Compare the2018 Infiniti Q50VS 2018 Jaguar XE

The Q50 (except )’s optional pre-crash front seatbelts will tighten automatically in the event the vehicle detects an impending crash, improving protection against injury significantly. The XE doesn’t offer pre-crash pretensioners.

For enhanced safety, the front seat shoulder belts of the Infiniti Q50 are height-adjustable to accommodate a wide variety of driver and passenger heights. A better fit can prevent injuries and the increased comfort also encourages passengers to buckle up. The Jaguar XE doesn’t offer height-adjustable seat belts.

Over 200 people are killed each year when backed over by motor vehicles. The Q50 (except Pure) offers optional Back-up Collision Intervention which use rear sensors to monitor and automatically apply the brakes to prevent a rear collision. The XE doesn’t offer backup collision prevention brakes.

Both the Q50 and the XE have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, daytime running lights, available all-wheel drive, crash mitigating brakes, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, around view monitors and rear cross-path warning.

Infiniti’s powertrain warranty covers the Q50 1 year and 10,000 miles longer than Jaguar covers the XE. Any repair needed on the engine, transmission, axles, joints or driveshafts is fully covered for 6 years or 70,000 miles. Coverage on the XE ends after only 5 years or 60,000 miles.

The Q50’s corrosion warranty is 1 year longer than the XE’s (7 vs. 6 years).

There are over 30 percent more Infiniti dealers than there are Jaguar dealers, which makes it easier should you ever need service under the Q50’s warranty.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2017 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Infiniti vehicles are better in initial quality than Jaguar vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Infiniti 23rd in initial quality. With 41 more problems per 100 vehicles, Jaguar is ranked 31st.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2018 survey of the owners of three-year-old vehicles provides the long-term dependability statistics that show that Infiniti vehicles are more reliable than Jaguar vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Infiniti fourth in reliability, above the industry average. With 39 more problems per 100 vehicles, Jaguar is ranked 20th.

The Q50 has more powerful engines than the XE:

As tested in Consumer Reports the Q50 3.0t 3.0 turbo V6 is faster than the XE 25t 2.0 turbo 4 cyl.:

The Q50 Hybrid’s standard fuel tank has 3 gallons more fuel capacity than the XE Diesel’s standard fuel tank (17.8 vs. 14.8 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups. The Q50’s standard fuel tank has 3.4 gallons more fuel capacity than the XE 25t/35t/S’ standard fuel tank (20 vs. 16.6 gallons).

For better stopping power the Q50’s brake rotors are larger than those on the XE:

The Q50’s standard front and rear disc brakes are vented to help dissipate heat for shorter stops with less fading. The rear discs standard on the XE are solid, not vented.

The Q50 stops much shorter than the XE:

For better traction, the Q50 Red Sport 400’s front tires are larger than the largest tires available on the XE (F:245/40R19 & R:265/35R19 vs. F:235/35R20 & R:265/30R20).

Changing a flat tire near traffic can be dangerous and inconvenient. The run-flat tires available on the Q50 can be driven up to 50 miles without any air pressure, allowing you to drive to a service station for a repair. The XE doesn’t offer run-flat tires.

The Q50 handles at .95 G’s, while the XE R-Sport AWD pulls only .88 G’s of cornering force in a Car and Driver skidpad test.

The Q50 executes Motor Trend’s “Figure Eight” maneuver 1.7 seconds quicker than the XE AWD (25.5 seconds @ .76 average G’s vs. 27.2 seconds @ .62 average G’s).

The Q50 is 5.6 inches narrower than the XE, making the Q50 easier to handle and maneuver in traffic.

The design of the Infiniti Q50 amounts to more than styling. The Q50 offers aerodynamic coefficients of drag from .26 to .29 Cd (depending on bodystyle and options). That is lower than the XE (.28 to .3) and many sports cars. A more efficient exterior helps keep the interior quieter and helps the Q50 get better fuel mileage.

The Q50 Hybrid uses computer-generated active noise cancellation to help remove annoying noise and vibration from the passenger compartment, especially at low frequencies. The XE doesn’t offer active noise cancellation.

Because it has more passenger and cargo room, the Q50 is rated a Mid-size car by the EPA, while the XE is rated a Compact.

The Q50 has 10.5 cubic feet more passenger volume than the XE (101.5 vs. 91).

The Q50 has 3.2 inches more front headroom, 3 inches more front legroom, .5 inches more rear headroom, .1 inches more rear legroom and 1.4 inches more rear shoulder room than the XE.

J.D. Power and Associates surveys of service recipients show that Infiniti service is better than Jaguar. J.D. Power ranks Infiniti first in service department satisfaction. With a 35% lower rating, Jaguar is ranked 15th.

The Q50 has a standard locking fuel door with a remote release located convenient to the driver. A locking fuel door helps prevent vandalism, such as sugar in the tank and fuel theft. The XE doesn’t offer a locking fuel door.

Consumer Reports rated the Q50’s headlight performance “Good,” a higher rating than the XE’s headlights, which were rated “Fair.”

To shield the driver and front passenger’s vision over a larger portion of the windshield and side windows, the Q50 has standard extendable sun visors. The XE doesn’t offer extendable visors.

The Infiniti Q50 outsold the Jaguar XE by over four to one during 2017.
