J.D. Power and Associates rated the Encore third among small suvs in their 2020 Initial Quality Study. The Corsair isn’t in the top three in its category.

J.D. Power ranks Buick fifth in reliability, above the industry average. With 6 more problems per 100 vehicles, Lincoln is ranked 9th.

From surveys of all its subscribers, Consumer Reports’ January 2021 Auto Issue reports that Buick vehicles are more reliable than Lincoln vehicles. Consumer Reports ranks Buick fourth in reliability. Lincoln is ranked 26th.

On the EPA test cycle the Encore gets better fuel mileage than the Corsair:

To lower fuel costs and make buying fuel easier, the Buick Encore uses regular unleaded gasoline. The Corsair requires premium for maximum efficiency, which can cost 20 to 55 cents more per gallon.

The Encore stops much shorter than the Corsair:

The Encore’s tires provide better handling because they have a lower 55 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the Corsair’s standard 60 series tires.

The Encore has standard front and rear gas-charged shocks for better control over choppy roads. The Corsair’s suspension doesn’t offer gas-charged shocks.

The Buick Encore may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 450 to 500 pounds less than the Lincoln Corsair.

The Encore is 1 foot shorter than the Corsair, making the Encore easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

The Encore has .1 inches more front headroom and .1 inches more rear headroom than the Corsair.

Insurance will cost less for the Encore owner. The Car Book by Jack Gillis rates the Encore with a number “5” insurance rate while the Corsair is rated higher at a number “8” rate.

According to The Car Book by Jack Gillis, the Encore is less expensive to operate than the Corsair because it costs $527 less to do the manufacturer’s suggested maintenance for 50,000 miles. Typical repairs cost much less on the Encore than the Corsair, including $150 less for a water pump, $105 less for a muffler, $156 less for a starter, $288 less for fuel injection, $153 less for a fuel pump, $82 less for front struts, $242 less for a timing belt/chain and $725 less for a power steering pump.

IntelliChoice estimates that five-year ownership costs (depreciation, financing, insurance, fuel, fees, repairs and maintenance) for the Buick Encore will be $6491 to $7047 less than for the Lincoln Corsair.
