Compare the2022 Infiniti QX55VS 2021 GMC Acadia

The Infiniti QX55 has standard driver and front passenger side knee airbags mounted low on the dashboard. These airbags helps prevent the driver and front passenger from sliding under their seatbelts or the main frontal airbags; this keeps them better positioned during a collision for maximum protection. Knee airbags also help keep the legs from striking the dashboard, preventing knee and leg injuries in the case of a serious frontal collision. The Acadia doesn’t offer a front passenger side knee airbag.

Over 200 people are killed each year when backed over by motor vehicles. The QX55 has standard Rear Automatic Braking that uses rear sensors to monitor and automatically apply the brakes to prevent a rear collision. The Acadia doesn’t offer backup collision prevention brakes.

To provide maximum traction and stability on all roads, All-Wheel Drive is standard on the QX55. But it costs extra on the Acadia.

The QX55’s standard lane departure warning system alerts a temporarily inattentive driver when the vehicle begins to leave its lane. A lane departure warning system costs extra on the Acadia and is not available with SL.

Both the QX55 and the Acadia have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, plastic fuel tanks, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, daytime running lights, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning and available around view monitors.

The QX55 comes with a full 4-year/60,000-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire truck and includes 24-hour roadside assistance. The Acadia’s 3-year/36,000-mile basic warranty expires 1 year or 24,000 miles sooner.

Infiniti’s powertrain warranty covers the QX55 1 year and 10,000 miles longer than GMC covers the Acadia. Any repair needed on the engine, transmission, axles, joints or driveshafts is fully covered for 6 years or 70,000 miles. Coverage on the Acadia ends after only 5 years or 60,000 miles.

The QX55’s corrosion warranty is 1 year and unlimited miles longer than the Acadia’s (7/unlimited vs. 6/100,000).

To reliably start during all conditions and help handle large electrical loads, the QX55 has a standard 720-amp battery. The Acadia’s 660-amp battery isn’t as powerful.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2021 survey of the owners of three-year-old vehicles provides the long-term dependability statistics that show that Infiniti vehicles are more reliable than GMC vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Infiniti 23rd in reliability. With 6 more problems per 100 vehicles, GMC is ranked 25th.

From surveys of all its subscribers, Consumer Reports’ January 2021 Auto Issue reports that Infiniti vehicles are more reliable than GMC vehicles. Consumer Reports ranks Infiniti 5 places higher in reliability than GMC.

The QX55’s 2.0 turbo 4-cylinder produces 75 more horsepower (268 vs. 193) and 92 lbs.-ft. more torque (280 vs. 188) than the Acadia’s standard 2.5 DOHC 4-cylinder. The QX55’s 2.0 turbo 4-cylinder produces 38 more horsepower (268 vs. 230) and 22 lbs.-ft. more torque (280 vs. 258) than the Acadia’s optional 2.0 turbo 4-cylinder. The QX55’s 2.0 turbo 4-cylinder produces 9 lbs.-ft. more torque (280 vs. 271) than the Acadia’s optional 3.6 DOHC V6.

In its Green Vehicle Guide, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) rates the Infiniti QX55 higher (6 out of 10) than the GMC Acadia (5 to 6). This means the QX55 produces up to 6.9 pounds less smog-producing pollutants than the Acadia every 15,000 miles.

The QX55 has a standard continuously variable transmission (CVT). With no “steps” between gears, it can keep the engine at the most efficient speed for fuel economy, or keep it at its peak horsepower indefinitely for maximum acceleration. The Acadia doesn’t offer a CVT.

For better stopping power the QX55’s front brake rotors are larger than those on the Acadia:

For better traction, the QX55 has larger tires than the Acadia (255/45R20 vs. 235/65R18).

The QX55’s tires provide better handling because they have a lower 45 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the Acadia’s standard 65 series tires. The QX55’s tires are lower profile than the Acadia’s optional 55 series tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the QX55 has standard 20-inch wheels. Smaller 17-inch wheels are standard on the Acadia.

Changing a flat tire near traffic can be dangerous and inconvenient. The run-flat tires standard on the QX55 can be driven up to 50 miles without any air pressure, allowing you to drive to a service station for a repair. The Acadia doesn’t offer run-flat tires.

For better maneuverability, the QX55’s turning circle is 2.3 feet tighter than the Acadia’s (36.4 feet vs. 38.7 feet).

For greater off-road capability the QX55 has a 1.4 inches greater minimum ground clearance than the Acadia (8.6 vs. 7.2 inches), allowing the QX55 to travel over rougher terrain without being stopped or damaged. The QX55’s minimum ground clearance is .8 inch higher than on the Acadia All Terrain (8.6 vs. 7.8 inches).

The QX55 is 7.1 inches shorter than the Acadia, making the QX55 easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

The front step up height for the QX55 is .6 inches lower than the Acadia (17.4” vs. 18”). The QX55’s rear step up height is 1.2 inches lower than the Acadia’s (17.8” vs. 19”).

The QX55 has a much larger cargo volume than the Acadia with its rear seat up (26.9 vs. 12.8 cubic feet).

A low lift-over cargo hatch design makes loading and unloading the QX55 easier. The QX55’s cargo hatch lift-over height is 29.9 inches, while the Acadia’s liftover is 32 inches.

A standard locking glovebox (which can’t be accessed with the valet key) keeps your small valuables safer in the QX55. The Acadia doesn’t offer locking storage for small valuables.

J.D. Power and Associates surveys of service recipients show that Infiniti service is better than GMC. J.D. Power ranks Infiniti third in service department satisfaction. With a 31% lower rating, GMC is ranked 15th.

The QX55’s front and rear power windows all open or close fully with one touch of the switches, making it more convenient at drive-up windows and toll booths, or when talking with someone outside the car. The Acadia’s rear power window switches have to be held the entire time to open them fully. Only its driver’s window closes automatically.

If the windows are left open on the QX55 the driver can close them all at the outside door handle. On a hot day the driver can lower the windows from a distance using the keyless remote. The driver of the Acadia can only operate the windows from inside the vehicle, with the ignition on.

The QX55 has a standard locking fuel door with a remote release located convenient to the driver. A locking fuel door helps prevent fuel theft and vandalism, such as sugar in the tank. The Acadia doesn’t offer a locking fuel door.

The QX55 Essential/Sensory’s standard wipers adjust their speed and turn on and off automatically according to the amount of rainfall on the windshield. The Acadia’s intermittent wipers change speed with vehicle speed, but can’t turn on and off or change speed based on changing rainfall.

To help drivers see further while navigating curves, the QX55 (except Luxe) offers optional adaptive headlights to illuminate around corners automatically by reading vehicle speed and steering wheel angle. The Acadia doesn’t offer cornering lights.
