The Chrysler Voyager has standard driver and front passenger side knee airbags mounted low on the dashboard. These airbags helps prevent the driver and front passenger from sliding under their seatbelts or the main frontal airbags; this keeps them better positioned during a collision for maximum protection. Knee airbags also help keep the legs from striking the dashboard, preventing knee and leg injuries in the case of a serious frontal collision. The Sedona doesn’t offer knee airbags.

Over 200 people are killed each year when backed over by motor vehicles. The Voyager offers optional Rear Park Assist with Stop that uses rear sensors to monitor and automatically apply the brakes to prevent a rear collision. The Sedona doesn’t offer backup collision prevention brakes.

The Chrysler Voyager has Daytime Running Lights to help keep it more visible under all conditions. Canadian government studies show that driving with lights during the day reduces accidents by 11% by making vehicles more conspicuous. The Sedona doesn’t offer Daytime Running Lights.

Both the Voyager and the Sedona have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, front wheel drive, height adjustable front shoulder belts, plastic fuel tanks, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, rearview cameras, available crash mitigating brakes, blind spot warning systems, rear parking sensors and rear cross-path warning.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration does 35 MPH front crash tests on new vehicles. In this test, results indicate that the Chrysler Voyager is safer than the Kia Sedona:

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration does side impact tests on new vehicles. In this test, which crashes the vehicle into a flat barrier at 38.5 MPH and into a post at 20 MPH, results indicate that the Chrysler Voyager is safer than the Kia Sedona:

Instrumented handling tests conducted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and analysis of its dimensions indicate that the Voyager is 1.4% less likely to roll over than the Sedona.

Warranty

The Voyager’s 5 year corrosion warranty has no mileage limitations, but the corrosion warranty on the Sedona runs out after 100,000 miles.

There are over 3 times as many Chrysler dealers as there are Kia dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the Voyager’s warranty.

Reliability

To reliably power the ignition and other systems and to recharge the battery, the Voyager has a standard 180-amp alternator. The Sedona’s 150-amp alternator isn’t as powerful.

To reliably start during all conditions and help handle large electrical loads, the Voyager has a 730-amp battery. The Sedona only offers a standard 660-amp battery.

Engine

The Voyager’s 3.6 DOHC V6 produces 11 more horsepower (287 vs. 276) and 14 lbs.-ft. more torque (262 vs. 248) than the Sedona’s 3.3 DOHC V6.

Fuel Economy and Range

On the EPA test cycle the Voyager gets better fuel mileage than the Sedona (19 city/28 hwy vs. 18 city/24 hwy).

In heavy traffic or at stoplights the Voyager’s engine automatically turns off when the vehicle is stopped, saving fuel and reducing pollution. The engine is automatically restarted when the driver gets ready to move again. If the conditions warrant or the driver wishes, the system can be manually disabled at any time for the duration of a trip. The Sedona doesn’t offer an automatic engine start/stop system.

Transmission

A nine-speed automatic is standard on the Chrysler Voyager, for better acceleration and lower engine speed on the highway. Only an eight-speed automatic is available for the Sedona.

Brakes and Stopping

For better stopping power the Voyager’s brake rotors are larger than those on the Sedona:

Suspension and Handling

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the Voyager’s wheelbase is 1.1 inches longer than on the Sedona (121.6 inches vs. 120.5 inches).

The Voyager’s front to rear weight distribution is more even (55% to 45%) than the Sedona’s (57% to 43%). This gives the Voyager more stable handling and braking.

Chassis

The Voyager uses computer-generated active noise cancellation to help remove annoying noise and vibration from the passenger compartment, especially at low frequencies. The Sedona doesn’t offer active noise cancellation.

Passenger Space

The Voyager has .3 inches more front headroom, .2 inches more front legroom, .2 inches more rear headroom, 1.7 inches more third row legroom and 1.8 inches more third row shoulder room than the Sedona.

Cargo Capacity

The Voyager’s cargo area provides more volume than the Sedona.

A low lift-over cargo hatch design makes loading and unloading the Voyager easier. The Voyager’s cargo hatch lift-over height is 24.3 inches, while the Sedona’s liftover is 26 inches.

The Voyager has standard Stow ’n Go second and third row seats, which fold flat into the floor. This completely clears a very large cargo area quickly. The Sedona only has a third row Sinking Seat which folds into the floor. The Sedona’s second row seat doesn’t fold into the floor and eats up cargo room.

Towing

The Voyager’s standard towing capacity is much higher than the Sedona’s (3600 vs. 3500 pounds).

Ergonomics

The Voyager’s instruments include an oil pressure gauge and a temperature gauge - which could save your engine! Often ‘idiot lights’ don’t warn you until damage has been done. The Sedona does not have an oil pressure gauge.

The Voyager’s power parking brake sets with one touch and releases with one touch or automatically. The Sedona’s parking brake has to released manually.

The Voyager’s front power windows lower with one touch of the switches, making it more convenient at drive-up windows and toll booths, or when talking with someone outside of the car. The Sedona’s standard power windows’ passenger windows don’t open automatically.

The Voyager’s standard outside mirrors include heating elements to clear off the mirrors for better visibility. Heated mirrors cost extra on the Sedona and aren’t offered on the Sedona LX.

The Voyager has a standard heated steering wheel to take the chill out of steering on extremely cold winter days before the vehicle heater warms up. A heated steering wheel costs extra on the Sedona.

The Voyager has a standard dual zone air conditioning allows the driver and front passenger to choose two completely different temperatures so people with different temperature preferences won’t have to compromise. This makes both the driver and front passenger as comfortable as possible. Dual zone air conditioning is only available on the Sedona EX/SX.
