Safety
Reliability
The engine in the HR-V has a single overhead cam for simplicity. The engine in the Corolla Cross has dual overhead cams, which add to the number of moving parts and the complexity of the cylinder heads.
Tires and Wheels
The HR-V’s standard tires provide better handling because they have a lower 55 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the Corolla Cross’ standard 65 series tires. The HR-V Sport’s tires have a lower 50 series profile than the Corolla Cross XLE’s 55 series tires.
Chassis
The Honda HR-V may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 200 pounds less than the Toyota Corolla Cross.
The HR-V is 5.2 inches shorter than the Corolla Cross, making the HR-V easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.
The HR-V is 5.8 inches narrower on average than the Corolla Cross, making the HR-V easier to handle and maneuver in traffic.
The HR-V Sport/EX/EX-L uses computer-generated active noise cancellation to help remove annoying noise and vibration from the passenger compartment, especially at low frequencies. The Corolla Cross doesn’t offer active noise cancellation.
Passenger Space
The HR-V has 5.2 cubic feet more passenger volume than the Corolla Cross (100.1 vs. 94.9).
The HR-V has .5 inches more front hip room, 4.1 inches more front shoulder room, 7.3 inches more rear legroom, 3.6 inches more rear hip room and 2.1 inches more rear shoulder room than the Corolla Cross.
For enhanced passenger comfort on long trips the HR-V’s rear seats recline. The Corolla Cross’ rear seats don’t recline.
Ergonomics
The HR-V Touring’s standard GPS navigation system has a real-time traffic update feature that plots alternative routes to automatically bypass traffic problems. (Service not available in all areas.) The Corolla Cross’ doesn’t offer a navigation system.
