The Suburban (except LS with front bench seat) has a standard front seat center airbag, which deploys between the driver and front passenger, protecting them from injuries caused by striking each other in serious side impacts. The Wagoneer doesn’t offer front seat center airbags.

Both the Suburban and the Wagoneer have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, plastic fuel tanks, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, rearview cameras, available all wheel drive, blind spot warning systems, around view monitors and rear cross-path warning.

The Suburban’s corrosion warranty is 1 year longer than the Wagoneer’s (6 vs. 5 years).

There are over 22 percent more Chevrolet dealers than there are Jeep dealers, which makes it easier should you ever need service under the Suburban’s warranty.

The Suburban has a standard “limp home system” to keep drivers from being stranded if most or all of the engine’s coolant is lost. The engine will run on only half of its cylinders at a time, reduce its power and light a warning lamp on the dashboard so the driver can get to a service station for repairs. The Wagoneer doesn’t offer a lost coolant limp home mode, so a coolant leak could strand you or seriously damage the truck’s engine.

To reliably start during all conditions and help handle large electrical loads, the Suburban has a standard 800-amp battery (900 Diesel). The Wagoneer’s 730-amp battery isn’t as powerful.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2021 survey of the owners of three-year-old vehicles provides the long-term dependability statistics that show that Chevrolet vehicles are more reliable than Jeep vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Chevrolet 12th in reliability, above the industry average. With 26 more problems per 100 vehicles, Jeep is ranked 24th.

From surveys of all its subscribers, Consumer Reports’ January 2021 Auto Issue reports that Chevrolet vehicles are more reliable than Jeep vehicles. Consumer Reports ranks Chevrolet 2 places higher in reliability than Jeep.

The Suburban’s optional 6.2 V8 produces 5 lbs.-ft. more torque (460 vs. 455) than the Grand Wagoneer’s standard 6.4 V8.

The Suburban’s 3.0 turbo diesel produces 56 lbs.-ft. more torque (460 vs. 404) than the Wagoneer’s standard 5.7 V8 hybrid. The Suburban’s 3.0 turbo diesel produces 5 lbs.-ft. more torque (460 vs. 455) than the Grand Wagoneer’s standard 6.4 V8.

On the EPA test cycle the Suburban gets better mileage than the Wagoneer:

To lower fuel costs and make buying fuel easier, the Chevrolet Suburban uses regular unleaded gasoline (premium recommended with the 6.2 V8 engine for maximum performance). The Wagoneer requires premium, which can cost 20 to 55 cents more per gallon.

The Suburban has 1.8 gallons more fuel capacity than the Wagoneer (28.3 vs. 26.5 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups.

A 10-speed automatic is standard on the Chevrolet Suburban, for better acceleration and lower engine speed on the highway. Only an eight-speed automatic is available for the Wagoneer.

The Suburban’s standard front and rear disc brakes are vented to help dissipate heat for shorter stops with less fading. The rear discs on the Wagoneer are solid, not vented.

The Suburban has a standard full size spare tire so a flat doesn’t interrupt your trip. A full size spare isn’t available on the Wagoneer; it requires you to depend on a temporary spare, which limits mileage and speed before replacement.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the Suburban’s wheelbase is 11.1 inches longer than on the Wagoneer (134.1 inches vs. 123 inches).

The Chevrolet Suburban may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 350 pounds less than the Jeep Wagoneer.

The Suburban offers optional seating for 9 passengers; the Wagoneer can only carry up to 8.

On a hot day the Suburban’s driver can lower all the windows from a distance using the keyless remote. The driver of the Wagoneer can only operate the windows from inside the vehicle, with the ignition on.
