The Chevrolet Camaro has standard driver and front passenger side knee airbags mounted low on the dashboard. These airbags helps prevent the driver and front passenger from sliding under their seatbelts or the main frontal airbags; this keeps them better positioned during a collision for maximum protection. Chevrolet’s powertrain warranty covers the Camaro 1 year and 10,000 miles longer than Mercedes covers the AMG E-Class Coupe. Any repair needed on the engine, transmission, axles, joints or driveshafts is fully covered for 5 years or 60,000 miles. Coverage on the AMG E-Class Coupe ends after only 4 years or 50,000 miles.

The Camaro’s corrosion warranty is 1 year longer than the AMG E-Class Coupe’s (6 vs. 5 years).

There are almost 8 times as many Chevrolet dealers as there are Mercedes dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the Camaro’s warranty.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2020 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Chevrolet vehicles are better in initial quality than Mercedes vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Chevrolet third in initial quality, above the industry average. With 61 more problems per 100 vehicles, Mercedes is ranked 30th, below the industry average.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2021 survey of the owners of three-year-old vehicles provides the long-term dependability statistics that show that Chevrolet vehicles are more reliable than Mercedes vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Chevrolet 12th in reliability, above the industry average. With 7 more problems per 100 vehicles, Mercedes is ranked 15th.

From surveys of all its subscribers, Consumer Reports’ January 2021 Auto Issue reports that Chevrolet vehicles are more reliable than Mercedes vehicles. Consumer Reports ranks Chevrolet 3 places higher in reliability than Mercedes.

The Camaro LT1/SS’ standard 6.2 V8 produces 26 more horsepower (455 vs. 429) and 71 lbs.-ft. more torque (455 vs. 384) than the AMG E-Class Coupe’s 3.0 turbo 6-cylinder hybrid. The Camaro ZL1’s standard 6.2 supercharged V8 produces 221 more horsepower (650 vs. 429) and 266 lbs.-ft. more torque (650 vs. 384) than the AMG E-Class Coupe’s 3.0 turbo 6-cylinder hybrid.

As tested in Motor Trend the Camaro ZL1 6.2 supercharged V8 is faster than the Mercedes AMG E-Class Coupe (automatics tested):

On the EPA test cycle the Camaro 2.0 turbo 4-cylinder 8 speed Auto gets better fuel mileage than the AMG E 53 Coupe (22 city/30 hwy vs. 21 city/28 hwy).

An engine control system that can shut down some of the engine’s cylinders helps improve the Camaro V6/V8 Auto’s fuel efficiency. The AMG E-Class Coupe doesn’t offer a system that can shut down part of the engine.

To lower fuel costs and make buying fuel easier, the Chevrolet Camaro uses regular unleaded gasoline (premium recommended with the 2.0 turbo 4-cylinder engine for maximum performance). The AMG E-Class Coupe requires premium, which can cost 20 to 55 cents more per gallon.

The Camaro has 1.6 gallons more fuel capacity than the AMG E-Class Coupe (19 vs. 17.4 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups.

The Camaro has a standard cap-less fueling system. The fuel filler is automatically opened when the fuel nozzle is inserted and automatically closed when it’s removed. This eliminates the need to unscrew and replace the cap and it reduces fuel evaporation, which causes pollution. The AMG E-Class Coupe doesn’t offer a cap-less fueling system.

The Camaro offers a manual transmission for better acceleration, control and sportiness. The AMG E-Class Coupe doesn’t offer a manual transmission.

A 10-speed automatic is available on the Chevrolet Camaro, for better acceleration and lower engine speed on the highway. Only a nine-speed automatic is available for the AMG E-Class Coupe.

The Camaro (except LS/LT/LT1)’s optional launch control uses engine electronics to hold engine RPM’s precisely in order to provide the most stable and rapid acceleration possible, using all of the available traction. The AMG E-Class Coupe doesn’t offer launch control.

For better traction, the Camaro ZL1 1LE Coupe’s tires are larger than the largest tires available on the AMG E-Class Coupe (F:305/30R19 & R:325/30R19 vs. F:245/40R19 & R:275/35R19).

The Camaro SS 1LE/ZL1’s tires provide better handling because they have a lower 30 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the AMG E-Class Coupe’s optional 35 series front tires.

The Camaro has a standard easy tire fill system. When inflating the tires, the vehicle’s integrated tire pressure sensors keep track of the pressure as the tires fill and tell the driver when the tires are inflated to the proper pressure. The AMG E-Class Coupe doesn’t offer vehicle monitored tire inflation.

The Camaro SS Coupe handles at 1.12 G’s, while the AMG E 53 Coupe pulls only .91 G’s of cornering force in a Motor Trend skidpad test.

The Camaro SS Coupe executes Motor Trend’s “Figure Eight” maneuver 2.4 seconds quicker than the AMG E 53 Coupe (22.9 seconds @ .91 average G’s vs. 25.3 seconds @ .74 average G’s).

For better maneuverability, the Camaro’s turning circle is 1.6 feet tighter than the AMG E-Class Coupe’s (38.1 feet vs. 39.7 feet). The Camaro ZL1’s turning circle is 1.3 feet tighter than the AMG E-Class Coupe’s (38.4 feet vs. 39.7 feet).

The Chevrolet Camaro may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 300 to 1100 pounds less than the Mercedes AMG E-Class Coupe.

Because it has more passenger and cargo room, the EPA rates the Camaro Coupe a Compact car, while the AMG E-Class Coupe is rated a Subcompact.

The Camaro Coupe has 4 cubic feet more passenger volume than the AMG E-Class Coupe (93 vs. 89).

The Camaro Coupe has .8 inches more front headroom, 2 inches more front legroom and .1 inches more rear shoulder room than the AMG E-Class Coupe.

The Camaro’s instruments include an oil pressure gauge and a temperature gauge - which could save your engine! Often ‘idiot lights’ don’t warn you until damage has been done. The AMG E-Class Coupe does not have an oil pressure gauge.

Insurance will cost less for the Camaro owner. The Car Book by Jack Gillis rates the Camaro with a number “1” insurance rate while the AMG E-Class Coupe is rated higher at a number “5” rate.

According to The Car Book by Jack Gillis, the Camaro is less expensive to operate than the AMG E-Class Coupe because typical repairs cost much less on the Camaro than the AMG E-Class Coupe, including $337 less for a water pump, $262 less for a muffler, $528 less for a starter, $137 less for fuel injection, $29 less for front struts, $450 less for a timing belt/chain and $529 less for a power steering pump.

IntelliChoice estimates that five-year ownership costs (depreciation, financing, insurance, fuel, fees, repairs and maintenance) for the Chevrolet Camaro will be $5044 to $50119 less than for the Mercedes AMG E-Class Coupe.

J.D. Power and Associates rated the Camaro second among midsize sporty cars in owner reported satisfaction. This includes how well the vehicle performs and satisfies its owner’s expectations. The AMG E-Class Coupe isn’t in the top three.

The Camaro was chosen as one of Automobile Magazine’s “All Stars” in 2013. The E-Class has never been an “All Star.”
