The Honda Odyssey has standard driver and front passenger side knee airbags mounted low on the dashboard. These airbags helps prevent the driver and front passenger from sliding under their seatbelts or the main frontal airbags; this keeps them better positioned during a collision for maximum protection. Knee airbags also help keep the legs from striking the dashboard, preventing knee and leg injuries in the case of a serious frontal collision. The QX60 doesn’t offer knee airbags.

The Odyssey has a standard Whiplash Mitigation Front Seat Design, which use a specially designed headrest to protect the driver and front passenger from whiplash. During a rear-end collision, the Whiplash Mitigation Front Seat Design system moves the headrests forward to prevent neck and spine injuries. The QX60 doesn’t offer a whiplash protection system.

Both the Odyssey and the QX60 have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, front wheel drive, height adjustable front shoulder belts, plastic fuel tanks, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, rearview cameras, available blind spot warning systems, rear parking sensors and rear cross-path warning.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration does 35 MPH front crash tests on new vehicles. In this test, results indicate that the Honda Odyssey is safer than the Infiniti QX60:

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration does side impact tests on new vehicles. In this test, which crashes the vehicle into a flat barrier at 38.5 MPH and into a post at 20 MPH, results indicate that the Honda Odyssey is safer than the Infiniti QX60:

There are over 5 times as many Honda dealers as there are Infiniti dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the Odyssey’s warranty.

The engine in the Odyssey has a single overhead cam for simplicity. The engine in the QX60 has dual overhead cams, which add to the number of moving parts and the complexity of the cylinder heads.

J.D. Power and Associates rated the Odyssey second among minivans in their 2020 Initial Quality Study. The QX60 isn’t in the top three in its category.

From surveys of all its subscribers, Consumer Reports’ January 2021 Auto Issue reports that Honda vehicles are more reliable than Infiniti vehicles. Consumer Reports ranks Honda 6 places higher in reliability than Infiniti.

An engine control system that can shut down some of the engine’s cylinders helps improve the Odyssey’s fuel efficiency. The QX60 doesn’t offer a system that can shut down part of the engine.

In heavy traffic or at stoplights the Odyssey’s engine automatically turns off when the vehicle is stopped, saving fuel and reducing pollution. The engine is automatically restarted when the driver gets ready to move again. (Start/Stop isn’t accounted in present EPA fuel mileage tests.) The QX60 doesn’t offer an automatic engine start/stop system.

To lower fuel costs and make buying fuel easier, the Honda Odyssey uses regular unleaded gasoline. The QX60 requires premium for maximum efficiency, which can cost 20 to 55 cents more per gallon.

The Odyssey has a standard cap-less fueling system. The fuel filler is automatically opened when the fuel nozzle is inserted and automatically closed when it’s removed. This eliminates the need to unscrew and replace the cap and it reduces fuel evaporation, which causes pollution. The QX60 doesn’t offer a cap-less fueling system.

The Odyssey stops shorter than the QX60:

The Odyssey’s standard tires provide better handling because they have a lower 60 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the QX60’s standard 65 series tires.

The Odyssey has a standard easy tire fill system. When inflating the tires, the vehicle’s integrated tire pressure sensors keep track of the pressure as the tires fill and tell the driver when the tires are inflated to the proper pressure. The QX60 doesn’t offer vehicle monitored tire inflation.

The Odyssey has standard front and rear gas-charged shocks for better control over choppy roads. The QX60’s suspension doesn’t offer gas-charged shocks.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the Odyssey’s wheelbase is 3.9 inches longer than on the QX60 (118.1 inches vs. 114.2 inches).

For better handling and stability, the track (width between the wheels) on the Odyssey is 1.6 inches wider in the front and 1.5 inches wider in the rear than on the QX60.

The front grille of the Odyssey uses electronically controlled shutters to close off airflow and reduce drag when less engine cooling is needed. This helps improve highway fuel economy. The QX60 doesn’t offer active grille shutters.

The Odyssey uses computer-generated active noise cancellation to help remove annoying noise and vibration from the passenger compartment, especially at low frequencies. The QX60 doesn’t offer active noise cancellation.

The Odyssey offers optional seating for 8 passengers; the QX60 can only carry 7.

The Odyssey has 14.6 cubic feet more passenger volume than the QX60 (163.6 vs. 149).

The Odyssey has 1.8 inches more front hip room, 2.8 inches more front shoulder room, 1.3 inches more rear headroom, 9 inches more rear hip room, 1.2 inches more rear shoulder room, 1.8 inches more third row headroom, 7.3 inches more third row legroom, 6.4 inches more third row hip room and 2.9 inches more third row shoulder room than the QX60.

The front step up height for the Odyssey is 1.2 inches lower than the QX60 (17” vs. 18.2”).

The Odyssey’s cargo area provides more volume than the QX60.

A low lift-over cargo hatch design makes loading and unloading the Odyssey easier. The Odyssey’s cargo hatch lift-over height is 22.5 inches, while the QX60’s liftover is 30.6 inches.

The Odyssey’s power parking brake sets with one touch and releases with one touch or automatically. The QX60’s parking brake has to released manually.

To quickly and conveniently keep personal devices charged without cables tangling and wearing out, the Honda Odyssey Elite has a standard wireless phone charging system (Qi) in the center console. The QX60 doesn’t offer wireless personal charging.

Insurance will cost less for the Odyssey owner. The Complete Car Cost Guide estimates that insurance for the Odyssey will cost $1640 to $2840 less than the QX60 over a five-year period.

According to The Car Book by Jack Gillis, the Odyssey is less expensive to operate than the QX60 because it costs $555 less to do the manufacturer’s suggested maintenance for 50,000 miles. Typical repairs cost much less on the Odyssey than the QX60, including $62 less for a muffler, $7 less for front brake pads, $218 less for fuel injection, $207 less for front struts, $727 less for a timing belt/chain and $791 less for a power steering pump.

IntelliChoice estimates that five-year ownership costs (depreciation, financing, insurance, fuel, fees, repairs and maintenance) for the Honda Odyssey will be $5532 to $12622 less than for the Infiniti QX60.

The Car Book by Jack Gillis recommends the Honda Odyssey, based on economy, maintenance, safety and complaint levels. The Infiniti QX60 isn't recommended.
