The Challenger has standard Active Head Restraints, which use a specially designed headrest to protect the driver and front passenger from whiplash. During a rear-end collision, the Active Head Restraints system moves the headrests forward to prevent neck and spine injuries. The Corvette doesn’t offer a whiplash protection system.

The Challenger (except Redeye/Super Stock/Manual) offers an optional collision warning system, which detects an impending crash through forward mounted sensors and flashes a bright light and sounds a loud, distinctive tone to warn the driver to brake or maneuver immediately to avoid a collision. The system also pre-charges the brakes to begin deceleration more quickly. The Corvette doesn't offer a collision warning system.

The Challenger offers all-wheel drive to maximize traction under poor conditions, especially in ice and snow. The Corvette doesn’t offer all-wheel drive.

Both the Challenger and the Corvette have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, daytime running lights, rearview cameras, available blind spot warning systems, rear parking sensors and rear cross-path warning.

The Challenger’s corrosion warranty is unlimited miles longer than the Corvette’s (unlimited vs. 100,000 miles).

A reliable vehicle saves its owner time, money and trouble. Nobody wants to be stranded or have to be without a vehicle while it’s being repaired. Consumer Reports rates the Challenger’s reliability 61 points higher than the Corvette.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2021 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Dodge vehicles are better in initial quality than Chevrolet vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Dodge second in initial quality, above the industry average. With 12 more problems per 100 vehicles, Chevrolet is ranked 10th.

From surveys of all its subscribers, Consumer Reports’ January 2021 Auto Issue reports that Dodge vehicles are more reliable than Chevrolet vehicles. Consumer Reports ranks Dodge 7 places higher in reliability than Chevrolet.

The Challenger has more powerful engines than the Corvette:

All wheel drive, available in the Challenger, provides the best traction for acceleration in wet, dry, and icy conditions. In corners, all wheel drive allows both outside wheels to provide power, balancing the car. This allows for better handling. The Chevrolet Corvette is not available with all wheel drive.

For better stopping power the Challenger Hellcat/Redeye’s front brake rotors are larger than those on the Corvette:

The Challenger Hellcat/Redeye’s brakes have 16% more swept area (the area covered by the brake pads) than the Corvette (740 vs. 640 square inches).

For better traction, the Challenger SRT Super Stock’s tires are larger than the largest tires available on the Corvette (315/40R18 vs. 245/35R19).

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the Challenger offers optional 20-inch wheels. The Corvette’s largest wheels are only 19-inches in the front and 20-inches in the rear.

The Challenger has a standard space-saver spare (not available on R/T Scat Pack/Hellcat/Super Stock) so you can replace a flat tire and drive to have the flat repaired or replaced. A spare tire isn’t available on the Corvette; it requires you to depend on its run-flat tires, which limits mileage and speed before they are repaired. If a run-flat is damaged beyond repair by a road hazard your vehicle will have to be towed.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the Challenger’s wheelbase is 8.8 inches longer than on the Corvette (116 inches vs. 107.2 inches).

For better handling and stability, the average track (width between the wheels) on the Challenger is 2 inches wider in the rear than the track on the Corvette.

The Challenger’s front to rear weight distribution is more even (52% to 48%) than the Corvette’s (40% to 60%). This gives the Challenger more stable handling and braking.

To almost totally eliminate engine vibration in the passenger area, the Challenger has liquid-filled engine mounts. The liquid helps further dampen engine harshness. The Corvette uses conventional solid rubber engine mounts.

As tested by Car and Driver while under full throttle, the interior of the Challenger Scat Pack is quieter than the Corvette Coupe (85 vs. 92 dB).

The Challenger has standard seating for 5 passengers; the Corvette can only carry 2.

The Challenger has 42.7 cubic feet more passenger volume than the Corvette (93.7 vs. 51).

The Challenger has 1.4 inches more front headroom, 3.3 inches more front hip room and 4.1 inches more front shoulder room than the Corvette.

The Challenger has a much larger trunk than the Corvette Coupe (16.2 vs. 12.6 cubic feet).

A low lift-over trunk design makes loading and unloading the Challenger easier. The Challenger’s trunk lift-over height is 33.2 inches, while the Corvette’s liftover is 38.7 inches.

The Challenger has a 1000 lbs. towing capacity. The Corvette has no towing capacity.

The Challenger’s standard speed-sensitive wipers speed up when the vehicle does, so that the driver doesn’t have to continually adjust the speed of the wipers. The Corvette’s manually variable intermittent wipers have to be constantly adjusted. The Challenger’s optional wipers adjust their speed and turn on and off automatically according to the amount of rainfall on the windshield.

While driving with high beams on, sensitive light sensors available for the Challenger detect other vehicles which could be blinded and automatically switch to low beams. The Corvette doesn’t offer automatic dimming high beams.

To keep a safe, consistent following distance, the Challenger (except Redeye/Super Stock/Manual) offers an optional Adaptive Cruise Control, which alters the speed of the vehicle without driver intervention. This allows the driver to use cruise control more safely without constantly having to disengage it when approaching slower traffic. The Corvette doesn’t offer an adaptive cruise control.

Insurance will cost less for the Challenger owner. The Car Book by Jack Gillis rates the Challenger with a number “1” insurance rate while the Corvette is rated higher at a number “10” rate.

According to The Car Book by Jack Gillis, the Challenger is less expensive to operate than the Corvette because it costs $655 less to do the manufacturer’s suggested maintenance for 50,000 miles. Typical repairs cost much less on the Challenger than the Corvette, including $35 less for a water pump, $433 less for a muffler, $82 less for a starter, $327 less for fuel injection and $648 less for a timing belt/chain.

Consumer Reports® recommends the Dodge Challenger, based on reliability, safety and performance. The Chevrolet Corvette isn't recommended.
