The Chevrolet Trax has standard driver and front passenger side knee airbags mounted low on the dashboard. These airbags helps prevent the driver and front passenger from sliding under their seatbelts or the main frontal airbags; this keeps them better positioned during a collision for maximum protection. Knee airbags also help keep the legs from striking the dashboard, preventing knee and leg injuries in the case of a serious frontal collision. The C-HR doesn’t offer a front passenger side knee airbag.

The Trax offers all-wheel drive to maximize traction under poor conditions, especially in ice and snow. The C-HR doesn’t offer all-wheel drive.

To reliably start during all conditions and help handle large electrical loads, the Trax has a standard 525-amp battery. The C-HR’s 520-amp battery isn’t as powerful.

A reliable vehicle saves its owner time, money and trouble. Nobody wants to be stranded or have to be without a vehicle while it’s being repaired. Consumer Reports rates the Trax’s reliability 37 points higher than the C-HR.

J.D. Power and Associates rated the Trax third among small suvs in their 2021 Initial Quality Study. The C-HR isn’t in the top three.

Power ranks Chevrolet 10th in initial quality, above the industry average. With 6 more problems per 100 vehicles, Toyota is ranked 13th.

The Trax’s 1.4 turbo 4-cylinder produces 11 more horsepower (155 vs. 144) and 38 lbs.-ft. more torque (177 vs. 139) than the C-HR’s 2.0 DOHC 4-cylinder.

To lower fuel costs and make buying fuel easier, the Chevrolet Trax uses regular unleaded gasoline. The C-HR requires premium for maximum efficiency, which can cost 20 to 55 cents more per gallon.

In its Green Vehicle Guide, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) rates the Chevrolet Trax higher (7 out of 10) than the Toyota C-HR (3). This means the Trax produces up to 24.5 pounds less smog-producing pollutants than the C-HR every 15,000 miles.

The Trax stops much shorter than the C-HR:

The Trax has standard front and rear gas-charged shocks for better control over choppy roads. The C-HR’s suspension doesn’t offer gas-charged shocks.

The Trax has vehicle speed sensitive variable-assist power steering, for low-effort parking, better control at highway speeds and during hard cornering, and a better feel of the road. The C-HR doesn’t offer variable-assist power steering.

The Trax is 5 inches shorter than the C-HR, making the Trax easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

The Trax has 6.8 cubic feet more passenger volume than the C-HR (92.8 vs. 86).

The Trax has 1.5 inches more front headroom, 5.1 inches more front shoulder room, .5 inches more rear headroom, 4 inches more rear legroom, 2.7 inches more rear hip room and .3 inches more rear shoulder room than the C-HR.

A low lift-over cargo hatch design makes loading and unloading the Trax easier. The Trax’s cargo hatch lift-over height is 28.8 inches, while the C-HR’s liftover is 31 inches.

An Oil Life Monitor is standard on the Trax to save the owner time and money by calculating maintenance intervals for oil changes based on actual driving conditions. This takes the guesswork out of keeping your vehicle in top condition and helps it last longer. Toyota doesn’t offer a maintenance reminder on the C-HR.

The Trax offers a remote vehicle starting system, so the vehicle can be started from inside the driver's house. This allows the driver to comfortably warm up the engine before going out to the vehicle. The C-HR doesn’t offer a remote starting system.

The Trax has a standard center folding armrest for the rear passengers. A center armrest helps make rear passengers more comfortable and it can provide a boundary between children. The C-HR doesn’t offer a rear seat center armrest.

The Trax LT has a 115-volt a/c outlet on the center console, allowing you to recharge a laptop or run small household appliances without special adapters that can break or get misplaced. The C-HR doesn’t offer a house-current electrical outlet.

Insurance will cost less for the Trax owner. The Complete Car Cost Guide estimates that insurance for the Trax will cost $155 less than the C-HR over a five-year period.
