The Q50 (except )’s optional pre-crash front seatbelts will tighten automatically in the event the vehicle detects an impending crash, improving protection against injury significantly. The Giulia doesn’t offer pre-crash pretensioners.

For enhanced safety, the front seat shoulder belts of the Infiniti Q50 are height-adjustable to accommodate a wide variety of driver and passenger heights. A better fit can prevent injuries and the increased comfort also encourages passengers to buckle up. The Alfa Romeo Giulia doesn’t offer height-adjustable seat belts.

Over 200 people are killed each year when backed over by motor vehicles. The Q50 (except Pure) offers optional Back-up Collision Intervention which use rear sensors to monitor and automatically apply the brakes to prevent a rear collision. The Giulia doesn’t offer backup collision prevention brakes.

The Q50 (except Pure) offers an optional Around View® Monitor to allow the driver to see objects all around the vehicle on a screen. The Giulia only offers a rear monitor and front and rear parking sensors that beep or flash a light. That doesn’t help with obstacles to the sides.

The Q50 offers optional Infiniti Connection, which uses a global positioning satellite (GPS) receiver and a cellular system to get turn-by-turn driving directions, remotely unlock your doors if you lock your keys in, help track down your vehicle if it’s stolen or send emergency personnel to the scene if any airbags deploy. The Giulia doesn’t offer a GPS response system, only a navigation computer with no live response for emergencies, so if you’re involved in an accident and you’re incapacitated help may not come as quickly.

Both the Q50 and the Giulia have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, daytime running lights, rearview cameras, available all-wheel drive, crash mitigating brakes, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems and rear cross-path warning.

The Q50 comes with a full 4-year/60,000-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire car and includes 24-hour roadside assistance. The Giulia’s 4-year/50,000-mile basic warranty expires 10,000 miles sooner.

Infiniti’s powertrain warranty covers the Q50 2 years and 20,000 miles longer than Alfa Romeo covers the Giulia. Any repair needed on the engine, transmission, axles, joints or driveshafts is fully covered for 6 years or 70,000 miles. Coverage on the Giulia ends after only 4 years or 50,000 miles.

The Q50’s corrosion warranty is 3 years longer than the Giulia’s (7 vs. 4 years).

There are over 36 percent more Infiniti dealers than there are Alfa Romeo dealers, which makes it easier should you ever need service under the Q50’s warranty.

A reliable vehicle saves its owner time, money and trouble. Nobody wants to be stranded or have to be without a vehicle while it’s being repaired. Consumer Reports rates the Q50’s reliability 25 points higher than the Giulia.

The Q50 3.0t’s standard 3.0 turbo V6 produces 20 more horsepower (300 vs. 280) than the Giulia’s 2.0 turbo 4 cyl. The Q50 Hybrid’s standard 3.5 DOHC V6 hybrid produces 80 more horsepower (360 vs. 280) than the Giulia’s 2.0 turbo 4 cyl. The Q50 Red Sport 400’s standard 3.0 turbo V6 produces 120 more horsepower (400 vs. 280) and 44 lbs.-ft. more torque (350 vs. 306) than the Giulia’s 2.0 turbo 4 cyl.

Regenerative brakes improve the Q50 Hybrid’s fuel efficiency by converting inertia back into energy instead of wasting it. The Giulia doesn’t offer a regenerative braking system.

The Q50 Hybrid’s standard fuel tank has 2.5 gallons more fuel capacity than the Giulia (17.8 vs. 15.3 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups. The Q50’s standard fuel tank has 4.7 gallons more fuel capacity than the Giulia (20 vs. 15.3 gallons).

For better stopping power the Q50 Sport’s front brake rotors are larger than those on the Giulia:

The Q50’s standard front and rear disc brakes are vented to help dissipate heat for shorter stops with less fading. The rear discs on the Giulia are solid, not vented.

For better traction, the Q50 Red Sport 400’s tires are larger than the largest tires available on the Giulia (F:245/40R19 & R:265/35R19 vs. 225/50R17).

The Q50 Red Sport 400’s 265/35R19 rear tires provide better handling because they have a lower 35 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the Giulia Ti’s optional 40 series tires.

The Q50’s optional drift compensation steering can automatically compensate for road conditions which would cause the vehicle to drift from side to side, helping the driver to keep the vehicle straight more easily. The Giulia doesn’t offer drift compensation steering.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the Q50’s wheelbase is 1.2 inches longer than on the Giulia (112.2 inches vs. 111 inches).

The Q50 handles at .95 G’s, while the Giulia Ti Q4 pulls only .79 G’s of cornering force in a Car and Driver skidpad test.

The Q50 executes Motor Trend’s “Figure Eight” maneuver 1.6 seconds quicker than the Giulia Ti (25.5 seconds @ .76 average G’s vs. 27.1 seconds @ .66 average G’s).

For better maneuverability, the Q50’s turning circle is .8 feet tighter than the Giulia’s (36.7 feet vs. 37.5 feet). The Q50 AWD’s turning circle is .1 feet tighter than the Giulia’s (37.4 feet vs. 37.5 feet).

The Q50 Hybrid uses computer-generated active noise cancellation to help remove annoying noise and vibration from the passenger compartment, especially at low frequencies. The Giulia doesn’t offer active noise cancellation.

The Q50 has 6.1 cubic feet more passenger volume than the Giulia (101.5 vs. 95.4).

The Q50 has 1.6 inches more front headroom, 2.1 inches more front legroom, .6 inches more front shoulder room and 2.5 inches more rear shoulder room than the Giulia.

The Q50 has a much larger trunk than the Giulia (13.2 vs. 12 cubic feet).

With its sedan body style, valet key, locking rear seatbacks and remote trunk release lockout, the Q50 offers cargo security. The Giulia’s non-lockable remote release defeats cargo security.

A standard locking glovebox (which can’t be accessed with the valet key) keeps your small valuables safer in the Q50. The Giulia doesn’t offer locking storage for small valuables.

If the windows are left open on the Q50 the driver can close them all at the outside door handle. On a hot day the driver can lower the windows at the outside door handle or from a distance using the keyless remote. The driver of the Giulia can only operate the windows from inside the vehicle, with the ignition on.

The Infiniti Intelligent Key standard on the Q50 allows you to unlock the driver’s door, trunk and start the engine all without removing a key from pocket or purse. This eliminates searching for keys before loading groceries, getting in the vehicle in bad weather or making a hurried start to your trip. The Alfa Romeo Giulia’s Keyless-Go doesn’t unlock the trunk.

When the Q50 with available tilt-down mirrors is put in reverse, both rearview mirrors tilt from their original position. This gives the driver a better view of the curb during parallel parking maneuvers. Shifting out of reverse puts the mirrors into their original positions. The Giulia’s mirrors don’t automatically adjust for backing.

The Q50 has a standard center folding armrest for the rear passengers. A center armrest helps make rear passengers more comfortable. The Giulia doesn’t offer a rear seat center armrest.

The Infiniti Q50 outsold the Alfa Romeo Giulia by almost five to one during 2017.
