The QX60 Luxe’s optional pre-crash front seatbelts will tighten automatically in the event the vehicle detects an impending crash, improving protection against injury significantly. The Sorento doesn’t offer pre-crash pretensioners.

For enhanced safety, the front, middle and rear seat shoulder belts of the Infiniti QX60 are height-adjustable to accommodate a wide variety of driver and passenger heights. A better fit can prevent injuries and the increased comfort also encourages passengers to buckle up. The Kia Sorento doesn’t offer height-adjustable middle or rear seat belts.

Over 200 people are killed each year when backed over by motor vehicles. The QX60 Luxe offers an optional Backup Collision Intervention that uses rear sensors to monitor and automatically apply the brakes to prevent a rear collision. The Sorento doesn’t offer backup collision prevention brakes.

The QX60 offers optional InTouch Services™, which uses a global positioning satellite (GPS) receiver and a cellular system to get turn-by-turn driving directions, remotely unlock your doors if you lock your keys in, help track down your vehicle if it’s stolen or send emergency personnel to the scene if any airbags deploy. The Sorento doesn’t offer a GPS response system, only a navigation computer with no live response for emergencies, so if you’re involved in an accident and you’re incapacitated help may not come as quickly.

Both the QX60 and the Sorento have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, front-wheel drive, height adjustable front shoulder belts, plastic fuel tanks, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, rearview cameras, available all-wheel drive, lane departure warning systems and around view monitors.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration does 35 MPH front crash tests on new vehicles. In this test, results indicate that the Infiniti QX60 is safer than the Kia Sorento:

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration does side impact tests on new vehicles. In this test, which crashes the vehicle into a flat barrier at 38.5 MPH and into a post at 20 MPH, results indicate that the Infiniti QX60 is safer than the Kia Sorento:

Warranty

The QX60’s corrosion warranty is 2 years and unlimited miles longer than the Sorento’s (7/unlimited vs. 5/100,000).

Reliability

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2018 survey of the owners of three-year-old vehicles provides the long-term dependability statistics that show that Infiniti vehicles are more reliable than Kia vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Infiniti fourth in reliability, above the industry average. With 2 more problems per 100 vehicles, Kia is ranked fifth.

Engine

The QX60’s 3.5 DOHC V6 produces 110 more horsepower (295 vs. 185) and 92 lbs.-ft. more torque (270 vs. 178) than the Sorento’s standard 2.4 DOHC 4 cyl. The QX60’s 3.5 DOHC V6 produces 5 more horsepower (295 vs. 290) and 18 lbs.-ft. more torque (270 vs. 252) than the Sorento’s optional 3.3 DOHC V6.

Fuel Economy and Range

On the EPA test cycle the QX60 gets better fuel mileage than the Sorento:

Transmission

The QX60 has a standard continuously variable transmission (CVT). With no “steps” between gears, it can keep the engine at the most efficient speed for fuel economy, or keep it at its peak horsepower indefinitely for maximum acceleration. The Sorento doesn’t offer a CVT.

Brakes and Stopping

The QX60’s standard front and rear disc brakes are vented to help dissipate heat for shorter stops with less fading. The rear discs on the Sorento are solid, not vented.

Tires and Wheels

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the QX60 has standard 18-inch wheels. Smaller 17-inch wheels are standard on the Sorento L/LX. The QX60 Luxe’s optional 20-inch wheels are larger than the 19-inch wheels on the Sorento SX/SXL.

Suspension and Handling

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the QX60’s wheelbase is 4.8 inches longer than on the Sorento (114.2 inches vs. 109.4 inches).

For better handling and stability, the track (width between the wheels) on the QX60 is 1.5 inches wider in the front and 1.1 inches wider in the rear than the average track on the Sorento.

Passenger Space

The QX60 has 1.2 inches more front headroom, .1 inches more front hip room, 1.2 inches more front shoulder room, 2.3 inches more rear legroom, 2.4 inches more rear shoulder room, .2 inches more third row headroom, .6 inches more third row hip room and 4.3 inches more third row shoulder room than the Sorento.

For enhanced passenger comfort on long trips the QX60’s middle and third row seats recline. The Sorento’s third row seats don’t recline.

Cargo Capacity

The QX60’s cargo area provides more volume than the Sorento.

The QX60 has a standard third row seat which folds flat into the floor. This completely clears a very large cargo area quickly. The Sorento doesn’t offer seats that fold into the floor.

Towing

The QX60’s standard towing capacity is much higher than the Sorento’s (5000 vs. 2000 pounds).

Servicing Ease

J.D. Power and Associates surveys of service recipients show that Infiniti service is better than Kia. J.D. Power ranks Infiniti first in service department satisfaction. With a 50% lower rating, Kia is ranked 18th.

Ergonomics

The QX60’s front and rear power windows all open or close fully with one touch of the switches, making it more convenient at drive-up windows and toll booths, or when talking with someone outside the car. The Sorento’s standard passenger windows don’t open or close automatically.

If the windows are left open on the QX60 the driver can close them all at the outside door handle. On a hot day the driver can lower the windows at the outside door handle or from a distance using the keyless remote. The driver of the Sorento can only operate the windows from inside the vehicle, with the ignition on.

The QX60’s standard speed-sensitive wipers speed up when the vehicle does, so that the driver doesn’t have to continually adjust the speed of the wipers. The Sorento’s standard manually variable intermittent wipers have to be constantly adjusted.

Consumer Reports rated the QX60’s headlight performance “Very Good,” a higher rating than the Sorento’s headlights, which were rated “Good.”

The QX60’s standard side window demisters help clear frost or condensation from the side windows in the winter. The Sorento doesn’t even offer side window demisters, so the driver may have to wipe the windows from the outside to gain side vision.

The QX60 Luxe offers optional automatic dimming rear and side view mirrors which automatically darken quickly when headlights shine on them, keeping following vehicles from blinding or distracting the driver. The Sorento offers an automatic rear view mirror, but its side mirrors don’t dim.

The QX60 has a standard dual zone air conditioning allows the driver and front passenger to choose two completely different temperatures so people with different temperature preferences won’t have to compromise. This makes both the driver and front passenger as comfortable as possible. Dual zone air conditioning costs extra on the Sorento and isn’t available on the Sorento L.

The QX60’s standard automatic temperature control maintains the temperature you set, automatically controlling fan speed, vents and temperature to maintain a consistent, comfortable environment. The Sorento L doesn’t offer automatic air conditioning.

The QX60’s available GPS navigation system has a real-time traffic update feature that plots alternative routes to automatically bypass traffic problems. (Service not available in all areas.) The Sorento’s navigation system doesn’t offer real-time traffic updates.

Economic Advantages

According to The Car Book by Jack Gillis, the QX60 is less expensive to operate than the Sorento because typical repairs cost less on the QX60 than the Sorento, including $34 less for a water pump and $3 less for a fuel pump.
