Compare the2022 Honda CR-VVS 2022 Toyota Corolla Cross

The CR-V’s driver alert monitor detects an inattentive driver then sounds a warning and suggests a break. According to the NHTSA, drivers who fall asleep cause about 100,000 crashes and 1500 deaths a year. The Corolla Cross doesn’t offer a driver alert monitor.

Both the CR-V and the Corolla Cross have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, front wheel drive, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, forward collision warning, collision mitigating brakes, lane departure warning systems, rearview cameras, available all wheel drive, blind spot warning systems and rear cross-path warning.

For its top level performance in IIHS driver and passenger-side small overlap frontal, moderate overlap frontal, side impact, roof strength and head restraint tests, its standard vehicle-to-vehicle front crash prevention system, its standard vehicle-to-pedestrian front crash prevention system, and its available headlight’s “Good” rating, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety grants the CR-V the rating of “Top Pick” for 2021, a rating granted to only 128 vehicles tested by the IIHS. The Corolla Cross has not been tested, yet.

The CR-V’s 1.5 turbo 4-cylinder produces 21 more horsepower (190 vs. 169) and 28 lbs.-ft. more torque (179 vs. 151) than the Corolla Cross’ 2.0 DOHC 4-cylinder.

The CR-V has 1.6 gallons more fuel capacity than the Corolla Cross FWD’s standard fuel tank (14 vs. 12.4 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups.

The CR-V has a standard cap-less fueling system. The fuel filler is automatically opened when the fuel nozzle is inserted and automatically closed when it’s removed. This eliminates the need to unscrew and replace the cap and it reduces fuel evaporation, which causes pollution. The Corolla Cross doesn’t offer a cap-less fueling system.

For better stopping power the CR-V’s brake rotors are larger than those on the Corolla Cross:

For better traction, the CR-V has larger tires than the Corolla Cross (235/65R17 vs. 215/65R17). The CR-V LX/SE’s tires are larger than the largest tires available on the Corolla Cross (235/65R17 vs. 225/55R18).

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the CR-V Touring has standard 19-inch wheels. The Corolla Cross’ largest wheels are only 18-inches.

For superior ride and handling, the Honda CR-V has fully independent front and rear suspensions. An independent suspension allows the wheels to follow the road at the best angle for gripping the pavement, without compromising ride comfort. The Corolla Cross FWD has a rear torsion beam axle, with a semi-independent rear suspension.

For greater off-road capability the CR-V has a greater minimum ground clearance than the Corolla Cross (8.2 vs. 8.1 inches), allowing the CR-V to travel over rougher terrain without being stopped or damaged.

The front grille of the CR-V uses electronically controlled shutters to close off airflow and reduce drag when less engine cooling is needed. This helps improve highway fuel economy. The Corolla Cross doesn’t offer active grille shutters.

The CR-V uses computer-generated active noise cancellation to help remove annoying noise and vibration from the passenger compartment, especially at low frequencies. The Corolla Cross doesn’t offer active noise cancellation.

The CR-V has 17.5 cubic feet more passenger volume than the Corolla Cross (105.9 vs. 94.9).

The CR-V has .6 inches more front headroom, 2.5 inches more front hip room, 5.2 inches more front shoulder room, .1 inches more rear headroom, 8.4 inches more rear legroom, 5.7 inches more rear hip room and 3.2 inches more rear shoulder room than the Corolla Cross.

For enhanced passenger comfort on long trips the CR-V’s rear seats recline. The Corolla Cross’ rear seats don’t recline.

The CR-V has a much larger cargo volume with its rear seat up than the Corolla Cross (39.2 vs. 26.5 cubic feet).

A standard locking glovebox (which can’t be accessed with the valet key) keeps your small valuables safer in the CR-V. The Corolla Cross doesn’t offer locking storage for small valuables.

To make loading groceries and cargo easier when your hands are full, the CR-V Touring’s liftgate can be opened and closed just by kicking your foot under the back bumper, leaving your hands completely free. The Corolla Cross doesn’t offer a hands-free gesture to open its liftgate, forcing you to put cargo down if your hands are full.

The CR-V SE/EX/EX-L/Touring has a standard remote vehicle starting system, so the vehicle can be started from inside the driver's house. This allows the driver to comfortably warm up the engine before going out to the vehicle. The climate system will also automatically heat or cool the interior. The Corolla Cross doesn’t offer a remote starting system.

When two different drivers share the CR-V EX-L/Touring, the memory seats make it convenient for both. Each setting activates different, customized memories for the driver’s seat position. The Corolla Cross doesn’t offer memory seats.

The CR-V EX-L/Touring’s standard easy entry system glides the driver’s seat back when the door is unlocked or the ignition is switched off, making it easier for the driver to get in and out. The Corolla Cross doesn’t offer an easy entry system.

The CR-V Touring’s standard wipers adjust their speed and turn on and off automatically according to the amount of rainfall on the windshield. The Corolla Cross LE/XLE’s manually variable intermittent wipers have to be constantly adjusted.

The CR-V has a standard automatic headlight on/off feature. When the ignition is on, the headlights automatically turn on at dusk and off after dawn. When the ignition turns off, the headlights turn off after a delay timed to allow you to securely get to your front door. The Corolla Cross has an automatic headlight on/off feature standard only on the LE/XLE.

On extremely cold winter days, the CR-V Touring’s standard heated steering wheel provides comfort, allowing the driver to steer safely and comfortably before the vehicle heater warms up. The Corolla Cross doesn’t offer a heated steering wheel.

The CR-V Touring’s standard GPS navigation system has a real-time traffic update feature that plots alternative routes to automatically bypass traffic problems. (Service not available in all areas.) The Corolla Cross doesn’t offer a navigation system.
