The QX60 Luxe’s optional pre-crash front seatbelts will tighten automatically in the event the vehicle detects an impending crash, improving protection against injury significantly. The Discovery Sport doesn’t offer pre-crash pretensioners.

For enhanced safety, the front, middle and rear seat shoulder belts of the Infiniti QX60 are height-adjustable to accommodate a wide variety of driver and passenger heights. A better fit can prevent injuries and the increased comfort also encourages passengers to buckle up. The Land Rover Discovery Sport doesn’t offer height-adjustable seat belts.

Over 200 people are killed each year when backed over by motor vehicles. The QX60 Luxe offers an optional Backup Collision Intervention that use rear sensors to monitor and automatically apply the brakes to prevent a rear collision. The Discovery Sport doesn’t offer backup collision prevention brakes.

Both the QX60 and the Discovery Sport have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, plastic fuel tanks, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, daytime running lights, rearview cameras, available all-wheel drive, lane departure warning systems and around view monitors.

For its top level performance in all IIHS frontal, side, rear impact and roof-crush tests, and with its optional front crash prevention system, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety grants the QX60 the rating of “Top Pick” for 2017, a rating granted to only 154 vehicles tested by the IIHS. The Discovery Sport has not been tested, yet.

The QX60 comes with a full 4-year/60,000-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire truck and includes 24-hour roadside assistance. The Discovery Sport’s 4-year/50,000-mile basic warranty expires 10,000 miles sooner.

Infiniti’s powertrain warranty covers the QX60 2 years and 20,000 miles longer than Land Rover covers the Discovery Sport. Any repair needed on the engine, transmission, axles, joints or driveshafts is fully covered for 6 years or 70,000 miles. Coverage on the Discovery Sport ends after only 4 years or 50,000 miles.

The QX60’s corrosion warranty is 1 year longer than the Discovery Sport’s (7 vs. 6 years).

There are over 23 percent more Infiniti dealers than there are Land Rover dealers, which makes it easier should you ever need service under the QX60’s warranty.

A reliable vehicle saves its owner time, money and trouble. Nobody wants to be stranded or have to be without a vehicle while it’s being repaired. Consumer Reports rates the QX60’s reliability 52 points higher than the Discovery Sport.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2018 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Infiniti vehicles are better in initial quality than Land Rover vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Infiniti 14th in initial quality, above the industry average. With 68 more problems per 100 vehicles, Land Rover is ranked 31st, below the industry average.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2018 survey of the owners of three-year-old vehicles provides the long-term dependability statistics that show that Infiniti vehicles are more reliable than Land Rover vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Infiniti fourth in reliability, above the industry average. With 84 more problems per 100 vehicles, Land Rover is ranked 30th.

The QX60’s 3.5 DOHC V6 produces 58 more horsepower (295 vs. 237) and 19 lbs.-ft. more torque (270 vs. 251) than the Discovery Sport’s standard 2.0 turbo 4 cyl. The QX60’s 3.5 DOHC V6 produces 9 more horsepower (295 vs. 286) than the Discovery Sport’s optional 2.0 turbo 4 cyl.

To lower fuel costs and make buying fuel easier, the Infiniti QX60 uses regular unleaded gasoline (premium recommended for maximum performance). The Discovery Sport requires premium, which can cost 20 to 55 cents more per gallon.

The QX60 has a gallon more fuel capacity than the Discovery Sport (19.5 vs. 18.5 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups.

The QX60 has a standard continuously variable transmission (CVT). With no “steps” between gears, it can keep the engine at the most efficient speed for fuel economy, or keep it at its peak horsepower indefinitely for maximum acceleration. The Discovery Sport doesn’t offer a CVT.

The QX60’s standard front and rear disc brakes are vented to help dissipate heat for shorter stops with less fading. The rear discs on the Discovery Sport are solid, not vented.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the QX60’s wheelbase is 6.3 inches longer than on the Discovery Sport (114.2 inches vs. 107.9 inches).

For better handling and stability, the track (width between the wheels) on the QX60 is 1.9 inches wider in the front and 1.6 inches wider in the rear than on the Discovery Sport.

The design of the Infiniti QX60 amounts to more than styling. The QX60 has an aerodynamic coefficient of drag of .33 Cd. That is lower than the Discovery Sport (.36) and many sports cars. A more efficient exterior helps keep the interior quieter and helps the QX60 get better fuel mileage.

The QX60 has .6 inches more front headroom, .2 inches more front legroom, 2.9 inches more front shoulder room, 2.4 inches more rear legroom and 4.1 inches more rear shoulder room than the Discovery Sport.

For enhanced passenger comfort on long trips the QX60’s middle and third row seats recline. The Discovery Sport’s third row seats don’t recline.

The QX60’s cargo area provides more volume than the Discovery Sport.

A standard locking glovebox (which can’t be accessed with the valet key) keeps your small valuables safer in the QX60. The Discovery Sport doesn’t offer locking storage for small valuables.

The QX60’s standard towing capacity is much higher than the Discovery Sport’s (5000 vs. 4409 pounds).

J.D. Power and Associates surveys of service recipients show that Infiniti service is better than Land Rover. J.D. Power ranks Infiniti first in service department satisfaction. With a 64% lower rating, Land Rover is ranked 23rd.

To shield the driver and front passenger’s vision over a larger portion of the windshield and side windows, the QX60 has standard extendable sun visors. The Discovery Sport doesn’t offer extendable visors.

The QX60 offers an optional 115-volt a/c outlet on the center console, allowing you to recharge a laptop or run small household appliances without special adapters that can break or get misplaced. The Discovery Sport doesn’t offer a house-current electrical outlet.

The QX60 is available in both front-wheel drive and four-wheel drive configurations. The Discovery Sport doesn’t offer a two-wheel drive configuration.
