Compare the2019 Infiniti QX60VS 2019 Volvo XC90

Over 200 people are killed each year when backed over by motor vehicles. The QX60 Luxe offers an optional Backup Collision Intervention that uses rear sensors to monitor and automatically apply the brakes to prevent a rear collision. The XC90 doesn’t offer backup collision prevention brakes.

Both the QX60 and the XC90 have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, front-wheel drive, height adjustable front shoulder belts, plastic fuel tanks, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning, available all-wheel drive, lane departure warning systems and around view monitors.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration does side impact tests on new vehicles. In this test, which crashes the vehicle into a flat barrier at 38.5 MPH, results indicate that the Infiniti QX60 is safer than the Volvo XC90:

The QX60 comes with a full 4-year/60,000-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire truck and includes 24-hour roadside assistance. The XC90’s 4-year/50,000-mile basic warranty expires 10,000 miles sooner.

Infiniti’s powertrain warranty covers the QX60 2 years and 20,000 miles longer than Volvo covers the XC90. Any repair needed on the engine, transmission, axles, joints or driveshafts is fully covered for 6 years or 70,000 miles. Coverage on the XC90 ends after only 4 years or 50,000 miles.

A reliable vehicle saves its owner time, money and trouble. Nobody wants to be stranded or have to be without a vehicle while it’s being repaired. Consumer Reports rates the QX60’s reliability 27 points higher than the XC90.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2018 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Infiniti vehicles are better in initial quality than Volvo vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Infiniti 14th in initial quality, above the industry average. With 30 more problems per 100 vehicles, Volvo is ranked 29th, below the industry average.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2018 survey of the owners of three-year-old vehicles provides the long-term dependability statistics that show that Infiniti vehicles are more reliable than Volvo vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Infiniti fourth in reliability, above the industry average. With 42 more problems per 100 vehicles, Volvo is ranked 22nd.

From surveys of all its subscribers, Consumer Reports’ April 2018 Auto Issue reports that Infiniti vehicles are more reliable than Volvo vehicles. Consumer Reports ranks Infiniti 16 places higher in reliability than Volvo.

The QX60’s 3.5 DOHC V6 produces 45 more horsepower (295 vs. 250) and 12 lbs.-ft. more torque (270 vs. 258) than the XC90 T5’s standard 2.0 turbo 4 cyl.

To lower fuel costs and make buying fuel easier, the Infiniti QX60 uses regular unleaded gasoline (premium recommended for maximum performance). The XC90 T5 requires premium, which can cost 20 to 55 cents more per gallon.

The QX60 has 6.3 gallons more fuel capacity than the XC90 Hybrid’s standard fuel tank (19.5 vs. 13.2 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups.

The QX60 has a standard continuously variable transmission (CVT). With no “steps” between gears, it can keep the engine at the most efficient speed for fuel economy, or keep it at its peak horsepower indefinitely for maximum acceleration. The XC90 doesn’t offer a CVT.

The QX60 stops shorter than the XC90:

The front and rear suspension of the QX60 uses coil springs for better ride, handling and control than the XC90, which uses transverse leafs springs in the rear. Coil springs compress more progressively and offer more suspension travel for a smoother ride with less bottoming out.

The Infiniti QX60 may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 350 to 500 pounds less than the Volvo XC90.

The QX60 has 1.8 inches more front headroom, 1.3 inches more front legroom, .8 inches more front hip room, 2.6 inches more front shoulder room, 4.7 inches more rear legroom, 3.9 inches more rear shoulder room, .2 inches more third row headroom and 10.2 inches more third row shoulder room than the XC90.

For enhanced passenger comfort on long trips the QX60’s middle and third row seats recline. The XC90’s third row seats don’t recline.

The QX60’s cargo area provides more volume than the XC90.

The QX60’s standard towing capacity is much higher than the XC90’s (5000 vs. 4000 pounds).

A maintenance reminder system is standard on the QX60 to save the owner time and money by calculating maintenance intervals for oil changes and tire rotation based on odometer mileage. This takes the guesswork out of keeping your vehicle in top condition and helps it last longer. Volvo doesn’t offer a maintenance reminder on the XC90.

J.D. Power and Associates surveys of service recipients show that Infiniti service is better than Volvo. J.D. Power ranks Infiniti first in service department satisfaction. With a 34% lower rating, Volvo is ranked 14th.

The QX60’s front and rear power windows all open or close fully with one touch of the switches, making it more convenient at drive-up windows and toll booths, or when talking with someone outside the car. The XC90’s rear power window switches have to be held the entire time to open or close them fully.

The QX60 has a standard locking fuel door with a remote release located convenient to the driver. A locking fuel door helps prevent vandalism, such as sugar in the tank and fuel theft. The XC90 doesn’t offer a locking fuel door.

To shield the driver and front passenger’s vision over a larger portion of the windshield and side windows, the QX60 has standard extendable sun visors. The XC90 doesn’t offer extendable visors.

Insurance will cost less for the QX60 owner. The Car Book by Jack Gillis rates the QX60 with a number “8” insurance rate while the XC90 is rated higher at a number “10” rate.

According to The Car Book by Jack Gillis, the QX60 is less expensive to operate than the XC90 because typical repairs cost much less on the QX60 than the XC90, including $710 less for a water pump, $69 less for front brake pads, $133 less for a starter, $9 less for fuel injection and $221 less for a fuel pump.

The Infiniti QX60 outsold the Volvo XC90 by 30% during 2017.
