The Audi A6 Allroad has standard driver and front passenger side knee airbags mounted low on the dashboard. These airbags helps prevent the driver and front passenger from sliding under their seatbelts or the main frontal airbags; this keeps them better positioned during a collision for maximum protection. Knee airbags also help keep the legs from striking the dashboard, preventing knee and leg injuries in the case of a serious frontal collision. The V60 doesn’t offer a front passenger side knee airbag.

To provide maximum traction and stability on all roads, All-Wheel Drive is standard on the A6 Allroad. But it costs extra on the V60.

When descending a steep, off-road slope, the A6 Allroad’s standard Hill Descent Control allows you to creep down safely. The V60 doesn’t offer Hill Descent Control.

A passive infrared night vision system optional on the A6 Allroad Prestige helps the driver to more easily detect people, animals or other objects in front of the vehicle at night. Using an infrared camera to detect heat, the system then displays the image on a monitor in the dashboard. The V60 doesn’t offer a night vision system.

Both the A6 Allroad and the V60 have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front and rear seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, post-collision automatic braking systems, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, rearview cameras, available blind spot warning systems and rear cross-path warning.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration does 35 MPH front crash tests on new vehicles. In this test, results indicate that the Audi A6 Allroad is safer than the Volvo V60:

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration does side impact tests on new vehicles. In this test, which crashes the vehicle into a flat barrier at 38.5 MPH, results indicate that the Audi A6 Allroad is safer than the Volvo V60:

Reliability

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2021 survey of the owners of three-year-old vehicles provides the long-term dependability statistics that show that Audi vehicles are more reliable than Volvo vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Audi 20th in reliability. With 16 more problems per 100 vehicles, Volvo is ranked 25th.

From surveys of all its subscribers, Consumer Reports’ January 2021 Auto Issue reports that Audi vehicles are more reliable than Volvo vehicles. Consumer Reports ranks Audi 4 places higher in reliability than Volvo.

Engine

The A6 Allroad’s 3.0 turbo V6 hybrid produces 85 more horsepower (335 vs. 250) and 111 lbs.-ft. more torque (369 vs. 258) than the V60 T5’s standard 2.0 turbo 4-cylinder.

As tested in Motor Trend the Audi A6 Allroad is faster than the V60 T5 2.0 turbo 4-cylinder:

Fuel Economy and Range

Both the A6 Allroad and the V60 have a standard automatic start/stop engine feature to stop unnecessary fuel waste and pollution at stop lights and heavy traffic. All A6 Allroads have a standard disable switch for the system, so a driver can keep the engine from shutting off when the vehicle stops temporarily. A disable switch costs extra on the V60.

The A6 Allroad has 3.4 gallons more fuel capacity than the V60 (19.3 vs. 15.9 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups.

Transmission

The A6 Allroad offers a standard sequential manual gearbox (SMG). With no clutch pedal to worry about and a fully automatic mode, an SMG is much more efficient than a conventional automatic but just as easy to drive. The V60 doesn’t offer an SMG or a conventional manual transmission.

The A6 Allroad’s launch control uses engine electronics to hold engine RPM’s precisely in order to provide the most stable and rapid acceleration possible, using all of the available traction. The V60 doesn’t offer launch control.

Brakes and Stopping

For better stopping power the A6 Allroad’s brake rotors are larger than those on the V60:

Tires and Wheels

For better traction, the A6 Allroad has larger tires than the V60 (245/45R20 vs. 235/45R18).

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the A6 Allroad has standard 20-inch wheels. Smaller 18-inch wheels are standard on the V60. The V60’s largest wheels are only 19-inches.

Suspension and Handling

The front and rear suspension of the A6 Allroad uses air springs for a smoother, controlled ride than the V60, which uses coil springs in front and transverse leafs springs in the rear. Air springs maintain proper ride height and ride more smoothly.

The A6 Allroad has a standard automatic front and rear load leveling suspension to keep ride height level with a heavy load or when towing. The A6 Allroad’s height leveling suspension allows the driver to raise ride height for better off-road clearance and then lower it again for easier entering and exiting and better on-road handling. The V60 doesn’t offer a load leveling suspension.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the A6 Allroad’s wheelbase is 2.1 inches longer than on the V60 (115.2 inches vs. 113.1 inches).

For better handling and stability, the track (width between the wheels) on the A6 Allroad is 1.8 inches wider in the front and .4 inches wider in the rear than on the V60.

The A6 Allroad Prestige executes Motor Trend’s “Figure Eight” maneuver quicker than the V60 Momentum (26.5 seconds @ .68 average G’s vs. 27.1 seconds @ .66 average G’s).

For better maneuverability, the A6 Allroad Prestige w/All-Wheel Steering’s turning circle is .7 feet tighter than the V60’s (36.4 feet vs. 37.1 feet).

For greater off-road capability the A6 Allroad Premium Plus has a greater minimum ground clearance than the V60 (6.1 vs. 5.4 inches), allowing the A6 Allroad to travel over rougher terrain without being stopped or damaged. The A6 Allroad Prestige’s minimum ground clearance is 1.9 inches higher than on the V60 (7.3 vs. 5.4 inches).

Passenger Space

Because it has more passenger and cargo room, the EPA rates the A6 Allroad a Mid-Size Station Wagon car, while the V60 is rated a Small Station Wagon.

The A6 Allroad has 7 cubic feet more passenger volume than the V60 (101 vs. 94).

The A6 Allroad has 1.7 inches more front shoulder room, 1.5 inches more rear headroom, 2.2 inches more rear legroom and 2 inches more rear shoulder room than the V60.

For enhanced passenger comfort on long trips the A6 Allroad’s rear seats recline. The V60’s rear seats don’t recline.

Cargo Capacity

The A6 Allroad has a much larger cargo volume with its rear seat up than the V60 with its rear seat up (30 vs. 23.2 cubic feet). The A6 Allroad has a much larger trunk with its rear seat folded than the V60 with its rear seat folded (63.8 vs. 50.9 cubic feet).

Pulling a handle automatically lowers the A6 Allroad’s rear seats, to make changing between passengers and cargo easier. The V60 doesn’t offer automatic folding seats.

Servicing Ease

The engine in the A6 Allroad is mounted longitudinally (North-South), instead of sideways, as in the V60. This makes it easier to service and maintain, because the accessory belts are in front.

Ergonomics

Unlike the driver-only memory seat and mirrors in the V60, the A6 Allroad Prestige offers an optional passenger memory, so that when drivers switch, the memory setting adjusts the driver’s seat, steering wheel position, outside mirror angle and climate settings and the front passenger seat also adjusts to the new passenger’s preset preferences.

The A6 Allroad’s standard easy entry system raises the steering wheel, making it easier for the driver to get in and out. The V60 doesn’t offer an easy entry system.

To shield the driver and front passenger’s vision over a larger portion of the windshield and side windows, the A6 Allroad has standard extendable sun visors. The V60 doesn’t offer extendable visors.

The A6 Allroad has a standard heated steering wheel to take the chill out of steering on extremely cold winter days before the car heater warms up. A heated steering wheel costs extra on the V60.

To quickly and conveniently keep personal devices charged without cables tangling and wearing out, the Audi A6 Allroad has a standard wireless phone charging system (Qi) in the center console. The V60 doesn’t offer wireless personal charging.
