unlimited vs. 100,000 miles).

Jaguar pays for scheduled maintenance on the I-Pace for 3 years and 40,000 miles longer than Volkswagen pays for maintenance for the ID.4 (5/60,000 vs. 2/20,000).

The I-Pace’s electric motors produce 193 more horsepower (394 vs. 201) and 283 lbs.-ft. more torque (512 vs. 229) than the ID.4’s standard electric motor. The I-Pace’s electric motors produce 99 more horsepower (394 vs. 295) and 173 lbs.-ft. more torque (512 vs. 339) than the ID.4’s optional electric motors.

As tested in Motor Trend the Jaguar I-Pace is faster than the Volkswagen ID.4 electric motor:

The Jaguar I-Pace has standard four-wheel disc brakes for better stopping power and improved directional control in poor weather. Only rear drums come on the ID.4. Drums can heat up and make stops longer, especially with antilock brakes that work much harder than conventional brakes.

For better traction, the I-Pace has larger standard tires than the ID.4 (245/50R20 vs. 235/55R19). The I-Pace’s optional tires are larger than the largest tires available on the ID.4 (255/40R22 vs. 235/55R19).

The I-Pace’s standard tires provide better handling because they have a lower 50 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the ID.4’s standard 55 series front tires. The I-Pace’s optional tires have a lower 40 series profile than the ID.4’s optional 50 series front and 45 series rear tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the I-Pace has standard 20-inch wheels. Smaller 19-inch wheels are standard on the ID.4. The I-Pace’s optional 22-inch wheels are larger than the 20-inch wheels optional on the ID.4.

The I-Pace offers an optional space-saver spare tire so you can replace a flat tire and drive to have the flat repaired or replaced. A spare tire isn’t available on the ID.4; it requires you to depend on roadside assistance and your vehicle will have to be towed.

The front and rear suspension of the I-Pace uses air springs for a smoother, controlled ride than the ID.4, which uses coil springs. Air springs maintain proper ride height and ride more smoothly.

The I-Pace offers an optional driver-adjustable suspension system. It allows the driver to choose between an extra-supple ride, reducing fatigue on long trips, or a sport setting, which allows maximum control for tricky roads or off-road. The ID.4’s suspension doesn’t offer adjustable shock absorbers.

The I-Pace has a standard automatic front and rear load leveling suspension to keep ride height level with a heavy load or when towing. The I-Pace’s height leveling suspension allows the driver to raise ride height for better off-road clearance and then lower it again for easier entering and exiting and better on-road handling. The ID.4 doesn’t offer a load leveling suspension.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the I-Pace’s wheelbase is 8.8 inches longer than on the ID.4 (117.7 inches vs. 108.9 inches).

For better handling and stability, the track (width between the wheels) on the I-Pace is 2.2 inches wider in the front and 3.8 inches wider in the rear than on the ID.4.

The I-Pace’s front to rear weight distribution is more even (50% to 50%) than the ID.4’s (47% to 53%). This gives the I-Pace more stable handling and braking.

The I-Pace HSE handles at .90 G’s, while the ID.4 1st Edition pulls only .85 G’s of cornering force in a Car and Driver skidpad test.

The I-Pace HSE executes Motor Trend’s “Figure Eight” maneuver 2.6 seconds quicker than the ID.4 1st Edition (24.8 seconds @ .77 average G’s vs. 27.4 seconds @ .61 average G’s).

For greater off-road capability the I-Pace has a 3.2 inches greater minimum ground clearance than the ID.4 (7.8 vs. 4.6 inches), allowing the I-Pace to travel over rougher terrain without being stopped or damaged.

The front grille of the I-Pace uses electronically controlled shutters to close off airflow and reduce drag when less engine cooling is needed. This helps improve highway fuel economy. The ID.4 doesn’t offer active grille shutters.

Unlike the driver-only memory seat and mirrors in the ID.4 Pro S, the I-Pace has standard driver and passenger memory, so that when drivers switch, the memory setting adjusts the driver’s seat and outside mirror angle and the front passenger seat also adjusts to the new passenger’s preset preferences.

In poor weather, headlights can lose their effectiveness as grime builds up on their lenses. This can reduce visibility without the driver realizing. The I-Pace has standard headlight washers to keep headlight output high. The ID.4 doesn’t offer headlight washers.

The I-Pace’s standard rear and side view mirrors have an automatic dimming feature. These mirrors can be set to automatically darken quickly when headlights shine on them, keeping following vehicles from blinding or distracting the driver. The ID.4 has an automatic rear view mirror, but its side mirrors don’t dim.

Both the I-Pace and the ID.4 have standard heated front seats. The I-Pace also has standard heated rear seats to keep those passengers extremely comfortable in the winter. Heated rear seats aren’t available in the ID.4.

Standard air-conditioned seats in the I-Pace keep the driver and front passenger comfortable and take the sting out of hot seats in Summer. The ID.4 doesn’t offer air-conditioned seats.

The I-Pace’s Park Assist can parallel park or back into a parking spot by itself, with the driver only controlling speed with the brake pedal. The ID.4 doesn’t offer an automated parking system.
