The M4’s pre-crash front seatbelts will tighten automatically in the event the vehicle detects an impending crash, improving protection against injury significantly. The F-Type doesn’t offer pre-crash pretensioners.

The BMW M4 has standard driver and front passenger side knee airbags mounted low on the dashboard. These airbags helps prevent the driver and front passenger from sliding under their seatbelts or the main frontal airbags; this keeps them better positioned during a collision for maximum protection. Knee airbags also help keep the legs from striking the dashboard, preventing knee and leg injuries in the case of a serious frontal collision. The F-Type doesn’t offer knee airbags.

The M4 has a standard PostCrash iBrake, which automatically applies the brakes in the event of a crash to help prevent secondary collisions and prevent further injuries. The F-Type doesn’t offer a post collision braking system: in the event of a collision that triggers the airbags, more collisions are possible without the protection of airbags that may have already deployed.

Over 200 people are killed each year when backed over by motor vehicles. The M4 offers optional Active Park Distance Control that uses rear sensors to monitor and automatically apply the brakes to prevent a rear collision. The F-Type doesn’t offer backup collision prevention brakes.

The M4 has a standard blind spot warning system which uses sensors to alert the driver to objects in the vehicle’s blind spots where the side view mirrors don’t reveal them and moves the vehicle back into its lane. A system to reveal vehicles in the F-Type’s blind spot costs extra.

To help make backing out of a parking space safer, the M4 has a standard rear cross-path warning system, which uses sensors in the rear bumper to alert the driver to vehicles approaching from the side, helping the driver avoid collisions. Rear cross-path warning costs extra on the F-Type.

Both the M4 and the F-Type have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, rearview cameras and driver alert monitors.

The M4’s corrosion warranty is 6 years longer than the F-Type’s (12 vs. 6 years).

There are almost 2 times as many BMW dealers as there are Jaguar dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the M4’s warranty.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2021 survey of the owners of three-year-old vehicles provides the long-term dependability statistics that show that BMW vehicles are more reliable than Jaguar vehicles. J.D. Power ranks BMW 10th in reliability, above the industry average. With 78 more problems per 100 vehicles, Jaguar is ranked 31st.

The M4’s standard 3.0 turbo 6-cylinder produces 29 more horsepower (473 vs. 444) than the F-Type P450’s standard 5.0 supercharged V8.

Regenerative brakes improve the M4’s fuel efficiency by converting inertia back into energy instead of wasting it. The F-Type doesn’t offer a regenerative braking system.

In its Green Vehicle Guide, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) rates the BMW M4 higher (5 out of 10) than the Jaguar F-Type (3). This means the M4 produces up to 16.5 pounds less smog-producing pollutants than the F-Type every 15,000 miles.

The M4 offers a manual transmission for better acceleration, control and sportiness. The F-Type doesn’t offer a manual transmission.

For better stopping power the M4 CCB’s front brake rotors are larger than those on the F-Type:

The M4 offers optional heat-treated ceramic brake rotors, which last ten to twenty times as long as conventional cast iron rotors, don’t rust, don’t fade during repeated high speed braking, and their lighter weight contribute to better braking, handling and acceleration. The F-Type doesn’t offer ceramic brake rotors.

For better traction, the M4 has larger front tires than the F-Type (275/40R18 vs. 255/35R20). The M4’s front tires are larger than the largest tires available on the F-Type (275/40R18 vs. 265/35R20).

The M4 has standard front and rear gas-charged shocks for better control over choppy roads. The F-Type’s suspension doesn’t offer gas-charged shocks.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the M4’s wheelbase is 9.3 inches longer than on the F-Type (112.5 inches vs. 103.2 inches).

For better handling and stability, the track (width between the wheels) on the M4 is 1.3 inches wider in the front than on the F-Type.

The M4’s front to rear weight distribution is more even (51% to 49%) than the F-Type’s (54.5% to 45.5%). This gives the M4 more stable handling and braking.

The M4 Coupe handles at 1.03 G’s, while the F-Type R Coupe pulls only 1.00 G’s of cornering force in a Car and Driver skidpad test.

The design of the BMW M4 amounts to more than styling. The M4 has an aerodynamic coefficient of drag of .34 Cd. That is lower than the F-Type (.35 to .36). A more efficient exterior helps the M4 go faster and keeps the interior quieter. It also helps the M4 get better fuel mileage.

The M4’s standard power retractable hardtop allows a seamless transition from an open car, to a completely sealed coupe. The F-Type doesn’t offer a retractable hardtop.

The M4 has standard seating for 4 passengers; the F-Type can only carry 2.

The M4 Convertible has a much larger trunk with its top down than the F-Type Convertible (10.6 vs. 7.3 cubic feet).

To make loading groceries and cargo easier when your hands are full, the M4’s trunk can be opened just by kicking your foot under the back bumper, leaving your hands completely free. The F-Type doesn’t offer a hands-free gesture to open its trunk, forcing you to put cargo down if your hands are full.

J.D. Power and Associates surveys of service recipients show that BMW service is better than Jaguar. J.D. Power ranks BMW 8th in service department satisfaction (above the industry average). With a 13% lower rating, Jaguar is ranked 18th.

The M4 offers an optional heads-up display that projects speed, tachometer, warning and navigation instruction readouts in front of the driver’s line of sight, allowing drivers to view information without diverting their eyes from the road. The F-Type doesn’t offer a heads-up display.

In case of a sudden change of weather, the M4 has a standard remote convertible top that can be raised from a distance to protect the interior of the vehicle from damage. On a hot day the M4 has a standard remote opening feature, to lower the top from outside. The F-Type doesn’t offer a remote top, so the driver will have to run to the car, get in, turn the ignition on and raise the top to prevent the interior from being damaged.

To help drivers avoid possible obstacles, the M4 has standard cornering lights to illuminate around corners when the turn signals are activated. The F-Type doesn’t offer cornering lights. The M4 also offers optional adaptive headlights to illuminate around corners automatically by reading vehicle speed and steering wheel angle.

The M4’s sun-visors swivel front-to-side to block glare from the side windows. The F-Type’s visors are fixed into the windshield header.

The M4 has a standard dual zone air conditioning allows the driver and front passenger to choose two completely different temperatures so people with different temperature preferences won’t have to compromise. This makes both the driver and front passenger as comfortable as possible. Dual zone air conditioning costs extra on the F-Type.

To keep a safe, consistent following distance, the M4 Competition offers an optional Active Cruise Control, which alters the speed of the vehicle without driver intervention. This allows the driver to use cruise control more safely without constantly having to disengage it when approaching slower traffic. The F-Type doesn’t offer an adaptive cruise control.

With standard voice command, the M4 offers the driver hands free control of the radio, climate controls and the navigation computer by simply speaking. The F-Type doesn’t offer a voice control system.

The M4’s available Parking Assistant can parallel park or back into a parking spot by itself, with the driver only controlling the transmission and speed with the brake pedal. With its available fully controlled system, the driver just activates it and it parks autonomously, starting, stopping and changing direction automatically. The F-Type’s automatic parking system requires operating the brakes and transmission to safely park.
