Compare the2022 Dodge ChargerVS 2022 Cadillac CT4

For enhanced safety, the front seat shoulder belts of the Dodge Charger are height-adjustable to accommodate a wide variety of driver and passenger heights. A better fit can prevent injuries and the increased comfort also encourages passengers to buckle up. The Cadillac CT4 doesn’t offer height-adjustable seat belts.

Both the Charger and the CT4 have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, plastic fuel tanks, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, daytime running lights, rearview cameras, available crash mitigating brakes, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems and rear cross-path warning.

There are almost 3 times as many Dodge dealers as there are Cadillac dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the Charger’s warranty.

A reliable vehicle saves its owner time, money and trouble. Nobody wants to be stranded or have to be without a vehicle while it’s being repaired. Consumer Reports rates the Charger’s reliability 42 points higher than the CT4.

J.D. Power and Associates rated the Charger third among large cars in their 2021 Initial Quality Study. The CT4 isn’t in the top three in its category.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2021 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Dodge vehicles are better in initial quality than Cadillac vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Dodge second in initial quality, above the industry average. With 34 more problems per 100 vehicles, Cadillac is ranked 22nd, below the industry average.

From surveys of all its subscribers, Consumer Reports’ January 2021 Auto Issue reports that Dodge vehicles are more reliable than Cadillac vehicles. Consumer Reports ranks Dodge 11 places higher in reliability than Cadillac.

The Charger has more powerful engines than the CT4:

As tested in Motor Trend the Charger Scat Pack 6.4 V8 is faster than the Cadillac CT4 2.7 turbo 4-cylinder:

The Charger has 1.5 gallons more fuel capacity than the CT4 (18.5 vs. 17 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups.

The Charger Scat Pack’s launch control uses engine electronics to hold engine RPM’s precisely in order to provide the most stable and rapid acceleration possible, using all of the available traction. The CT4 doesn’t offer launch control.

For better traction, the Charger Scat Pack Widebody’s tires are larger than the largest tires available on the CT4 (305/35R20 vs. 235/40R18).

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the Charger R/T has standard 20-inch wheels. The CT4’s largest wheels are only 19-inches.

The Charger has a standard space-saver spare (not available on R/T/Scat Pack) so you can replace a flat tire and drive to have the flat repaired or replaced. A spare tire isn’t available on the CT4; it requires you to depend on its run-flat tires, which limits mileage and speed before they are repaired. If a run-flat is damaged beyond repair by a road hazard your vehicle will have to be towed. Some tire options on the CT4 don’t have a run-flat feature, either.

The Charger offers an available driver-adjustable suspension system. It allows the driver to choose between an extra-supple ride, reducing fatigue on long trips, or a sport setting, which allows maximum control for tricky roads. The CT4’s suspension doesn’t offer adjustable shock absorbers.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the Charger’s wheelbase is 10.9 inches longer than on the CT4 (120.2 inches vs. 109.3 inches).

For better handling and stability, the average track (width between the wheels) on the Charger is 3.8 inches wider in the front and 2.3 inches wider in the rear than the track on the CT4.

The Charger Scat Pack handles at .92 G’s, while the CT4 Premium Luxury AWD pulls only .83 G’s of cornering force in a Motor Trend skidpad test.

The Charger Scat Pack executes Motor Trend’s “Figure Eight” maneuver 1.2 seconds quicker than the CT4 Premium Luxury AWD (25.3 seconds @ .8 average G’s vs. 26.5 seconds @ .67 average G’s).

Because it has more passenger and cargo room, the EPA rates the Charger a Large car, while the CT4 is rated a Compact.

The Charger has 14.7 cubic feet more passenger volume than the CT4 (104.7 vs. 90).

The Charger has .3 inches more front headroom, 3.2 inches more front hip room, 4.3 inches more front shoulder room, .1 inches more rear headroom, 6.7 inches more rear legroom, 3.6 inches more rear hip room and 4 inches more rear shoulder room than the CT4.

The Charger has a much larger trunk than the CT4 (16.5 vs. 10.7 cubic feet).

Standard Trailer Sway Damping on the Charger uses the Electronic Stability Control sensors to detect trailer sway, then uses individual brakes to counteract any swaying and help keep the tow vehicle and trailer steady. The CT4 doesn’t offer electronic trailer sway control.

The Charger uses gas struts to support the hood for easier service access. The CT4 uses a prop rod to support its heavy hood. It takes two hands to open the hood and set the prop rod, the prop rod gets in the way during maintenance and service, and the prop rod could be knocked out, causing the heavy hood to fall on the person maintaining or servicing the car.

The Charger’s instruments include an oil pressure gauge and a temperature gauge - which could save your engine! Often ‘idiot lights’ don’t warn you until damage has been done. The CT4 does not have an oil pressure gauge.

The Charger has a standard locking fuel door with a remote release located convenient to the driver. A locking fuel door helps prevent fuel theft and vandalism, such as sugar in the tank. The CT4 doesn’t offer a locking fuel door.

The Charger’s standard speed-sensitive wipers speed up when the vehicle does, so that the driver doesn’t have to continually adjust the speed of the wipers. The CT4’s standard manually variable intermittent wipers have to be constantly adjusted.

Heated windshield washer nozzles are standard on the Charger to prevent washer fluid and nozzles from freezing and help continue to keep the windshield clear in sub-freezing temperatures. The CT4 doesn’t offer heated windshield washer nozzles.

Both the Charger and the CT4 offer optional heated front seats. The Charger also offers optional heated rear seats to keep those passengers extremely comfortable in the winter. Heated rear seats aren’t available in the CT4.

The Charger will cost the buyer less in the long run because of its superior resale value. The IntelliChoice estimates that the Charger will retain 44.89% to 48.58% of its original price after five years, while the CT4 only retains 37.94% to 39.96%.

IntelliChoice estimates that five-year ownership costs (depreciation, financing, insurance, fuel, fees, repairs and maintenance) for the Dodge Charger will be $3866 to $8412 less than for the Cadillac CT4.
