The Jeep Wagoneer has standard driver and front passenger side knee airbags mounted low on the dashboard. These airbags helps prevent the driver and front passenger from sliding under their seatbelts or the main frontal airbags; this keeps them better positioned during a collision for maximum protection. Knee airbags also help keep the legs from striking the dashboard, preventing knee and leg injuries in the case of a serious frontal collision. The Escalade ESV doesn’t offer knee airbags.

The Wagoneer has standard Active Headrests, which use a specially designed headrest to protect the driver and front passenger from whiplash. During a rear-end collision, the Active Headrests system moves the headrests forward to prevent neck and spine injuries. The Escalade ESV doesn’t offer a whiplash protection system.

The Wagoneer has a standard blind spot warning system which uses sensors to alert the driver to objects in the vehicle’s blind spots where the side view mirrors don’t reveal them. Only the Escalade ESV Premium/Platinum/Sport offers a blind spot warning system.

To help make backing out of a parking space safer, the Wagoneer has a standard cross-path warning system, which uses sensors in the rear bumper to alert the driver to vehicles approaching from the side, helping the driver avoid collisions. Only the Escalade ESV Premium/Platinum/Sport has a cross-path warning system.

The Wagoneer’s optional driver alert monitor detects an inattentive driver then sounds a warning and suggests a break. According to the NHTSA, drivers who fall asleep cause about 100,000 crashes and 1500 deaths a year. The Escalade ESV doesn’t offer a driver alert monitor.

Both the Wagoneer and the Escalade ESV have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, plastic fuel tanks, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, rearview cameras, available all wheel drive, night vision systems and around view monitors.

Jeep pays for scheduled maintenance on the Wagoneer for 5 years and unlimited miles. Jeep will pay for oil changes, lubrication and any other required maintenance. Cadillac only pays for the first scheduled maintenance visit on the Escalade ESV.

There are almost 3 times as many Jeep dealers as there are Cadillac dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the Wagoneer’s warranty.

The Jeep Wagoneer’s engines use a cast iron block for durability, while the Escalade ESV’s engines use an aluminum block. Aluminum engine blocks are much more prone to warp and crack at high temperatures than cast iron.

To reliably power the ignition and other systems and to recharge the battery, the Wagoneer has a 240-amp alternator. The Escalade ESV’s standard 220-amp alternator isn’t as powerful.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2020 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Jeep vehicles are better in initial quality than Cadillac vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Jeep 11th in initial quality, above the industry average. With 7 more problems per 100 vehicles, Cadillac is ranked 14th.

From surveys of all its subscribers, Consumer Reports’ January 2021 Auto Issue reports that Jeep vehicles are more reliable than Cadillac vehicles. Consumer Reports ranks Jeep 2 places higher in reliability than Cadillac.

The Grand Wagoneer’s standard 6.4 V8 produces 51 more horsepower (471 vs. 420) than the Escalade ESV’s 6.2 V8.

Regenerative brakes improve the Wagoneer (except Grand Wagoneer)’s fuel efficiency by converting inertia back into energy instead of wasting it. The Escalade ESV doesn’t offer a regenerative braking system.

For better traction, the Wagoneer’s optional tires are larger than the largest tires available on the Escalade ESV (285/45R22 vs. 275/50R22).

For enhanced passenger comfort on long trips the Wagoneer’s middle and third row seats recline. The Escalade ESV’s third row seats don’t recline.

The Wagoneer offers a maximum 10,000-pound towing capacity; the Escalade ESV’s maximum is only 8100 pounds.

To help drivers avoid possible obstacles, the Wagoneer offers optional cornering lights to illuminate around corners when the turn signals are activated. The Escalade ESV doesn’t offer cornering lights.

Manual rear side window sunshades are available in the Wagoneer to help block heat and glare for the rear passengers. The Escalade ESV doesn’t offer rear side window sunshades.

The Wagoneer has standard front air conditioned seats and the Grand Wagoneer offers them optionally in the second row. This keeps the passengers comfortable and takes the sting out of hot seats in summer. The Escalade ESV doesn’t offer air-conditioned seats for the second row.
