Compare the2022 Hyundai Elantra NVS 2022 Cadillac CT4-V

For enhanced safety, the front seat shoulder belts of the Hyundai Elantra N are height-adjustable to accommodate a wide variety of driver and passenger heights. A better fit can prevent injuries and the increased comfort also encourages passengers to buckle up. The Cadillac CT4-V doesn’t offer height-adjustable seat belts.

The Elantra N’s driver alert monitor detects an inattentive driver then sounds a warning and suggests a break. According to the NHTSA, drivers who fall asleep cause about 100,000 crashes and 1500 deaths a year. The CT4-V doesn’t offer a driver alert monitor.

Both the Elantra N and the CT4-V have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, plastic fuel tanks, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras and rear cross-path warning.

For its top level performance in IIHS driver and passenger-side small overlap frontal, moderate overlap frontal, side impact, roof strength and head restraint tests, its standard vehicle-to-vehicle front crash prevention system, its standard vehicle-to-pedestrian front crash prevention system, and its available headlight’s “Good” rating, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety grants the Elantra N the rating of “Top Pick” for 2021, a rating granted to only 135 vehicles tested by the IIHS. The CT4-V has not been tested, yet.

The Elantra N comes with a full 5-year/60,000-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire car and includes 24-hour roadside assistance. The CT4-V’s 4-year/50,000-mile basic warranty expires 1 year or 10,000 miles sooner.

Hyundai’s powertrain warranty covers the Elantra N 4 years and 30,000 miles longer than Cadillac covers the CT4-V. Any repair needed on the engine, transmission, axles, joints or driveshafts is fully covered for 10 years or 100,000 miles. Coverage on the CT4-V ends after only 6 years or 70,000 miles.

The Elantra N’s corrosion warranty is 1 year longer than the CT4-V’s (7 vs. 6 years).

Hyundai pays for scheduled maintenance on the Elantra N for 3 years and 36,000 miles. Hyundai will pay for oil changes, lubrication and any other required maintenance. Cadillac only pays for the first scheduled maintenance visit on the CT4-V.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2021 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Hyundai vehicles are better in initial quality than Cadillac vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Hyundai 8th in initial quality, above the industry average. With 24 more problems per 100 vehicles, Cadillac is ranked 22nd, below the industry average.

From surveys of all its subscribers, Consumer Reports’ January 2021 Auto Issue reports that Hyundai vehicles are more reliable than Cadillac vehicles. Consumer Reports ranks Hyundai 15 places higher in reliability than Cadillac.

On the EPA test cycle the Elantra N gets better mileage than the CT4-V:

The Elantra N offers an optional sequential manual gearbox (SMG). With no clutch pedal to worry about and a fully automatic mode, an SMG is much more efficient than a conventional automatic but just as easy to drive. The CT4-V doesn’t offer an SMG.

For better stopping power the Elantra N’s standard brake rotors are larger than those on the CT4-V:

For better traction, the Elantra N has larger tires than the CT4-V (245/35R19 vs. 235/40R18). The Elantra N’s tires are larger than the largest tires available on the CT4-V (245/35R19 vs. 235/35R18).

The Elantra N’s tires provide better handling because they have a lower 35 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the CT4-V’s standard 40 series tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the Elantra N has standard 19-inch wheels. Smaller 18-inch wheels are standard on the CT4-V.

For better handling and stability, the track (width between the wheels) on the Elantra N is 2 inches wider in the front and 1.1 inches wider in the rear than the average track on the CT4-V.

The Hyundai Elantra N may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 450 to 600 pounds less than the Cadillac CT4-V.

The Elantra N is 3.1 inches shorter than the CT4-V, making the Elantra N easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

To minimize engine movement during hard acceleration and transmission shifts, the Elantra N has solid engine mounts. The CT4-V uses conventional rubber.

Because it has more passenger and cargo room, the EPA rates the Elantra N a Mid-size car, while the CT4-V is rated a Compact.

The Elantra N has 9.4 cubic feet more passenger volume than the CT4-V (99.4 vs. 90).

The Elantra N has 1.6 inches more front headroom, .4 inches more front hip room, 1.3 inches more front shoulder room, .8 inches more rear headroom, 4.6 inches more rear legroom and 1.7 inches more rear shoulder room than the CT4-V.

The Elantra N has a much larger trunk than the CT4-V (14.2 vs. 10.7 cubic feet).

A low lift-over trunk design makes loading and unloading the Elantra N easier. The Elantra N’s trunk lift-over height is 28.6 inches, while the CT4-V’s liftover is 30 inches.

To make loading groceries and cargo easier when your hands are full, the Elantra N’s trunk can be opened just by waiting momentarily behind the back bumper, leaving your hands completely free. The CT4-V doesn’t offer a hands-free gesture to open its trunk, forcing you to put cargo down if your hands are full.

The Elantra N can be flat towed on all four wheels (dinghy towed), allowing recreational vehicle owners to bring it with them on the road. When they reach their destination, the Elantra N can be unhitched and driven around locally. The CT4-V can’t be towed flat on the ground.

The Elantra N has a standard locking fuel door with a remote release located convenient to the driver. A locking fuel door helps prevent fuel theft and vandalism, such as sugar in the tank. The CT4-V doesn’t offer a locking fuel door.

The Hyundai Elantra outsold the Cadillac CT4 by almost 16 to one during the 2021 model year.
