The Yukon (except SLE with front bench seat) has a standard front seat center airbag, which deploys between the driver and front passenger, protecting them from injuries caused by striking each other in serious side impacts. The Wagoneer doesn’t offer front seat center airbags.

Both the Yukon and the Wagoneer have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, plastic fuel tanks, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, rearview cameras, available all wheel drive, blind spot warning systems, around view monitors and rear cross-path warning.

The Yukon’s corrosion warranty is 1 year longer than the Wagoneer’s (6 vs. 5 years).

To reliably start during all conditions and help handle large electrical loads, the Yukon has a standard 800-amp battery (900 Diesel). The Wagoneer’s 730-amp battery isn’t as powerful.

From surveys of all its subscribers, Consumer Reports’ January 2021 Auto Issue reports that GMC vehicles are more reliable than Jeep vehicles. Consumer Reports ranks GMC 3 places higher in reliability than Jeep.

The Yukon’s optional 6.2 V8 produces 5 lbs.-ft. more torque (460 vs. 455) than the Grand Wagoneer’s standard 6.4 V8.

The Yukon’s 3.0 turbo diesel produces 56 lbs.-ft. more torque (460 vs. 404) than the Wagoneer’s standard 5.7 V8 hybrid. The Yukon’s 3.0 turbo diesel produces 5 lbs.-ft. more torque (460 vs. 455) than the Grand Wagoneer’s standard 6.4 V8.

To lower fuel costs and make buying fuel easier, the GMC Yukon uses regular unleaded gasoline (premium recommended with the 6.2 V8 engine for maximum performance). The Grand Wagoneer requires premium, which can cost 20 to 55 cents more per gallon.

A 10-speed automatic is standard on the GMC Yukon, for better acceleration and lower engine speed on the highway. Only an eight-speed automatic is available for the Wagoneer.

The Yukon’s standard front and rear disc brakes are vented to help dissipate heat for shorter stops with less fading. The rear discs on the Wagoneer are solid, not vented.

The Yukon has a standard full size spare tire so a flat doesn’t interrupt your trip. A full size spare isn’t available on the Wagoneer; it requires you to depend on a temporary spare, which limits mileage and speed before replacement.

The GMC Yukon may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 450 to 500 pounds less than the Jeep Wagoneer.

The Yukon is 4.7 inches shorter than the Wagoneer, making the Yukon easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

The Yukon offers optional seating for 9 passengers; the Wagoneer can only carry up to 8.

The Yukon’s front and rear power windows all lower with one touch of the switches, making it more convenient at drive-up windows and toll booths, or when talking with someone outside of the car. The Wagoneer’s standard power windows’ rear power window switches have to be held the entire time to open them fully.

On a hot day the Yukon’s driver can lower all the windows from a distance using the keyless remote. The driver of the Wagoneer can only operate the windows from inside the vehicle, with the ignition on.
