The Jeep Wagoneer has standard driver and front passenger side knee airbags mounted low on the dashboard. These airbags helps prevent the driver and front passenger from sliding under their seatbelts or the main frontal airbags; this keeps them better positioned during a collision for maximum protection. Knee airbags also help keep the legs from striking the dashboard, preventing knee and leg injuries in the case of a serious frontal collision. The Navigator doesn’t offer knee airbags.

The Wagoneer has standard Active Headrests, which use a specially designed headrest to protect the driver and front passenger from whiplash. During a rear-end collision, the Active Headrests system moves the headrests forward to prevent neck and spine injuries. The Navigator doesn’t offer a whiplash protection system.

Over 200 people are killed each year when backed over by motor vehicles. The Wagoneer has standard Park Assist with Rear Stop that uses rear sensors to monitor and automatically apply the brakes to prevent a rear collision. The Navigator doesn’t offer backup collision prevention brakes.

A passive infrared night vision system optional on the Grand Wagoneer helps the driver to more easily detect people, animals or other objects in front of the vehicle at night. Using an infrared camera to detect heat, the system then displays the image on a monitor in the dashboard. The Navigator doesn’t offer a night vision system.

Both the Wagoneer and the Navigator have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, plastic fuel tanks, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning, available all wheel drive, around view monitors and driver alert monitors.

Jeep pays for scheduled maintenance on the Wagoneer for 5 years and unlimited miles. Jeep will pay for oil changes, lubrication and any other required maintenance. Lincoln only pays for the first scheduled maintenance visit on the Navigator.

There are over 3 times as many Jeep dealers as there are Lincoln dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the Wagoneer’s warranty.

The Jeep Wagoneer’s engines use a cast iron block for durability, while the Navigator’s engine uses an aluminum block. Aluminum engine blocks are much more prone to warp and crack at high temperatures than cast iron.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2020 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Jeep vehicles are better in initial quality than Lincoln vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Jeep 11th in initial quality, above the industry average. With 27 more problems per 100 vehicles, Lincoln is ranked 21st, below the industry average.

From surveys of all its subscribers, Consumer Reports’ January 2021 Auto Issue reports that Jeep vehicles are more reliable than Lincoln vehicles. Consumer Reports ranks Jeep 7 places higher in reliability than Lincoln.

The Grand Wagoneer’s standard 6.4 V8 produces 21 more horsepower (471 vs. 450) than the Navigator’s 3.5 turbo V6.

An engine control system that can shut down some of the engine’s cylinders helps improve the Wagoneer (except Grand Wagoneer)’s fuel efficiency. The Navigator doesn’t offer a system that can shut down part of the engine.

Regenerative brakes improve the Wagoneer (except Grand Wagoneer)’s fuel efficiency by converting inertia back into energy instead of wasting it. The Navigator doesn’t offer a regenerative braking system.

The Wagoneer has 2.9 gallons more fuel capacity than the Navigator (26.5 vs. 23.6 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups.

For better stopping power the Wagoneer’s brake rotors are larger than those on the Navigator:

The Wagoneer has a standard easy tire fill system. When inflating the tires, the vehicle’s integrated tire pressure sensors keep track of the pressure as the tires fill and tell the driver when the tires are inflated to the proper pressure. The Navigator doesn’t offer vehicle monitored tire inflation.

The Wagoneer offers an optional automatic front and rear load leveling suspension to keep ride height level with a heavy load or when towing. The Wagoneer’s height leveling suspension allows the driver to raise ride height for better off-road clearance and then lower it again for easier entering and exiting and better on-road handling. The Navigator doesn’t offer a load leveling suspension.

For better handling and stability, the track (width between the wheels) on the Wagoneer is .9 inches wider in the front and 1.1 inches wider in the rear than on the Navigator.

For better maneuverability, the Wagoneer’s turning circle is 2.8 feet tighter than the Navigator’s (38 feet vs. 40.8 feet).

For greater off-road capability the Wagoneer Air Suspension has a greater minimum ground clearance than the Navigator (10 vs. 9.6 inches), allowing the Wagoneer to travel over rougher terrain without being stopped or damaged.

The Wagoneer has 7.2 cubic feet more passenger volume than the Navigator (179.2 vs. 172).

The Wagoneer has 1.5 inches more front hip room, .9 inches more front shoulder room, 1.6 inches more rear legroom, 1.4 inches more rear hip room, .1 inches more rear shoulder room, 1.7 inches more third row headroom, .5 inches more third row legroom, .2 inches more third row hip room and .2 inches more third row shoulder room than the Navigator.

The Wagoneer’s cargo area provides more volume than the Navigator.

The Wagoneer’s minimum standard towing capacity is much higher than the Navigator’s (7180 vs. 6200 pounds). The Wagoneer offers a maximum 10,000-pound towing capacity; the Navigator’s maximum is only 8700 pounds.

The Wagoneer’s instruments include an oil pressure gauge and a temperature gauge - which could save your engine! Often ‘idiot lights’ don’t warn you until damage has been done. The Navigator does not have an oil pressure gauge.

The Wagoneer has a standard locking fuel door with a remote release located convenient to the driver. A locking fuel door helps prevent fuel theft and vandalism, such as sugar in the tank. The Navigator doesn’t offer a locking fuel door.

Manual rear side window sunshades are available in the Wagoneer to help block heat and glare for the rear passengers. The Navigator doesn’t offer rear side window sunshades.

When the Wagoneer is put in reverse, both rearview mirrors tilt from their original position. This gives the driver a better view of the curb during parallel parking maneuvers. Shifting out of reverse puts the mirrors into their original positions. The Navigator’s mirrors don’t automatically adjust for backing.

The Wagoneer has standard front air-conditioned seats and the Grand Wagoneer offers them optionally in the second row. This keeps the passengers comfortable and takes the sting out of hot seats in summer. The Navigator doesn’t offer air-conditioned seats for the second row.

The Wagoneer’s optional ParkSense Automated Parking can parallel park or back into a parking spot by itself, with the driver only controlling the transmission and speed with the brake pedal. With its available fully controlled system, the driver just activates it and it parks autonomously, starting, stopping and changing direction automatically. The Navigator’s automatic parking system requires operating the brakes and transmission to safely park.
