The BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe has standard driver and front passenger side knee airbags mounted low on the dashboard. The 4 Series Gran Coupe has a standard PostCrash iBrake, which automatically applies the brakes in the event of a crash to help prevent secondary collisions and prevent further injuries. The G80 doesn’t offer a post collision braking system: in the event of a collision that triggers the airbags, more collisions are possible without the protection of airbags that may have already deployed.

Compared to metal, the 4 Series Gran Coupe’s plastic fuel tank can withstand harder, more intrusive impacts without leaking; this decreases the possibility of fire. The Genesis G80 has a metal gas tank.

The 4 Series Gran Coupe’s corrosion warranty is 5 years longer than the G80’s (12 vs. 7 years).

The M440i Gran Coupe’s standard 3.0 turbo 6-cylinder hybrid produces 7 more horsepower (382 vs. 375) than the G80’s optional 3.5 turbo V6.

On the EPA test cycle the 4 Series Gran Coupe gets better mileage than the G80:

Regenerative brakes improve the 4 Series Gran Coupe’s fuel efficiency by converting inertia back into energy instead of wasting it. The G80 doesn’t offer a regenerative braking system.

The 4 Series Gran Coupe’s standard front and rear disc brakes are vented to help dissipate heat for shorter stops with less fading. The rear discs standard on the G80 2.5T are solid, not vented.

For better traction and acceleration, the 4 Series Gran Coupe has larger standard rear tires than the G80 (255/35R19 vs. 245/50R18).

The 4 Series Gran Coupe’s standard tires provide better handling because they have a lower 45 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the G80’s standard 50 series tires.

Changing a flat tire near traffic can be dangerous and inconvenient. The run-flat tires available on the 4 Series Gran Coupe can be driven up to 50 miles without any air pressure, allowing you to drive to a service station for a repair. The G80 doesn’t offer run-flat tires.

The 4 Series Gran Coupe is 8.2 inches shorter than the G80, making the 4 Series Gran Coupe easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

The 4 Series Gran Coupe’s standard rear seats fold to accommodate long and bulky cargo. The G80 doesn’t offer folding rear seats, only a ski pass-through.

J.D. Power and Associates surveys of service recipients show that BMW service is better than Genesis. J.D. Power ranks BMW 8th in service department satisfaction (above the industry average). With a 2% lower rating, Genesis is ranked 9th.

To help drivers see further while navigating curves, the 4 Series Gran Coupe has standard adaptive headlights to illuminate around corners automatically by reading vehicle speed and steering wheel angle. The G80 doesn’t offer cornering lights.

The BMW 4 Series comes in coupe, convertible and four door hatchback bodystyles; the Genesis G80 isn’t available as a coupe or convertible.
