The V60 Cross Country doesn’t offer a front passenger side knee airbag.

Both the Edge and the V60 Cross Country have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front and rear seatbelt pretensioners, height-adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, all-wheel drive, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, post-collision automatic braking systems, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning, driver alert monitors and available front parking sensors.

Any repair needed on the engine, transmission, axles, joints or driveshafts is fully covered for 5 years or 60,000 miles. Coverage on the V60 Cross Country ends after only 4 years or 50,000 miles.

There are almost 11 times as many Ford dealers as there are Volvo dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the Edge’s warranty.

The Edge has a standard “limp home system” to keep drivers from being stranded if most or all of the engine’s coolant is lost. The engine will run on only half of its cylinders at a time, reduce its power and light a warning lamp on the dashboard so the driver can get to a service station for repairs. The V60 Cross Country doesn’t offer a lost coolant limp home mode, so a coolant leak could strand you or seriously damage the car’s engine.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2021 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Ford vehicles are better in initial quality than Volvo vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Ford 14th in initial quality. With 48 more problems per 100 vehicles, Volvo is ranked 29th.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2021 survey of the owners of three-year-old vehicles provides the long-term dependability statistics that show that Ford vehicles are more reliable than Volvo vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Ford 22nd in reliability. With 13 more problems per 100 vehicles, Volvo is ranked 25th.

The Edge’s standard 2.0 turbo 4-cylinder produces 22 lbs.-ft. more torque (280 vs. 258) than the V60 Cross Country’s 2.0 turbo 4-cylinder. The Edge ST’s standard 2.7 turbo V6 produces 85 more horsepower (335 vs. 250) and 122 lbs.-ft. more torque (380 vs. 258) than the V60 Cross Country’s 2.0 turbo 4-cylinder.

As tested in Motor Trend the Ford Edge is faster than the Volvo V60 Cross Country:

Both the Edge and the V60 Cross Country have a standard automatic start/stop engine feature to stop unnecessary fuel waste and pollution at stop lights and heavy traffic. All Edges have a standard disable switch for the system, so a driver can keep the engine from shutting off when the vehicle stops temporarily. A disable switch costs extra on the V60 Cross Country.

To lower fuel costs and make buying fuel easier, the Ford Edge uses regular unleaded gasoline (premium recommended for maximum performance). The V60 Cross Country requires premium, which can cost 20 to 55 cents more per gallon.

The Edge FWD’s standard fuel tank has 2.5 gallons more fuel capacity than the V60 Cross Country (18.4 vs. 15.9 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups. The Edge AWD’s standard fuel tank has 2.6 gallons more fuel capacity than the V60 Cross Country (18.5 vs. 15.9 gallons).

The Edge has a standard cap-less fueling system. The fuel filler is automatically opened when the fuel nozzle is inserted and automatically closed when it’s removed. This eliminates the need to unscrew and replace the cap and it reduces fuel evaporation, which causes pollution. The V60 Cross Country doesn’t offer a cap-less fueling system.

For better traction, the Edge has larger standard tires than the V60 Cross Country (245/60R18 vs. 215/50R18). The Edge ST’s optional tires are larger than the largest tires available on the V60 Cross Country (265/40R21 vs. 235/45R19).

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the Edge ST offers optional 21-inch wheels. The V60 Cross Country’s largest wheels are only 20-inches.

The Edge has standard front and rear gas-charged shocks for better control over choppy roads. The V60 Cross Country’s suspension doesn’t offer gas-charged shocks.

The front and rear suspension of the Edge uses coil springs for better ride, handling and control than the V60 Cross Country, which uses transverse leafs springs in the rear. Coil springs compress more progressively and offer more suspension travel for a smoother ride with less bottoming out.

The Edge’s drift compensation steering can automatically compensate for road conditions which would cause the vehicle to drift from side to side, helping the driver to keep the vehicle straight more easily. The V60 Cross Country doesn’t offer drift compensation steering.

The Edge ST handles at .88 G’s, while the V60 Cross Country pulls only .82 G’s of cornering force in a Motor Trend skidpad test.

The Edge ST executes Motor Trend’s “Figure Eight” maneuver 1.2 seconds quicker than the V60 Cross Country (26 seconds @ .7 average G’s vs. 27.2 seconds @ .67 average G’s).

The front grille of the Edge uses electronically controlled shutters to close off airflow and reduce drag when less engine cooling is needed. This helps improve highway fuel economy. The V60 Cross Country doesn’t offer active grille shutters.

The Edge ST uses computer-generated active noise cancellation to help remove annoying noise and vibration from the passenger compartment, especially at low frequencies. The V60 Cross Country doesn’t offer active noise cancellation.

The Edge has 19.9 cubic feet more passenger volume than the V60 Cross Country (113.9 vs. 94).

The Edge has 2.8 inches more front headroom, .3 inches more front legroom, .6 inches more front hip room, 4.2 inches more front shoulder room, 2.2 inches more rear headroom, 5.4 inches more rear legroom, 4.1 inches more rear hip room and 6 inches more rear shoulder room than the V60 Cross Country.

For enhanced passenger comfort on long trips the Edge’s rear seats recline. The V60 Cross Country’s rear seats don’t recline.

Pressing a switch automatically lowers the Edge SEL/Titanium/ST’s rear seats, to make changing between passengers and cargo easier. The V60 Cross Country doesn’t offer automatic folding seats.

Maximum trailer towing in the Volvo V60 Cross Country is limited to 2000 pounds. The Edge offers up to a 3500 lbs. towing capacity.

The Edge Titanium/ST’s standard easy entry system raises the steering wheel and glides the driver’s seat back when the door is unlocked or the ignition is switched off, making it easier for the driver to get in and out. The V60 Cross Country doesn’t offer an easy entry system.

In case you lock your keys in your vehicle, or don’t have them with you, you can let yourself in using the Edge’s available exterior PIN entry system. The V60 Cross Country doesn’t offer an exterior PIN entry system, and its Volvo On Call can’t unlock the doors if the vehicle doesn’t have cell phone reception or the driver can’t contact the service.

To shield the driver and front passenger’s vision over a larger portion of the windshield and side windows, the Edge has standard extendable sun visors. The V60 Cross Country doesn’t offer extendable visors.

The Edge (except SE) offers an optional 115-volt a/c outlet on the center console, allowing you to recharge a laptop or run small household appliances without special adapters that can break or get misplaced. The V60 Cross Country doesn’t offer a house-current electrical outlet.
