The Audi R8 has standard driver and front passenger side knee airbags mounted low on the dashboard. These airbags helps prevent the driver and front passenger from sliding under their seatbelts or the main frontal airbags; this keeps them better positioned during a collision for maximum protection. Knee airbags also help keep the legs from striking the dashboard, preventing knee and leg injuries in the case of a serious frontal collision. The NSX doesn’t offer a front passenger side knee airbag.

The R8 has a standard Secondary Collision Brake Assist, which automatically applies the brakes in the event of a crash to help prevent secondary collisions and prevent further injuries. The NSX doesn’t offer a post collision braking system: in the event of a collision that triggers the airbags, more collisions are possible without the protection of airbags that may have already deployed.

Both the R8 and the NSX have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, daytime running lights and rearview cameras.

The R8’s corrosion warranty is 7 years longer than the NSX’s (12 vs. 5 years).

There are over 12 percent more Audi dealers than there are Acura dealers, which makes it easier should you ever need service under the R8’s warranty.

From surveys of all its subscribers, Consumer Reports’ January 2021 Auto Issue reports that Audi vehicles are more reliable than Acura vehicles. Consumer Reports ranks Audi 14 places higher in reliability than Acura.

Both the R8 and NSX have a standard automatic start/stop engine feature to stop unnecessary fuel waste and pollution at stop lights and heavy traffic. The R8 has a standard disable switch for the system, so a driver can keep the engine from shutting off when the vehicle stops temporarily.

The R8 Coupe’s standard fuel tank has 3.7 gallons more fuel capacity than the NSX (19.3 vs. 15.6 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups. The R8 Spyder’s standard fuel tank has 5.5 gallons more fuel capacity than the NSX (21.1 vs. 15.6 gallons).

The R8’s tires provide better handling because they have a lower 30 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the NSX’s standard 35 series front tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the R8 has standard 20-inch wheels. Only 19-inch front wheels are available on the NSX.

For better maneuverability, the R8’s turning circle is 3 feet tighter than the NSX’s (36.7 feet vs. 39.7 feet).

The Audi R8 may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs up to about 300 pounds less than the Acura NSX.

The R8 is 4.1 inches shorter than the NSX, making the R8 easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

The R8 has 6 cubic feet more passenger volume than the NSX (50 vs. 44).

When different drivers share the R8, the memory system makes it convenient. Each keyless remote activates different, customized memories for the driver’s seat position, suspension setting, power steering assist and climate settings. The NSX doesn’t offer a memory system.

To help drivers avoid possible obstacles, the R8 has standard cornering lights to illuminate around corners when the turn signals are activated. The NSX doesn’t offer cornering lights.

The R8’s standard rear and side view mirrors have an automatic dimming feature. These mirrors can be set to automatically darken quickly when headlights shine on them, keeping following vehicles from blinding or distracting the driver. The NSX has an automatic rear view mirror, but its side mirrors don’t dim.

To quickly and conveniently keep personal devices charged without cables tangling and wearing out, the Audi R8 has a standard wireless phone charging system (Qi) in the center console. The NSX doesn’t offer wireless personal charging.

The Audi R8 comes in coupe and convertible bodystyles; the Acura NSX isn’t available as a convertible.

The R8 is available in both rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive configurations. The NSX doesn’t offer a two-wheel drive configuration.

The Audi R8 outsold the Acura NSX by over four to one during the 2021 model year.
