In the past twenty years hundreds of infants and young children have died after being left in vehicles, usually by accident. When turning the vehicle off, drivers of the Bolt are reminded to check the back seat if they opened the rear door before starting out. The e-tron Sportback doesn’t offer a back seat reminder.

Both the Bolt and the e-tron Sportback have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver and front passenger knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, rearview cameras, available blind spot warning systems, around view monitors and rear cross-path warning.

Chevrolet’s powertrain warranty covers the Bolt 1 year and 10,000 miles longer than Audi covers the e-tron Sportback. Any repair needed on the motor, lithium batteries, transmission, axles, joints or driveshafts is fully covered for 5 years or 60,000 miles. Coverage on the e-tron Sportback ends after only 4 years or 50,000 miles.

There are almost 10 times as many Chevrolet dealers as there are Audi dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the Bolt’s warranty.

A reliable vehicle saves its owner time, money and trouble. Nobody wants to be stranded or have to be without a vehicle while it’s being repaired. Consumer Reports rates the Bolt’s reliability 78 points higher than the e-tron Sportback.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2020 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Chevrolet vehicles are better in initial quality than Audi vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Chevrolet third in initial quality, above the industry average. With 84 more problems per 100 vehicles, Audi is ranked 32nd, below the industry average.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2021 survey of the owners of three-year-old vehicles provides the long-term dependability statistics that show that Chevrolet vehicles are more reliable than Audi vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Chevrolet 12th in reliability, above the industry average. With 12 more problems per 100 vehicles, Audi is ranked 20th.

On the EPA test cycle the Bolt gets better fuel mileage than the e-tron Sportback (131 city/109 hwy vs. 76 city/78 hwy MPGe).

The Bolt’s maximum EPA estimated driving range is 259 miles on a full charge, 19% further than the e-tron Sportback’s 218-mile range.

The Bolt has a standard easy tire fill system. When inflating the tires, the vehicle’s integrated tire pressure sensors keep track of the pressure as the tires fill and tell the driver when the tires are inflated to the proper pressure. The e-tron Sportback doesn’t offer vehicle monitored tire inflation.

Having a flat tire is dangerous, inconvenient and expensive. The self-sealing tires standard on the Bolt can automatically seal most punctures up to 3/16 of an inch, effectively preventing most flat tires. The e-tron Sportback doesn’t offer self-sealing tires.

For better maneuverability, the Bolt’s turning circle is 5.2 feet tighter than the e-tron Sportback’s (34.8 feet vs. 40 feet).

The Chevrolet Bolt may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 2150 pounds less than the Audi e-tron Sportback.

The Bolt is 2 feet, 5.8 inches shorter than the e-tron Sportback, making the Bolt easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

The Bolt is 6.7 inches narrower than the e-tron Sportback, making the Bolt easier to handle and maneuver in traffic.

The Bolt has 2 inches more front headroom and 3.5 inches more front legroom than the e-tron Sportback.

The Bolt has a larger cargo volume with its rear seat folded than the e-tron Sportback with its rear seat folded (57 vs. 54.5 cubic feet).

The Bolt’s power window, power lock, power mirror and cruise control switches are lit from behind, making them plainly visible and easier to operate at night. The e-tron Sportback’s cruise control switches are unlit, making them difficult to find at night and operate safely.

To improve rear visibility by keeping the rear window clear, the Bolt has a standard rear fixed intermittent wiper with a full on position. The rear wiper standard on the e-tron Sportback only has an intermittent setting, so in a hard rain visibility isn’t as good.

The Bolt was chosen as one of Car and Driver’s “Top Ten” in 2017. The e-tron Sportback has never been a Car and Driver “Top Ten” pick.
