The Tahoe (except LS with front bench seats) has a standard front seat center airbag, which deploys between the driver and front passenger, protecting them from injuries caused by striking each other in serious side impacts. The QX80 doesn’t offer front seat center airbags.

When descending a steep, off-road slope, the Tahoe Z71/Premier 4WD/High Country 4WD’s standard Hill Descent Control allows you to creep down safely. The QX80 doesn’t offer Hill Descent Control.

Both the Tahoe and the QX80 have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, plastic fuel tanks, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, rearview cameras, available all wheel drive, blind spot warning systems, around view monitors and rear cross-path warning.

There are over 14 times as many Chevrolet dealers as there are Infiniti dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the Tahoe’s warranty.

The Tahoe has a standard “limp home system” to keep drivers from being stranded if most or all of the engine’s coolant is lost. The engine will run on only half of its cylinders at a time, reduce its power and light a warning lamp on the dashboard so the driver can get to a service station for repairs. The QX80 doesn’t offer a lost coolant limp home mode, so a coolant leak could strand you or seriously damage the truck’s engine.

To reliably power the ignition and other systems and to recharge the battery, the Tahoe has a standard 220-amp alternator (250-amp - Tahoe Diesel). The QX80’s 150-amp alternator isn’t as powerful.

To reliably start during all conditions and help handle large electrical loads, the Tahoe has a standard 800-amp battery (900 Diesel). The QX80’s 780-amp battery isn’t as powerful.

J.D. Power and Associates rated the Tahoe second among large suvs in their 2021 Initial Quality Study. The QX80 isn’t in the top three in its category.

J.D. Power ranks Chevrolet 12th in reliability, above the industry average. With 22 more problems per 100 vehicles, Infiniti is ranked 23rd.

The Tahoe’s optional 6.2 V8 produces 20 more horsepower (420 vs. 400) and 47 lbs.-ft. more torque (460 vs. 413) than the QX80’s 5.6 DOHC V8.

On the EPA test cycle the Tahoe gets better mileage than the QX80:

An engine control system that can shut down some of the engine’s cylinders helps improve the Tahoe V8’s fuel efficiency. The QX80 doesn’t offer a system that can shut down part of the engine.

In heavy traffic or at stop lights the Tahoe Diesel’s engine automatically turns off when the vehicle is stopped, saving fuel and reducing pollution. The engine is automatically restarted when the driver gets ready to move again. If the conditions warrant or the driver wishes, the system can be manually disabled at any time for the duration of a trip. The QX80 doesn’t offer an automatic engine start/stop system.

The Tahoe has a standard cap-less fueling system. The fuel filler is automatically opened when the fuel nozzle is inserted and automatically closed when it’s removed. This eliminates the need to unscrew and replace the cap and it reduces fuel evaporation, which causes pollution. The QX80 doesn’t offer a cap-less fueling system.

A 10-speed automatic is standard on the Chevrolet Tahoe, for better acceleration and lower engine speed on the highway. Only a seven-speed automatic is available for the QX80.

The Tahoe has a standard easy tire fill system. When inflating the tires, the vehicle’s integrated tire pressure sensors keep track of the pressure as the tires fill and tell the driver when the tires are inflated to the proper pressure. The QX80 doesn’t offer vehicle monitored tire inflation.

The Tahoe offers an optional driver-adjustable suspension system. It allows the driver to choose between an extra-supple ride, reducing fatigue on long trips, or a sport setting, which allows maximum control for tricky roads or off-road. The QX80’s suspension doesn’t offer adjustable shock absorbers.

For better maneuverability, the Tahoe’s turning circle is 3.2 feet tighter than the QX80’s (38.1 feet vs. 41.3 feet). The Tahoe’s turning circle is 1.6 feet tighter than the QX80’s (39.7 feet vs. 41.3 feet).

For greater off-road capability the Tahoe Z71 Air Ride has a greater minimum ground clearance than the QX80 (10 vs. 9.2 inches), allowing the Tahoe to travel over rougher terrain without being stopped or damaged.

The Chevrolet Tahoe may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs up to about 200 pounds less than the Infiniti QX80.

The front grille of the Tahoe (except Diesel) uses electronically controlled shutters to close off airflow and reduce drag when less engine cooling is needed. This helps improve highway fuel economy. The QX80 doesn’t offer active grille shutters.

The Tahoe offers optional seating for 9 passengers; the QX80 can only carry up to 8.

To make loading groceries and cargo easier when your hands are full, the Tahoe’s liftgate can be opened and closed just by kicking your foot under the back bumper, leaving your hands completely free. The QX80 doesn’t offer a hands-free gesture to open its liftgate, forcing you to put cargo down if your hands are full.

The Tahoe 4WD with optional equipment can be flat towed on all four wheels (dinghy towed), allowing recreational vehicle owners to bring it with them on the road. When they reach their destination, the Tahoe can be unhitched and driven around locally. The QX80 can’t be towed flat on the ground.

The Tahoe (except LS/LT/RST/Z71) offers an available heads-up display that projects speed, warning and navigation instruction readouts in front of the driver’s line of sight, allowing drivers to view information without diverting their eyes from the road. The QX80 doesn’t offer a heads-up display.

The Tahoe’s power parking brake sets with one touch and releases with one touch or automatically. The QX80’s parking brake has to released manually.

The power windows standard on both the Tahoe and the QX80 have locks to prevent small children from operating them. When the lock on the Tahoe is engaged the driver can still operate all of the windows, for instance to close one opened by a child. The QX80 prevents the driver from operating the other windows just as it does the other passengers.

To quickly and conveniently keep personal devices charged without cables tangling and wearing out, the Chevrolet Tahoe LT/RST/Z71/Premier/High Country has a standard wireless phone charging system (Qi) in the center console. The QX80 doesn’t offer wireless personal charging.

According to The Car Book by Jack Gillis, the Tahoe is less expensive to operate than the QX80 because typical repairs cost much less on the Tahoe than the QX80, including $159 less for a starter, $17 less for front struts, $50 less for a timing belt/chain and $755 less for a power steering pump.
