To help make backing safer, the Camaro’s optional cross-path warning system uses wide-angle radar in the rear bumper to alert the driver to vehicles approaching from the side, helping the driver avoid collisions. The 911 doesn’t offer a cross-path warning system.

Both the Camaro and the 911 have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver and front passenger knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, daytime running lights, rearview cameras, available collision warning systems, blind spot warning systems and rear parking sensors.

Chevrolet’s powertrain warranty covers the Camaro 1 year and 10,000 miles longer than Porsche covers the 911. Any repair needed on the engine, transmission, axles, joints or driveshafts is fully covered for 5 years or 60,000 miles. Coverage on the 911 ends after only 4 years or 50,000 miles.

There are almost 16 times as many Chevrolet dealers as there are Porsche dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the Camaro’s warranty.

The Camaro ZL1’s 6.2 supercharged V8 produces 97 lbs.-ft. more torque (650 vs. 553) than the 911 GT2 RS’ optional 3.8 turbo 6 cyl.

As tested in Road and Track the Camaro ZL1 6.2 supercharged V8 is faster than the Porsche 911 3.0 turbo 6 cyl. (manual transmissions tested):

On the EPA test cycle the Camaro gets better fuel mileage than the 911 RWD:

An engine control system that can shut down half of the engine’s cylinders helps improve the Camaro V6/V8 Auto’s fuel efficiency. The 911 doesn’t offer a system that can shut down part of the engine.

To lower fuel costs and make buying fuel easier, the Chevrolet Camaro uses regular unleaded gasoline (premium recommended with the 2.0 turbo 4 cyl. engine for maximum performance). The 911 requires premium, which can cost 20 to 55 cents more per gallon.

The Camaro has 2.1 gallons more fuel capacity than the 911 RWD’s standard fuel tank (19 vs. 16.9 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups.

The Camaro has a standard cap-less fueling system. The fuel filler is automatically opened when the fuel nozzle is inserted and automatically closed when it’s removed. This eliminates the need to unscrew and replace the cap and it reduces fuel evaporation, which causes pollution. The 911 doesn’t offer a cap-less fueling system.

A ten-speed automatic is available on the Chevrolet Camaro, for better acceleration and lower engine speed on the highway. Only a seven-speed automatic is available for the 911.

To facilitate fast shifting and allow the driver to focus on the road, the Camaro offers an optional up-shift light to indicate when the engine is approaching redline. The 911 doesn’t offer an up-shift light.

For better traction, the Camaro has larger standard tires than the 911 (245/50R18 vs. 235/40R19). The Camaro ZL1 1LE Coupe’s front tires are larger than the largest tires available on the 911 (F:305/30R19 & R:325/30R19 vs. F:265/35R20 & R:325/30R21).

The Camaro SS 1LE/ZL1’s tires provide better handling because they have a lower 30 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the 911’s optional 35 series front tires.

Changing a flat tire near traffic can be dangerous and inconvenient. The run-flat tires available on the Camaro can be driven up to 50 miles without any air pressure, allowing you to drive to a service station for a repair. The 911 doesn’t offer run-flat tires.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the Camaro’s wheelbase is 14.2 inches longer than on the 911 (110.7 inches vs. 96.5 inches). The Camaro’s wheelbase is 14 inches longer than on the 911 GT3 (110.7 feet vs. 96.7 inches).

For better handling and stability, the average track (width between the wheels) on the Camaro is 2.1 inches wider in the front and 1.6 inches wider in the rear than the average track on the 911.

The Camaro’s front to rear weight distribution is more even (51.9% to 48.1%) than the 911’s (39.3% to 60.7%). This gives the Camaro more stable handling and braking.

The Camaro ZL1 1LE Coupe handles at 1.18 G’s, while the 911 Coupe pulls only 1.00 G’s of cornering force in a Car and Driver skidpad test.

The Camaro SS Coupe executes Motor Trend’s “Figure Eight” maneuver quicker than the 911 Coupe (22.9 seconds @ .91 average G’s vs. 23.5 seconds @ .86 average G’s).

As tested by Car and Driver, the interior of the Camaro RS Coupe is quieter than the 911 GT2 RS:

Because it has more passenger and cargo room, the EPA rates the Camaro Coupe a Compact car, while the 911 Coupe is rated a Minicompact. The EPA rates the Camaro Convertible a Subcompact car, while the 911 Cabriolet is rated a Minicompact.

The Camaro Coupe has 23 cubic feet more passenger volume than the 911 Coupe (93 vs. 70). The Camaro Convertible has 17 cubic feet more passenger volume than the 911 Cabriolet (85 vs. 68).

The Camaro Coupe has .5 inches more front headroom, 4.2 inches more front shoulder room, 4 inches more rear headroom, 4.9 inches more rear legroom and 2.1 inches more rear shoulder room than the 911 Coupe.

The Camaro Convertible has .4 inches more front headroom, 4.2 inches more front shoulder room and 4 inches more rear headroom than the 911 Cabriolet.

The Camaro Coupe has a much larger trunk than the 911 Coupe with its rear seat up (9.1 vs. 5.1 cubic feet).

The Camaro Convertible has a much larger trunk with its top down than the 911 Cabriolet (7.3 vs. 5.1 cubic feet).

The Camaro Auto has a standard remote vehicle starting system, so the vehicle can be started from inside the driver's house. This allows the driver to comfortably warm up the engine before going out to the vehicle. The climate system will also automatically heat or cool the interior. The 911 doesn’t offer a remote starting system.

The Camaro offers an optional heads-up display that projects speed and other key instrumentation readouts in front of the driver’s line of sight, allowing drivers to view information without diverting their eyes from the road. The 911 doesn’t offer a heads-up display.

Keyless Access standard on the Camaro allows you to unlock the driver’s door, trunk and start the engine all without removing a key from pocket or purse. This eliminates searching for keys before loading groceries, getting in the vehicle in bad weather or making a hurried start to your trip. The Porsche 911’s available Porsche Entry and Drive doesn’t unlock the trunk.

To shield the driver and front passenger’s vision over a larger portion of the windshield and side windows, the Camaro has standard extendable sun visors. The 911 doesn’t offer extendable visors.

Road and Track performed a comparison test in its December 2017 issue and the Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 1LE Coupe won out over the Porsche 911 GT3.

The Camaro was chosen as one of Car and Driver’s “Top Ten” for 3 of the last 3 years. The 911 has never been a Car and Driver “Top Ten” pick.

Motor Trend selected the Camaro as their 2016 Car of the Year. The 911 has never been chosen.

The Camaro was selected by Automobile Magazine as their 2010 Car of the Year. The 911 Carrera GTS has never been chosen.

The Chevrolet Camaro outsold the Porsche 911 by almost eight to one during 2017.
