Honda’s powertrain warranty covers the Clarity Fuel Cell 1 year and 10,000 miles longer than Polestar covers the 2. Any repair needed on the motor, transmission, axles, joints or driveshafts is fully covered for 5 years or 60,000 miles. Coverage on the Polestar 2 ends after only 4 years or 50,000 miles.
Reliability
A reliable vehicle saves its owner time, money and trouble. Nobody wants to be stranded or have to be without a vehicle while it’s being repaired. Consumer Reports rates the Clarity Fuel Cell’s reliability 51 points higher than the Polestar 2.
Fuel Economy and Range
The Clarity Fuel Cell’s maximum driving range on a tank of hydrogen is 360 miles (producing zero emissions other than water), 55% further than the Polestar 2’s 233-mile range. After it exhausts its hydrogen, the Mirai can then refuel in a few minutes, while the Polestar 2 has to recharge for 40 minutes for only an 80% charge at a specially configured quick charge station not available in most areas. A full recharge at a conventional charging station can take up to 7 hours and 30 minutes.
Chassis
The Honda Clarity Fuel Cell may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 550 to 600 pounds less than the Polestar 2.
Passenger Space
The Clarity Fuel Cell has 6 cubic feet more passenger volume than the Polestar 2 (102 vs. 96).
The Clarity Fuel Cell has 5 inches more front shoulder room, 2.8 inches more rear legroom and 4.6 inches more rear shoulder room than the Polestar 2.
Ergonomics
The Clarity Fuel Cell has a standard heads-up display that projects speed readouts in front of the driver’s line of sight, allowing drivers to view information without diverting their eyes from the road. The Polestar 2 doesn’t offer a heads-up display.
To shield the driver and front passenger’s vision over a larger portion of the windshield and side windows, the Clarity Fuel Cell has standard extendable sun visors. The Polestar 2 doesn’t offer extendable visors.
