The e-tron has a standard Secondary Collision Brake Assist, which automatically applies the brakes in the event of a crash to help prevent secondary collisions and prevent further injuries. The Taycan doesn’t offer a post collision braking system: in the event of a collision that triggers the airbags, more collisions are possible without the protection of airbags that may have already deployed.

To allow off-road and deep snow capability, Four-Wheel Drive is standard on the e-tron. But it costs extra on the Taycan.

When descending a steep, off-road slope, the e-tron’s standard Hill Descent Control allows you to creep down safely. The Taycan doesn’t offer Hill Descent Control.

The e-tron has a standard blind spot warning system which uses sensors to alert the driver to objects in the vehicle’s blind spots where the side view mirrors don’t reveal them. A system to reveal vehicles in the Taycan’s blind spot costs extra.

To help make backing out of a parking space safer, the e-tron has a standard rear cross-path warning system, which uses sensors in the rear bumper to alert the driver to vehicles approaching from the side, helping the driver avoid collisions. Rear cross-path warning costs extra on the Taycan.

Both the e-tron and the Taycan have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver and front passenger knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, rearview cameras, available night vision systems and around view monitors.

The Audi e-tron weighs 566 to 1506 pounds more than the Porsche Taycan. The NHTSA advises that heavier vehicles are much safer in collisions than their significantly lighter counterparts.

For its top level performance in IIHS driver and passenger-side small overlap frontal, moderate overlap frontal, side impact, roof strength and head restraint tests, its standard vehicle-to-vehicle front crash prevention system, its standard vehicle-to-pedestrian front crash prevention system, and its standard headlight’s “Good” rating, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety grants the e-tron its highest rating: “Top Safety Pick Plus” for 2021, a rating granted to only 76 vehicles tested by the IIHS. The Taycan has not been tested, yet.

There are over 57 percent more Audi dealers than there are Porsche dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the e-tron’s warranty.

For better traction, the e-tron has larger standard tires than the Taycan (255/50R20 vs. 225/55R19).

The e-tron’s standard tires provide better handling because they have a lower 50 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the Taycan’s standard 55 series front tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the e-tron has standard 20-inch wheels. Smaller 19-inch wheels are standard on the Taycan.

The front and rear suspension of the e-tron uses air springs for a smoother, controlled ride than the Taycan, which uses coil springs. Air springs maintain proper ride height and ride more smoothly.

The e-tron has a standard automatic front and rear load leveling suspension to keep ride height level with a heavy load or when towing. The e-tron’s height leveling suspension allows the driver to raise ride height for better off-road clearance and then lower it again for easier entering and exiting and better on-road handling. The Taycan doesn’t offer a load leveling suspension.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the e-tron S’ wheelbase is .9 inches longer than on the Taycan (115.1 inches vs. 114.2 inches). The e-tron’s wheelbase is 1.1 inches longer than on the Taycan (115.3 inches vs. 114.2 inches).

For excellent aerodynamics, the e-tron has standard flush composite headlights. The Taycan has recessed headlights that spoil its aerodynamic shape and create extra drag.

The e-tron has a much larger cargo volume with its rear seat up than the Taycan Cross Turismo with its rear seat up (28.5 vs. 18.7 cubic feet). The e-tron has a much larger cargo volume with its rear seat folded than the Taycan Cross Turismo with its rear seat folded (56.4 vs. 45.7 cubic feet).

Pulling a handle automatically lowers the e-tron’s rear seats, to make changing between passengers and cargo easier. The Taycan doesn’t offer automatic folding seats.

The e-tron’s standard easy entry system glides the driver’s seat back, making it easier for the driver to get in and out. An easy entry system costs extra on the Taycan.

If the windows are left open on the e-tron the driver can close them all at the outside door handle or from a distance using the remote. On a hot day the driver can lower the windows from a distance using the keyless remote. The driver of the Taycan can only operate the windows from inside the vehicle, with the ignition on.

To improve rear visibility by keeping the rear window clear, the e-tron has a standard rear wiper. The Taycan doesn’t offer a rear wiper.

To shield the driver and front passenger’s vision over a larger portion of the windshield and side windows, the e-tron has standard extendable sun visors. The Taycan doesn’t offer extendable visors.

Manual rear side window sunshades are available in the e-tron to help block heat and glare for the rear passengers. The Taycan doesn’t offer rear side window sunshades.

The e-tron has a standard heated steering wheel to take the chill out of steering on extremely cold winter days before the vehicle heater warms up. A heated steering wheel costs extra on the Taycan.

Insurance will cost less for the e-tron owner. The Complete Car Cost Guide estimates that insurance for the e-tron will cost $2795 to $10060 less than the Taycan over a five-year period.

IntelliChoice estimates that five-year ownership costs (depreciation, financing, insurance, fuel, fees, repairs and maintenance) for the Audi e-tron will be $27840 to $83028 less than for the Porsche Taycan.

The Audi e-tron outsold the Porsche Taycan by 12% during the 2021 model year.
