Compare the2021 Cadillac XT5VS 2020 Lincoln Corsair

The XT5 Premium Luxury/Sport’s optional pre-crash front seatbelts will tighten automatically in the event the vehicle detects an impending crash, improving protection against injury significantly. The Corsair doesn’t offer pre-crash pretensioners.

For enhanced safety, the front shoulder belts of the Cadillac XT5 are height-adjustable, and the rear seat shoulder belts have child comfort guides to move the belt to properly fit children. A better fit can prevent injuries and the increased comfort also encourages children to buckle up. The Lincoln Corsair has only front height-adjustable seat belts.

In the past twenty years hundreds of infants and young children have died after being left in vehicles, usually by accident. When turning the vehicle off, drivers of the XT5 are reminded to check the back seat if they opened the rear door before starting out. The Corsair doesn’t offer a back seat reminder.

A passive infrared night vision system optional on the XT5 Premium Luxury/Sport helps the driver to more easily detect people, animals or other objects in front of the vehicle at night. Using an infrared camera to detect heat, the system then displays the image on a monitor in the dashboard. The Corsair doesn’t offer a night vision system.

Both the XT5 and the Corsair have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front wheel drive, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, rearview cameras, available all wheel drive, blind spot warning systems, around view monitors and rear cross-path warning.

The XT5’s corrosion warranty is 1 year longer than the Corsair’s (6 vs. 5 years).

There are over 10 percent more Cadillac dealers than there are Lincoln dealers, which makes it easier should you ever need service under the XT5’s warranty.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2020 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Cadillac vehicles are better in initial quality than Lincoln vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Cadillac 14th in initial quality, above the industry average. With 20 more problems per 100 vehicles, Lincoln is ranked 21st, below the industry average.

The XT5’s optional 3.6 DOHC V6 produces 30 more horsepower (310 vs. 280) than the Corsair’s optional 2.3 turbo 4-cylinder.

As tested in Motor Trend the Cadillac XT5 V6 is faster than the Lincoln Corsair 2.3 turbo 4-cylinder:

An engine control system that can shut down some of the engine’s cylinders helps improve the XT5’s fuel efficiency. The Corsair doesn’t offer a system that can shut down part of the engine.

The XT5 FWD’s standard fuel tank has 3.2 gallons more fuel capacity than the Corsair (19.4 vs. 16.2 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups. The XT5 AWD’s standard fuel tank has 5.5 gallons more fuel capacity than the Corsair (21.7 vs. 16.2 gallons).

A nine-speed automatic is standard on the Cadillac XT5, for better acceleration and lower engine speed on the highway. Only an eight-speed automatic is available for the Corsair.

For better stopping power the XT5’s brake rotors are larger than those on the Corsair:

The XT5’s standard front and rear disc brakes are vented to help dissipate heat for shorter stops with less fading. The rear discs on the Corsair are solid, not vented.

The Cadillac XT5’s wheels have 6 lugs for longer wheel bearing life, less chance of rotor warping and greater strength. The Lincoln Corsair only has 5 wheel lugs per wheel.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the XT5’s wheelbase is 5.8 inches longer than on the Corsair (112.5 inches vs. 106.7 inches).

For better handling and stability, the track (width between the wheels) on the XT5 is 2.2 inches wider in the front and 1.4 inches wider in the rear than on the Corsair.

The XT5 AWD handles at .84 G’s, while the Corsair Reserve AWD pulls only .83 G’s of cornering force in a Car and Driver skidpad test.

The XT5 executes Motor Trend’s “Figure Eight” maneuver quicker than the Corsair AWD (27 seconds @ .65 average G’s vs. 27.7 seconds @ .67 average G’s).

The XT5 has .2 inches more front headroom, .5 inches more front hip room, 1.2 inches more front shoulder room, .4 inches more rear legroom and 4 inches more rear hip room than the Corsair.

The XT5 has a much larger cargo volume with its rear seat up than the Corsair with its rear seat up (30.2 vs. 27.6 cubic feet). The XT5 has a much larger cargo volume with its rear seat folded than the Corsair with its rear seat folded (63 vs. 57.6 cubic feet).

Maximum trailer towing in the Lincoln Corsair is limited to 3000 pounds. The XT5 offers up to a 3500 lbs. towing capacity.

J.D. Power and Associates surveys of service recipients show that Cadillac service is better than Lincoln. J.D. Power ranks Cadillac third in service department satisfaction. With a 15% lower rating, Lincoln is ranked 7th.

The XT5’s instruments include an oil pressure gauge and a temperature gauge - which could save your engine! Often ‘idiot lights’ don’t warn you until damage has been done. The Corsair does not have an oil pressure gauge.

According to The Car Book by Jack Gillis, the XT5 is less expensive to operate than the Corsair because typical repairs cost much less on the XT5 than the Corsair, including $51 less for front brake pads, $9 less for a starter, $223 less for a fuel pump, $112 less for front struts and $408 less for a power steering pump.

The Cadillac XT5 outsold the Lincoln Corsair/MKC by 38% during the 2020 model year.
