For enhanced safety, the front seat shoulder belts of the Chevrolet Trailblazer are height-adjustable to accommodate a wide variety of driver and passenger heights. A better fit can prevent injuries and the increased comfort also encourages passengers to buckle up. The Hyundai Venue doesn’t offer height-adjustable seat belts.

In the past twenty years hundreds of infants and young children have died after being left in vehicles, usually by accident. When turning the vehicle off, drivers of the Trailblazer are reminded to check the back seat if they opened the rear door before starting out. The Venue doesn’t offer a back seat reminder.

The Trailblazer offers all-wheel drive to maximize traction under poor conditions, especially in ice and snow. The Venue doesn’t offer all-wheel drive.

Both the Trailblazer and the Venue have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, front wheel drive, plastic fuel tanks, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, lane departure warning systems, rearview cameras, available blind spot warning systems, rear parking sensors and rear cross-path warning.

There are almost 4 times as many Chevrolet dealers as there are Hyundai dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the Trailblazer’s warranty.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2020 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Chevrolet vehicles are better in initial quality than Hyundai vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Chevrolet third in initial quality, above the industry average. With 12 more problems per 100 vehicles, Hyundai is ranked 10th.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2019 survey of the owners of three-year-old vehicles provides the long-term dependability statistics that show that Chevrolet vehicles are more reliable than Hyundai vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Chevrolet fourth in reliability, above the industry average. With 9 more problems per 100 vehicles, Hyundai is ranked 8th.

The Trailblazer’s standard 1.2 turbo 3-cylinder produces 16 more horsepower (137 vs. 121) and 49 lbs.-ft. more torque (162 vs. 113) than the Venue’s 1.6 DOHC 4-cylinder. The Trailblazer’s optional 1.3 turbo 3-cylinder produces 34 more horsepower (155 vs. 121) and 61 lbs.-ft. more torque (174 vs. 113) than the Venue’s 1.6 DOHC 4-cylinder.

As tested in Motor Trend the Chevrolet Trailblazer 1.3 turbo 3-cylinder is faster than the Hyundai Venue:

In heavy traffic or at stoplights the Trailblazer’s engine automatically turns off when the vehicle is stopped, saving fuel and reducing pollution. The engine is automatically restarted when the driver gets ready to move again. (Start/Stop isn’t accounted in present EPA fuel mileage tests.) The Venue doesn’t offer an automatic engine start/stop system.

The Trailblazer has 1.3 gallons more fuel capacity than the Venue (13.2 vs. 11.9 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups.

In its Green Vehicle Guide, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) rates the Chevrolet Trailblazer higher (7 out of 10) than the Hyundai Venue (5). This means the Trailblazer produces up to 8 pounds less smog-producing pollutants than the Venue every 15,000 miles.

For better stopping power the Trailblazer’s brake rotors are larger than those on the Venue:

The Chevrolet Trailblazer has standard four-wheel disc brakes for better stopping power and improved directional control in poor weather. Rear drums are standard on the Venue. Drums can heat up and make stops longer, especially with antilock brakes that work much harder than conventional brakes.

The Trailblazer stops shorter than the Venue:

For better traction, the Trailblazer has larger standard tires than the Venue (215/65R16 vs. 185/65R15). The Trailblazer LS/LT/ACTIV’s tires are larger than the largest tires available on the Venue (225/60R17 vs. 205/55R17).

When inflating the tires, the vehicle’s integrated tire pressure sensors keep track of the pressure as the tires fill and tell the driver when the tires are inflated to the proper pressure. The Venue doesn’t offer vehicle monitored tire inflation.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the Trailblazer’s wheelbase is 4.7 inches longer than on the Venue (103.9 inches vs. 99.2 inches).

The Trailblazer RS 4x4 handles at .80 G’s, while the Venue Denim pulls only .79 G’s of cornering force in a Motor Trend skidpad test.

The Trailblazer RS 4x4 executes Motor Trend’s “Figure Eight” maneuver quicker than the Venue Denim (28.3 seconds @ .57 average G’s vs. 28.7 seconds @ .56 average G’s).

For greater off-road capability the Trailblazer has a 1.3 inches greater minimum ground clearance than the Venue (8 vs. 6.7 inches), allowing the Trailblazer to travel over rougher terrain without being stopped or damaged.

The front grille of the Trailblazer uses electronically controlled shutters to close off airflow and reduce drag when less engine cooling is needed. This helps improve highway fuel economy. The Venue doesn’t offer active grille shutters.

The Trailblazer has .6 inches more front headroom, .2 inches more front hip room, 1.5 inches more front shoulder room, 5.1 inches more rear legroom, 2.2 inches more rear hip room and .1 inches more rear shoulder room than the Venue.

The Trailblazer has a much larger cargo volume with its rear seat up than the Venue with its rear seat up (25.3 vs. 18.7 cubic feet). The Trailblazer has a much larger cargo volume with its rear seat folded than the Venue with its rear seat folded (54.4 vs. 31.9 cubic feet).

To make loading and unloading groceries and cargo easier when your hands are full, the Trailblazer LT/ACTIV/RS’ power liftgate can be opened just by kicking your foot under the back bumper, leaving your hands completely free. The Venue doesn’t offer a power or hands-free opening liftgate.

The Trailblazer has a 1000 lbs. towing capacity. The Venue has no towing capacity.

The Trailblazer’s power parking brake sets with one touch and releases with one touch. The Venue has a lever-type parking brake that has to be strenuously raised to engage properly. It has to be lifted up more and a button depressed to release it.

The Trailblazer’s front and rear power windows all open fully with one touch of the switches and its driver’s window also automatically closes, making it more convenient at drive-up windows and toll booths, or when talking with someone outside the car. The Venue’s standard power window switches have to be held the entire time to close them fully. Only its driver’s window opens automatically.

In case you lock your keys in your vehicle, or don’t have them with you, you can let yourself in using the Trailblazer’s available exterior PIN entry system. The Venue doesn’t offer an exterior PIN entry system, and its extra cost Blue Link can’t unlock the doors if the vehicle doesn’t have cell phone reception or the driver can’t contact the service.

The Trailblazer’s power window, power lock, power mirror and cruise control switches are lit from behind, making them plainly visible and easier to operate at night. The Venue’s power mirror switches are unlit, making them difficult to find at night and operate safely.

Consumer Reports rated the Trailblazer’s headlight performance “Very Good,” a higher rating than the Venue’s headlights, which were rated “Fair.”

The Trailblazer offers an optional center folding armrest for the rear passengers. A center armrest helps make rear passengers more comfortable and it can provide a boundary between children. The Venue doesn’t offer a rear seat center armrest.

To keep a safe, consistent following distance, the Trailblazer (except L/LS) offers an optional Adaptive Cruise Control, which alters the speed of the vehicle without driver intervention. This allows the driver to use cruise control more safely without constantly having to disengage it when approaching slower traffic. The Venue doesn’t offer an adaptive cruise control.

To quickly and conveniently keep personal devices charged without cables tangling and wearing out, the Chevrolet Trailblazer ACTIV/RS offers an optional wireless phone charging system (Qi) in the center console. The Venue doesn’t offer wireless personal charging.

The Trailblazer LT/ACTIV/RS offers an optional 115-volt a/c outlet on the center console, allowing you to recharge a laptop or run small household appliances without special adapters that can break or get misplaced. The Venue doesn’t offer a house-current electrical outlet.
