Compare the2022 Chrysler 300VS 2021 Alfa Romeo Giulia

For enhanced safety, the front seat shoulder belts of the Chrysler 300 are height-adjustable to accommodate a wide variety of driver and passenger heights. A better fit can prevent injuries and the increased comfort also encourages passengers to buckle up. The Alfa Romeo Giulia doesn’t offer height-adjustable seat belts.

The 300 has standard Active Head Restraints, which use a specially designed headrest to protect the driver and front passenger from whiplash. During a rear-end collision, the Active Head Restraints system moves the headrests forward to prevent neck and spine injuries. The Giulia doesn’t offer a whiplash protection system.

Both the 300 and the Giulia have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, daytime running lights, rearview cameras, available all wheel drive, crash mitigating brakes, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rear parking sensors and rear cross-path warning.

Chrysler’s powertrain warranty covers the 300 1 year and 10,000 miles longer than Alfa Romeo covers the Giulia. Any repair needed on the engine, transmission, axles, joints or driveshafts is fully covered for 5 years or 60,000 miles. Coverage on the Giulia ends after only 4 years or 50,000 miles.

There are almost 17 times as many Chrysler dealers as there are Alfa Romeo dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the 300’s warranty.

A reliable vehicle saves its owner time, money and trouble. Nobody wants to be stranded or have to be without a vehicle while it’s being repaired. Consumer Reports rates the 300’s reliability 60 points higher than the Giulia.

J.D. Power and Associates rated the 300 second among large cars in their 2021 Initial Quality Study. The Giulia isn’t in the top three in its category.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2021 survey of the owners of three-year-old vehicles provides the long-term dependability statistics that show that Chrysler vehicles are more reliable than Alfa Romeo vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Chrysler 29th in reliability. With 30 more problems per 100 vehicles, Alfa Romeo is ranked 32nd.

From surveys of all its subscribers, Consumer Reports’ January 2021 Auto Issue reports that Chrysler vehicles are more reliable than Alfa Romeo vehicles. Consumer Reports ranks Chrysler 10 places higher in reliability than Alfa Romeo.

The 300’s standard 3.6 DOHC V6 produces 12 more horsepower (292 vs. 280) than the Giulia’s 2.0 turbo 4-cylinder. The 300S’ standard 3.6 DOHC V6 produces 20 more horsepower (300 vs. 280) than the Giulia’s 2.0 turbo 4-cylinder. The 300’s optional 5.7 V8 produces 83 more horsepower (363 vs. 280) and 88 lbs.-ft. more torque (394 vs. 306) than the Giulia’s 2.0 turbo 4-cylinder.

As tested in Consumer Reports the Chrysler 300 V8 is faster than the Alfa Romeo Giulia:

An engine control system that can shut down some of the engine’s cylinders helps improve the 300 V8’s fuel efficiency. The Giulia doesn’t offer a system that can shut down part of the engine.

To lower fuel costs and make buying fuel easier, the Chrysler 300 uses regular unleaded gasoline (mid-grade octane recommended with the 5.7 V8 engine for maximum performance). The Giulia requires premium for maximum efficiency, which can cost 5 to 40 cents more per gallon.

The 300 has 3.2 gallons more fuel capacity than the Giulia (18.5 vs. 15.3 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups.

The 300 has a standard cap-less fueling system. The fuel filler is automatically opened when the fuel nozzle is inserted and automatically closed when it’s removed. This eliminates the need to unscrew and replace the cap and it reduces fuel evaporation, which causes pollution. The Giulia doesn’t offer a cap-less fueling system.

For better stopping power the 300 V8/AWD’s brake rotors are larger than those on the Giulia:

The 300 V8/AWD’s standard front and rear disc brakes are vented to help dissipate heat for shorter stops with less fading. The rear discs on the Giulia are solid, not vented.

The 300 stops much shorter than the Giulia:

For better traction, the 300’s optional tires are larger than the largest tires available on the Giulia (245/45R20 vs. 225/40R19).

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the 300 offers optional 20-inch wheels. The Giulia’s largest wheels are only 19-inches.

The 300 has a standard space-saver spare tire so you can replace a flat tire and drive to have the flat repaired or replaced. A spare tire isn’t available on the Giulia; it requires you to depend on its run-flat tires, which limits mileage and speed before they are repaired. If a run-flat is damaged beyond repair by a road hazard your vehicle will have to be towed.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the 300’s wheelbase is 9 inches longer than on the Giulia (120 inches vs. 111 inches).

For better handling and stability, the track (width between the wheels) on the 300 is 2.1 inches wider in the front than on the Giulia.

The 300S handles at .85 G’s, while the Giulia Ti Q4 pulls only .80 G’s of cornering force in a Motor Trend skidpad test.

The 300S executes Motor Trend’s “Figure Eight” maneuver quicker than the Giulia Ti (26.7 seconds @ .66 average G’s vs. 27.1 seconds @ .66 average G’s).

As tested by Car and Driver while at idle, the interior of the 300S is quieter than the Giulia Ti (39 vs. 41 dB).

Because it has more passenger and cargo room, the EPA rates the 300 a Large car, while the Giulia is rated a Mid-size.

The 300 has 10.9 cubic feet more passenger volume than the Giulia (106.3 vs. 95.4).

The 300 has .8 inches more front hip room, 3.4 inches more front shoulder room, .3 inches more rear headroom, 5 inches more rear legroom, 2.4 inches more rear hip room and 4.1 inches more rear shoulder room than the Giulia.

The 300 has a much larger trunk than the Giulia (16.3 vs. 12 cubic feet).

The 300 has a 1000 lbs. towing capacity. The Giulia has no towing capacity.

Standard Trailer Sway Mitigation on the 300 uses the Electronic Stability Control sensors to detect trailer sway, then uses individual brakes to counteract any swaying and help keep the tow vehicle and trailer steady. The Giulia doesn’t offer electronic trailer sway control.

On a hot day the 300’s driver can lower the front windows from a distance using the keyless remote. The driver of the Giulia can only operate the windows from inside the vehicle, with the ignition on.

Heated windshield washer nozzles are standard on the 300 to prevent washer fluid and nozzles from freezing and help continue to keep the windshield clear in sub-freezing temperatures. Heated windshield washer nozzles cost extra on the Giulia.

A power rear sunshade is optional in the 300 Touring L/S to help block heat and glare for the rear passengers. The Giulia doesn’t offer a rear sunshade.

When the 300 Touring L/S with available tilt-down mirrors is put in reverse, both rearview mirrors tilt from their original position. This gives the driver a better view of the curb during parallel parking maneuvers. Shifting out of reverse puts the mirrors into their original positions. The Giulia’s mirrors don’t automatically adjust for backing.

Optional air-conditioned seats in the 300 Touring L/S keep the driver and front passenger comfortable and take the sting out of hot seats in Summer. The Giulia doesn’t offer air-conditioned seats.

Insurance will cost less for the 300 owner. The Complete Car Cost Guide estimates that insurance for the 300 will cost $1675 to $7560 less than the Giulia over a five-year period.

IntelliChoice estimates that five-year ownership costs (depreciation, financing, insurance, fuel, fees, repairs and maintenance) for the Chrysler 300 will be $9414 to $10012 less than for the Alfa Romeo Giulia.
