Both the Range Rover Evoque and Tucson Hybrid have child safety locks to prevent children from opening the rear doors. The Range Rover Evoque has power child safety locks, allowing the driver to activate and deactivate them from the driver's seat and to know when they're engaged. The Tucson Hybrid’s child locks have to be individually engaged at each rear door with a manual switch. The driver can’t know the status of the locks without opening the doors and checking them.

The Land Rover Range Rover Evoque has standard driver and front passenger side knee airbags mounted low on the dashboard. These airbags helps prevent the driver and front passenger from sliding under their seatbelts or the main frontal airbags; this keeps them better positioned during a collision for maximum protection. Knee airbags also help keep the legs from striking the dashboard, preventing knee and leg injuries in the case of a serious frontal collision. The Tucson Hybrid doesn’t offer knee airbags.

Both the Range Rover Evoque and the Tucson Hybrid have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, four-wheel antilock brakes, all wheel drive, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, rearview cameras, driver alert monitors, available blind spot warning systems, around view monitors and rear cross-path warning.

Engine

The Range Rover Evoque’s standard 2.0 turbo 4-cylinder produces 20 more horsepower (246 vs. 226) and 11 lbs.-ft. more torque (269 vs. 258) than the Tucson Hybrid’s 1.6 turbo 4-cylinder hybrid. The Range Rover Evoque R-Dynamic HST’s standard 2.0 turbo 4-cylinder produces 70 more horsepower (296 vs. 226) and 37 lbs.-ft. more torque (295 vs. 258) than the Tucson Hybrid’s 1.6 turbo 4-cylinder hybrid.

Fuel Economy and Range

The Range Rover Evoque has 4 gallons more fuel capacity than the Tucson Hybrid (17.7 vs. 13.7 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups.

Transmission

A nine-speed automatic is standard on the Land Rover Range Rover Evoque, for better acceleration and lower engine speed on the highway. Only a six-speed automatic is available for the Tucson Hybrid.

Brakes and Stopping

For better stopping power the Range Rover Evoque’s front brake rotors are larger than those on the Tucson Hybrid:

Tires and Wheels

For better traction, the Range Rover Evoque’s optional tires are larger than the largest tires available on the Tucson Hybrid (245/45R21 vs. 235/65R17).

The Range Rover Evoque’s standard tires provide better handling because they have a lower 60 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the Tucson Hybrid Blue’s standard 65 series tires. The Range Rover Evoque’s optional tires have a lower 45 series profile than the Tucson Hybrid SEL/Limited’s 55 series tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the Range Rover Evoque has standard 18-inch wheels. Smaller 17-inch wheels are standard on the Tucson Hybrid Blue. The Range Rover Evoque’s optional 21-inch wheels are larger than the 19-inch wheels on the Tucson Hybrid SEL/Limited.

The Range Rover Evoque has a standard space-saver spare tire so you can replace a flat tire and drive to have the flat repaired or replaced. A spare tire isn’t available on the Tucson Hybrid; it requires you to depend on roadside assistance and your vehicle will have to be towed.

Suspension and Handling

The Range Rover Evoque offers an optional driver-adjustable suspension system. It allows the driver to choose between an extra-supple ride, reducing fatigue on long trips, or a sport setting, which allows maximum control for tricky roads or off-road. The Tucson Hybrid’s suspension doesn’t offer adjustable shock absorbers.

The Range Rover Evoque has vehicle speed sensitive variable-assist power steering, for low-effort parking, better control at highway speeds and during hard cornering, and a better feel of the road. The Tucson Hybrid doesn’t offer variable-assist power steering.

For better maneuverability, the Range Rover Evoque’s turning circle is .8 feet tighter than the Tucson Hybrid’s (38 feet vs. 38.8 feet).

Chassis

The Range Rover Evoque is 10.2 inches shorter than the Tucson Hybrid, making the Range Rover Evoque easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

Towing

The Range Rover Evoque’s standard towing capacity is much higher than the Tucson Hybrid’s (3968 vs. 2000 pounds).

Servicing Ease

The Range Rover Evoque uses gas struts to support the hood for easier service access. The Tucson Hybrid uses a prop rod to support its heavy hood. It takes two hands to open the hood and set the prop rod, the prop rod gets in the way during maintenance and service, and the prop rod could be knocked out, causing the heavy hood to fall on the person maintaining or servicing the car.

Ergonomics

Unlike the driver-only memory seat in the Tucson Hybrid Limited, the Range Rover Evoque offers an optional driver and passenger memory, so that when drivers switch, the memory setting adjusts the driver’s seat, steering wheel position and outside mirror angle and the front passenger seat also adjusts to the new passenger’s preset preferences.

The Range Rover Evoque offers an optional heads-up display that projects speed and navigation instruction readouts in front of the driver’s line of sight, allowing drivers to view information without diverting their eyes from the road. The Tucson Hybrid doesn’t offer a heads-up display.

The Range Rover Evoque’s front and rear power windows all open or close fully with one touch of the switches, making it more convenient at drive-up windows and toll booths, or when talking with someone outside the car. The Tucson Hybrid’s rear power window switches have to be held the entire time to open or close them fully.

The Range Rover Evoque’s rain-sensitive wipers adjust their speed and turn on and off automatically based on the amount of rainfall on the windshield. This allows the driver to concentrate on driving without constantly adjusting the wipers. The Tucson Hybrid’s standard manually variable intermittent wipers have to be constantly adjusted.

Heated windshield washer nozzles are optional on the Range Rover Evoque to prevent washer fluid and nozzles from freezing and help continue to keep the windshield clear in sub-freezing temperatures. The Tucson Hybrid doesn’t offer heated windshield washer nozzles.

In poor weather, headlights can lose their effectiveness as grime builds up on their lenses. This can reduce visibility without the driver realizing. The Range Rover Evoque offers available headlight washers to keep headlight output high. The Tucson Hybrid doesn’t offer headlight washers.

When the Range Rover Evoque with available tilt-down mirrors is put in reverse, both rearview mirrors tilt from their original position. This gives the driver a better view of the curb during parallel parking maneuvers. Shifting out of reverse puts the mirrors into their original positions. The Tucson Hybrid’s mirrors don’t automatically adjust for backing.

The Range Rover Evoque’s standard rear and side view mirrors have an automatic dimming feature. These mirrors can be set to automatically darken quickly when headlights shine on them, keeping following vehicles from blinding or distracting the driver. The Tucson Hybrid offers an automatic rear view mirror, but its side mirrors don’t dim.

The Range Rover Evoque has a standard dual zone air conditioning allows the driver and front passenger to choose two completely different temperatures so people with different temperature preferences won’t have to compromise. This makes both the driver and front passenger as comfortable as possible. Dual zone air conditioning is only available on the Tucson Hybrid SEL Convenience/Limited.

To quickly and conveniently keep personal devices charged without cables tangling and wearing out, the Land Rover Range Rover Evoque has a standard wireless phone charging system (Qi) in the center console. Only the Tucson Hybrid SEL Convenience/Limited offers wireless charging.
