Safety

The Chrysler Voyager has standard driver and front passenger side knee airbags mounted low on the dashboard. These airbags helps prevent the driver and front passenger from sliding under their seatbelts or the main frontal airbags; this keeps them better positioned during a collision for maximum protection. Knee airbags also help keep the legs from striking the dashboard, preventing knee and leg injuries in the case of a serious frontal collision. The Sienna doesn’t offer a front passenger side knee airbag.

Both the Voyager and the Sienna have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, front wheel drive, height adjustable front shoulder belts, plastic fuel tanks, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, daytime running lights, rearview cameras, available crash mitigating brakes, blind spot warning systems, rear parking sensors and rear cross-path warning.

Warranty

There are almost 2 times as many Chrysler dealers as there are Toyota dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the Voyager’s warranty.

Engine

The Voyager’s standard 3.6 DOHC V6 produces 42 more horsepower (287 vs. 245) than the Sienna’s 2.5 DOHC 4-cylinder hybrid.

Fuel Economy and Range

Both the Voyager and the Sienna have a standard automatic start/stop engine feature to stop unnecessary fuel waste and pollution at stoplights and heavy traffic. All Voyagers have a standard disable switch for the system, so a driver can keep the engine from shutting off when the vehicle stops temporarily.

The Voyager has a gallon more fuel capacity than the Sienna (19 vs. 18 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups.

Suspension and Handling

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the Voyager’s wheelbase is 1.1 inches longer than on the Sienna (121.6 inches vs. 120.5 inches).

Chassis

The Chrysler Voyager may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 300 to 400 pounds less than the Toyota Sienna.

The Voyager uses computer-generated active noise cancellation to help remove annoying noise and vibration from the passenger compartment, especially at low frequencies. The Sienna doesn’t offer active noise cancellation.

Passenger Space

The Voyager has 2.6 cubic feet more passenger volume than the Sienna (165.1 vs. 162.5).

The Voyager has 2 inches more front headroom, .8 inches more front legroom, 1.4 inches more front shoulder room, .3 inches more rear headroom, .3 inches more rear shoulder room, 1.3 inches more third row headroom, .7 inches more third row hip room and 2.7 inches more third row shoulder room than the Sienna.

Cargo Capacity

The Voyager’s cargo area provides more volume than the Sienna.

The Sienna’s spare tire is stored in the cargo area, where it diminishes the useable cargo capacity and interferes with loading and unloading. The Voyager’s spare is out of the way under the trunk floor.

The Voyager has standard Stow ’n Go second and third row seats, which fold flat into the floor. This completely clears a very large cargo area quickly. The Sienna only has a third row Split & Stow seat which folds into the floor. The Sienna’s second row seat doesn’t fold into the floor and eats up cargo room.

Towing

The Voyager’s standard towing capacity is much higher than the Sienna’s (3600 vs. 0 pounds).

Ergonomics

The Voyager has a standard remote vehicle starting system, so the vehicle can be started from inside the driver's house. This allows the driver to comfortably warm up the engine before going out to the vehicle. The Sienna doesn’t offer a remote starting system.

The Voyager’s instruments include an oil pressure gauge and a temperature gauge - which could save your engine! Often ‘idiot lights’ don’t warn you until damage has been done. The Sienna does not have an oil pressure gauge.

The Voyager has a standard heated steering wheel to take the chill out of steering on extremely cold winter days before the vehicle heater warms up. A heated steering wheel is only available on the Sienna Platinum.

Recommendations

The Voyager was chosen as one of Car and Driver’s “Top Five/10Best Trucks” for 3 of the last 5 years. The Sienna has never been a Car and Driver “Top Five/10Best Truck” pick.
