The Trailblazer has standard driver and passenger side airbags combined with three-point seat belts, a combination which is 29% more effective in preventing injury and death than seatbelts alone.

To maximize occupant safety, the front seat shoulder belts of the Chevrolet Trailblazer have pretensioners to eliminate dangerous slack in the event of a collision and force limiters to limit the pressure the belts will exert on the passengers.

For enhanced safety, the front seat shoulder belts of the Chevrolet Trailblazer are height-adjustable to accommodate a wide variety of driver and passenger heights. A better fit can prevent injuries and the increased comfort also encourages passengers to buckle up.

The Trailblazer has shoulder harnesses for all passengers. Shoulder harnesses are 10% more effective than lap belts in preventing injuries from collisions. Recent studies indicate that lap belts alone may cause as many or more injuries than they prevent.

The Trailblazer has standard StabiliTrak®, which uses the antilock brake hardware along with powerful software and additional sensors to detect the beginning of a skid. The Trailblazer’s lane departure warning system alerts a temporarily inattentive driver when the vehicle begins to leave its lane and gently nudges the vehicle back towards its lane.

The Trailblazer (except L) offers optional Rear Park Assist to help warn drivers about vehicles, pedestrians or other obstacles behind their vehicle. The Trailblazer also has a standard backup monitor to help drivers see any and all obstacles behind their vehicle.

The Trailblazer (except L)’s optional blind spot warning system uses digital cameras monitored by computer to alert the driver to moving objects in the vehicle’s blind spots where the side view mirrors don’t reveal them.

To help make backing safer, the Trailblazer (except L)’s optional cross-path warning system uses wide-angle radar in the rear bumper to alert the driver to vehicles approaching from the side, helping the driver avoid collisions.

For better protection of the passenger compartment, the Trailblazer uses safety cell construction with a three-dimensional high-strength frame that surrounds the passenger compartment. It provides extra impact protection and a sturdy mounting location for door hardware and side impact beams.

Without a GPS response system if you’re involved in an accident and you’re incapacitated help may not come as quickly.

The Trailblazer comes with a full 3-year/36,000-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire truck.

The Trailblazer comes with free roadside assistance for 5 years 60,000 miles. Chevrolet will send help if you run out of gas, need a jump-start, lock your keys in or need any assistance on the road.

Chevrolet’s powertrain warranty fully covers the Trailblazer for 5 years or 60,000 miles long for any repair needed on the engine, transmission, axles, joints or driveshafts.

The Trailblazer’s corrosion warranty is 6 years and 100,000 miles long.

Reliability

For smoother operation, better efficiency and fewer moving parts, the engines in the Trailblazer have an overhead cam design, rather than an old pushrod design.

The Trailblazer’s standard 1.2 turbo 3-cylinder produces 137 horsepower and 162 lbs.-ft. of torque. The Trailblazer’s optional 1.3 turbo 3-cylinder produces 155 horsepower and 174 lbs.-ft. of torque.

On the EPA test cycle the Trailblazer gets excellent fuel mileage:

In heavy traffic or at stoplights the Trailblazer’s engine automatically turns off when the vehicle is stopped, saving fuel and reducing pollution. The engine is automatically restarted when the driver gets ready to move again. (Start/Stop isn’t accounted in present EPA fuel mileage tests.)

To lower fuel costs and make buying fuel easier, the Chevrolet Trailblazer uses regular unleaded gasoline. Premium can cost 20 to 55 cents more per gallon.

The Trailblazer has a tether attaching its gas cap, to prevent its loss. If a gas cap isn’t tethered it can be left at a gas station if the driver forgets to screw the cap back in.

Environmental Friendliness

In its Green Vehicle Guide, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) rates the Chevrolet Trailblazer at 7 out of 10. This means the Trailblazer produces up to 47 pounds less smog-producing pollutants every 15,000 miles.

Transmission

For more complete vehicle control the Trailblazer offers an optional manually controlled automatic, with the available convenience of an automatic transmission and the complete gear control of a manual transmission without the inconvenience of a clutch. A manually controlled automatic allows the driver to eliminate unwanted shifts and maximize engine braking by down shifting while cornering.

A nine-speed automatic is on the Chevrolet Trailblazer 1.3 turbo 3-cylinder, for better acceleration and lower engine speed on the highway.

The Trailblazer has a standard continuously variable transmission (CVT). With no “steps” between gears, it can keep the engine at the most efficient speed for fuel economy, or keep it at its peak horsepower indefinitely for maximum acceleration.

Brakes and Stopping

The Trailblazer’s standard front disc brakes are vented to help dissipate heat for shorter stops with less fading.

The Chevrolet Trailblazer has standard four-wheel disc brakes for better stopping power and improved directional control in poor weather.

Tires and Wheels

For better traction, the Trailblazer has large 215/65R16 standard tires. The Trailblazer LS/LT/ACTIV’s tires are larger: 225/60R17.

The Trailblazer L’s standard tires provide better handling because they have a low 65 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall. The Trailblazer RS’ tires have a lower 55 series profile.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the Trailblazer L has standard 16-inch wheels. The Trailblazer RS has standard 18-inch wheels.

The Chevrolet Trailblazer’s wheels have 5 lugs for longer wheel bearing life, less chance of rotor warping and greater strength.

The Trailblazer has a standard easy tire fill system. When inflating the tires, the vehicle’s integrated tire pressure sensors keep track of the pressure as the tires fill and tell the driver when the tires are inflated to the proper pressure.

The Trailblazer has a standard space-saver spare tire so you can replace a flat tire and drive to have the flat repaired or replaced. If a vehicle has no spare tire you are forced to repair the tire and if that fails you will have to call roadside assistance and get towed. Even run-flats can fail if they are sufficiently damaged.

Suspension and Handling

For much better steering response and tighter handling the Trailblazer has rack and pinion steering, like Formula racecars, instead of a recirculating-ball type.

The Trailblazer has standard power steering to make quick and controllable low speed maneuvers easy.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the Trailblazer’s wheelbase is 103.9 inches.

For better handling and stability, the track (width between the wheels) on the Trailblazer is 60.9 to 61.2 inches wide in the front and 61.3 inches wide in the rear.

Chassis

The Trailblazer is only 173.5 inches long, making the Trailblazer easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

The Trailblazer is only 71.2 inches wide, making it easier to handle and maneuver in traffic.

The Trailblazer is only 64.8 to 65.7 inches in height, making the Trailblazer much easier to wash and garage and drive (lower center of gravity).

Unibody construction lowers the Trailblazer’s center of gravity significantly without reducing ground clearance. This contributes to better on the road handling and better off-road performance and stability. In addition, unibody construction makes the chassis stiffer, improving handling and reducing squeaks and rattles.

For excellent aerodynamics, the Trailblazer has standard flush composite headlights.

To allow full utilization of available cargo room, the Trailblazer’s cargo door uses gas strut supported hinges that don’t intrude into the cargo area.

The Trailblazer’s standard rear seats fold to accommodate long and bulky cargo.

The Trailblazer’s standard folding rear seats are split to accommodate bulky cargo. A single piece folding rear seat is not as flexible; long cargo and a passenger can’t share the rear seat.

The Trailblazer’s liftgate lifts up in one piece, completely out of the way of loading and unloading, while sheltering the cargo loading area.

To make loading and unloading groceries and cargo easier when your hands are full, the Trailblazer LT/ACTIV/RS’ power cargo door can be opened just by kicking your foot under the back bumper, leaving your hands completely free.

An Oil Life Monitor is standard on the Trailblazer to save the owner time and money by calculating maintenance intervals for oil changes and air filter replacement based on actual driving conditions. This takes the guesswork out of keeping your vehicle in top condition and helps it last longer.

Ergonomics

The Trailblazer LT/ACTIV/RS has a standard remote vehicle starting system, so the vehicle can be started from inside the driver's house. This allows the driver to comfortably warm up the engine before going out to the vehicle. The climate system will also automatically heat or cool the interior, with the optional automatic climate control feature.

The Trailblazer’s standard tilting steering column adjusts to different sized drivers and makes entering and exiting easier.

To help each driver find a more comfortable driving position, the Trailblazer has a telescoping steering wheel. Much better than just a tilt steering wheel or adjustable seat, this allows a short driver to sit further from the steering wheel while maintaining contact with the pedals.

The Trailblazer’s power parking brake sets with one touch and releases with one touch.

The Trailblazer’s standard power windows allow the driver or passenger to lower and raise the windows without leaning over or being distracted.

This eliminates searching for keys before loading groceries, getting in the vehicle in bad weather or making a hurried start to your trip.

The Trailblazer’s power window, power lock, power mirror and cruise control switches are lit from behind, making them plainly visible and easier to operate at night.

The Trailblazer’s variable intermittent wipers have an adjustable delay to allow the driver to choose a setting that best clears the windshield during light rain or mist.

To improve rear visibility by keeping the rear window clear, the Trailblazer has a standard rear wiper.

The Trailblazer has a standard automatic headlight on/off feature. When the ignition is on, the headlights automatically turn on at dusk and off after dawn.

While driving with high beams on, sensitive light sensors standard on the Trailblazer detect other vehicles which could be blinded and automatically switch to low beams.

The Trailblazer LT/ACTIV/RS’ optional rear view mirror has an automatic dimming feature. This mirror can be set to automatically darken quickly when headlights shine on it, keeping following vehicles from blinding or distracting the driver.
