The Range Rover Evoque has power child safety locks, allowing the driver to activate and deactivate them from the driver's seat and to know when they're engaged. The Equinox’s child locks have to be individually engaged at each rear door with a manual switch. The driver can’t know the status of the locks without opening the doors and checking them.

The Land Rover Range Rover Evoque has standard driver and front passenger side knee airbags mounted low on the dashboard. These airbags helps prevent the driver and front passenger from sliding under their seatbelts or the main frontal airbags; this keeps them better positioned during a collision for maximum protection. Knee airbags also help keep the legs from striking the dashboard, preventing knee and leg injuries in the case of a serious frontal collision. The Equinox doesn’t offer knee airbags.

To provide maximum traction and stability on all roads, All-Wheel Drive is standard on the Range Rover Evoque. But it costs extra on the Equinox.

When descending a steep, off-road slope, the Range Rover Evoque’s standard Hill Descent Control allows you to creep down safely. The Equinox doesn’t offer Hill Descent Control.

The Range Rover Evoque’s driver alert monitor detects an inattentive driver then sounds a warning and suggests a break. According to the NHTSA, drivers who fall asleep cause about 100,000 crashes and 1500 deaths a year. The Equinox doesn’t offer a driver alert monitor.

Both the Range Rover Evoque and the Equinox have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, rearview cameras, available blind spot warning systems, around view monitors and rear cross-path warning.

The Land Rover Range Rover Evoque weighs 423 to 801 pounds more than the Chevrolet Equinox. The NHTSA advises that heavier vehicles are much safer in collisions than their significantly lighter counterparts.

The Range Rover Evoque comes with a full 4-year/50,000-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire truck and includes 24-hour roadside assistance. The Equinox’s 3-year/36,000-mile basic warranty expires 1 year or 14,000 miles sooner.

The Range Rover Evoque’s 6 year corrosion warranty has no mileage limitations, but the corrosion warranty on the Equinox runs out after 100,000 miles.

The Range Rover Evoque’s standard 2.0 turbo 4-cylinder produces 76 more horsepower (246 vs. 170) and 66 lbs.-ft. more torque (269 vs. 203) than the Equinox’s 1.5 turbo 4-cylinder. The Range Rover Evoque R-Dynamic HST’s standard 2.0 turbo 4-cylinder produces 126 more horsepower (296 vs. 170) and 92 lbs.-ft. more torque (295 vs. 203) than the Equinox’s 1.5 turbo 4-cylinder.

As tested in Consumer Reports the Land Rover Range Rover Evoque 2.0 is faster than the Chevrolet Equinox:

Regenerative brakes improve the Range Rover Evoque’s fuel efficiency by converting inertia back into energy instead of wasting it. The Equinox doesn’t offer a regenerative braking system.

The Range Rover Evoque has 2.8 gallons more fuel capacity than the Equinox FWD’s standard fuel tank (17.7 vs. 14.9 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups. The Range Rover Evoque has 2.1 gallons more fuel capacity than the Equinox AWD’s standard fuel tank (17.7 vs. 15.6 gallons).

A nine-speed automatic is standard on the Land Rover Range Rover Evoque, for better acceleration and lower engine speed on the highway. Only a six-speed automatic is available for the Equinox.

The Range Rover Evoque’s standard tires provide better handling because they have a lower 60 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the Equinox LS/LT’s standard 65 series tires. The Range Rover Evoque’s optional tires have a lower 45 series profile than the Equinox’s optional 50 series tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the Range Rover Evoque has standard 18-inch wheels. Smaller 17-inch wheels are standard on the Equinox LS/LT. The Range Rover Evoque’s optional 21-inch wheels are larger than the 19-inch wheels optional on the Equinox.

For greater off-road capability the Range Rover Evoque has a greater minimum ground clearance than the Equinox (8.3 vs. 7.9 inches), allowing the Range Rover Evoque to travel over rougher terrain without being stopped or damaged.

The Range Rover Evoque is 11 inches shorter than the Equinox, making the Range Rover Evoque easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

The Range Rover Evoque’s standard towing capacity is much higher than the Equinox’s (3968 vs. 1500 pounds).

The Range Rover Evoque uses gas struts to support the hood for easier service access. The Equinox uses a prop rod to support its heavy hood. It takes two hands to open the hood and set the prop rod, the prop rod gets in the way during maintenance and service, and the prop rod could be knocked out, causing the heavy hood to fall on the person maintaining or servicing the car.

The Range Rover Evoque’s front and rear power windows all open or close with one touch of the switches, making it more convenient at drive-up windows and toll booths, or when talking with someone outside of the car. The Equinox’s passenger windows don’t close automatically.

The Range Rover Evoque’s standard automatic temperature control maintains the temperature you set, automatically controlling fan speed, vents and temperature to maintain a consistent, comfortable environment. The Equinox LS doesn’t offer automatic air conditioning.

To quickly and conveniently keep personal devices charged without cables tangling and wearing out, the Land Rover Range Rover Evoque has a standard wireless phone charging system (Qi) in the center console. Only the Equinox Premier offers wireless charging.

Insurance will cost less for the Range Rover Evoque owner. The Car Book by Jack Gillis rates the Range Rover Evoque with a number “3” insurance rate while the Equinox is rated higher at a number “8” rate.

The Range Rover Evoque will cost the buyer less in the long run because of its superior resale value. The IntelliChoice estimates that the Range Rover Evoque will retain 48.01% to 48.13% of its original price after five years, while the Equinox only retains 35.23% to 40.67%.

According to The Car Book by Jack Gillis, the Range Rover Evoque is less expensive to operate than the Equinox because it costs $427 less to do the manufacturer’s suggested maintenance for 50,000 miles. Typical repairs cost much less on the Range Rover Evoque than the Equinox, including $168 less for a water pump, $319 less for a muffler, $30 less for front brake pads, $41 less for a fuel pump, $203 less for a timing belt/chain and $284 less for a power steering pump.
