For enhanced safety, the front and rear seat shoulder belts of the Audi Q8 have pretensioners to tighten the seatbelts and eliminate dangerous slack in the event of a collision and force limiters to limit the pressure the belts will exert on the passengers. The Genesis GV80 doesn’t offer pretensioners for the rear seat belts.

The Q8’s pre-crash front seatbelts will tighten automatically in the event the vehicle detects an impending crash, improving protection against injury significantly. The GV80 doesn’t offer pre-crash pretensioners.

The Q8 has a standard Secondary Collision Brake Assist, which automatically applies the brakes in the event of a crash to help prevent secondary collisions and prevent further injuries. The GV80 doesn’t offer a post collision braking system: in the event of a collision that triggers the airbags, more collisions are possible without the protection of airbags that may have already deployed.

To provide maximum traction and stability on all roads, All-Wheel Drive is standard on the Q8. But it costs extra on the GV80.

A passive infrared night vision system optional on the Q8 Prestige helps the driver to more easily detect people, animals or other objects in front of the vehicle at night. Using an infrared camera to detect heat, the system then displays the image on a monitor in the dashboard. The GV80 doesn’t offer a night vision system.

Both the Q8 and the GV80 have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front and rear side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning and available around view monitors.

The Q8’s corrosion warranty is 5 years longer than the GV80’s (12 vs. 7 years).

The Q8’s 3.0 turbo V6 hybrid produces 35 more horsepower (335 vs. 300) and 58 lbs.-ft. more torque (369 vs. 311) than the GV80’s standard 2.5 turbo 4-cylinder.

As tested in Motor Trend the Audi Q8 is faster than the Genesis GV80:

Regenerative brakes improve the Q8’s fuel efficiency by converting inertia back into energy instead of wasting it. The GV80 doesn’t offer a regenerative braking system.

The Q8 has 1.4 gallons more fuel capacity than the GV80 (22.5 vs. 21.1 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups.

For better stopping power the Q8’s standard front brake rotors are larger than those on the GV80:

For better traction, the Q8 has larger tires than the GV80 (285/45R21 vs. 265/40R22).

The Q8’s standard tires provide better handling because they have a lower 45 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the GV80’s standard 55 series tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the Q8 has standard 21-inch wheels. Smaller 19-inch wheels are standard on the GV80.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the Q8’s wheelbase is 1.6 inches longer than on the GV80 (117.9 inches vs. 116.3 inches).

The Q8 Prestige handles at .83 G’s, while the GV80 Standard AWD pulls only .79 G’s of cornering force in a Motor Trend skidpad test.

The Q8 Prestige executes Motor Trend’s “Figure Eight” maneuver quicker than the GV80 Standard AWD (26.9 seconds @ .69 average G’s vs. 27.4 seconds @ .63 average G’s).

The Q8 has 1.5 inches more rear legroom and .3 inches more rear shoulder room than the GV80.

The Q8 has a much larger cargo volume than the GV80 with its rear seat up (30.5 vs. 11.6 cubic feet).

The Q8’s standard towing capacity is much higher than the GV80’s (7700 vs. 6000 pounds).

Unlike the driver-only memory system in the GV80, the Q8 Prestige offers an optional passenger memory, so that when drivers switch, the memory setting adjusts the driver’s seat, steering wheel position and outside mirror angle and the front passenger seat also adjusts to the new passenger’s preset preferences.

If the windows are left open on the Q8 the driver can close them all at the outside door handle or from a distance using the remote. On a hot day the driver can lower the windows from a distance using the keyless remote. The driver of the GV80 can’t use the remote to operate the windows.

To help drivers see further while navigating curves, the Q8 (except Premium) offers optional adaptive headlights to illuminate around corners automatically by reading vehicle speed and steering wheel angle. The GV80 doesn’t offer cornering lights.

A manual rear sunshade is optional in the Q8 and power rear side window sunshades are optional in the Q8 (except Premium) to help block heat and glare for the rear passengers. The GV80 doesn’t offer a rear sunshade.

The Audi Q8/SQ8/RS Q8 outsold the Genesis GV80 by almost 8 to one during 2020.
