Compare the2022 Chevrolet TraxVS 2021 Nissan Rogue Sport

Both the Trax and the Rogue Sport have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver and front passenger knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, front wheel drive, height adjustable front shoulder belts, plastic fuel tanks, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, daytime running lights, rearview cameras, available all wheel drive, blind spot warning systems, rear parking sensors and rear cross-path warning.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration does 35 MPH front crash tests on new vehicles. In this test, results indicate that the Chevrolet Trax is safer than the Nissan Rogue Sport:

For its top level performance in all IIHS frontal, side, rear impact and roof-crush tests, and with its optional front crash prevention system, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety grants the Trax the rating of “Top Pick” for 2016, a rating granted to only 221 vehicles tested by the IIHS. The Rogue Sport has not been fully tested, yet.

The Trax’s corrosion warranty is 1 year longer than the Rogue Sport’s (6 vs. 5 years).

There are almost 3 times as many Chevrolet dealers as there are Nissan dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the Trax’s warranty.

To reliably power the ignition and other systems and to recharge the battery, the Trax has a standard 130-amp alternator. The Rogue Sport’s 120-amp alternator isn’t as powerful.

J.D. Power and Associates rated the Trax third among small suvs in their 2021 Initial Quality Study. The Rogue Sport isn’t in the top three in its category.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2021 survey of the owners of three-year-old vehicles provides the long-term dependability statistics that show that Chevrolet vehicles are more reliable than Nissan vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Chevrolet 12th in reliability, above the industry average. With 13 more problems per 100 vehicles, Nissan is ranked 21st.

The Trax’s 1.4 turbo 4-cylinder produces 14 more horsepower (155 vs. 141) and 30 lbs.-ft. more torque (177 vs. 147) than the Rogue Sport’s 2.0 DOHC 4-cylinder.

In its Green Vehicle Guide, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) rates the Chevrolet Trax higher (7 out of 10) than the Nissan Rogue Sport (5). This means the Trax produces up to 8 pounds less smog-producing pollutants than the Rogue Sport every 15,000 miles.

The Trax has standard front and rear gas-charged shocks for better control over choppy roads. The Rogue Sport’s suspension doesn’t offer gas-charged shocks.

The Trax handles at .80 G’s, while the Rogue Sport SL 4x4 pulls only .75 G’s of cornering force in a Motor Trend skidpad test.

The Trax executes Motor Trend’s “Figure Eight” maneuver 1.4 seconds quicker than the Rogue Sport SL 4x4 (28.2 seconds @ .58 average G’s vs. 29.6 seconds @ .53 average G’s).

For better maneuverability, the Trax LS’ turning circle is 1.5 feet tighter than the Rogue Sport’s (35.4 feet vs. 36.9 feet). The Trax LT’s turning circle is .2 feet tighter than the Rogue Sport’s (36.7 feet vs. 36.9 feet).

The Trax is 5.2 inches shorter than the Rogue Sport, making the Trax easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

The Trax has .5 inches more rear headroom, 2.3 inches more rear legroom and 3.8 inches more rear hip room than the Rogue Sport.

A low lift-over cargo hatch design makes loading and unloading the Trax easier. The Trax’s cargo hatch lift-over height is 28.8 inches, while the Rogue Sport’s liftover is 30.2 inches.

The Trax has a maintenance free battery for long life without checking the battery’s water level. The Rogue Sport doesn’t have a maintenance free battery, so the water level in the battery’s cells must be checked often to prevent damage.

The power windows standard on both the Trax and the Rogue Sport have locks to prevent small children from operating them. When the lock on the Trax is engaged the driver can still operate all of the windows, for instance to close one opened by a child. The Rogue Sport prevents the driver from operating the other windows just as it does the other passengers.

The Trax’s front and rear power windows all lower with one touch of the switches, making it more convenient at drive-up windows and toll booths, or when talking with someone outside of the car. The Rogue Sport’s passenger windows don’t open automatically.

The Trax’s power window, power lock and cruise control switches are lit from behind, making them plainly visible and easier to operate at night. The Rogue Sport’s power window (except driver window) switches are unlit, making them difficult to find at night and operate safely.

The Trax LT has a 115-volt a/c outlet on the center console, allowing you to recharge a laptop or run small household appliances without special adapters that can break or get misplaced. The Rogue Sport doesn’t offer a house-current electrical outlet.
